The search was approved by a Federal Judge (who is probably going to need armed security now). The FBI had to prove there was more likely than not something criminal going on at said said property. I know, hard to believe it- Cult 45.

So why a search instead of getting a subpoena if they were "just" looking for classified documents that it's been speculated on for months Donnie illegally took with him when he left the White House? Then you obviously want a Banana Republic. Several former US prosecuting attorneys have said Trump should already be indicted based on what's already been made public.
I have no doubts that green lighting the FBI search at Mar-a-Lago went all the way up to Garland to approve it. And if he did, he's damn certain based on information he had in hand from the FBI it was worth it to go after said information.
