What's Your 2023 Wish List?

The Browns Board

  • Well, we play Buffalo next week so we'll be 3-7 and probably 3-8 after Brady shreds us to pieces. So what is your wish list for the 2023 offseason?

    My wish list:

    * Fire Joe Woods - Stefanski has to nut-up and fire his long-time friend from Minnesota. This defensive is absolutely pathetic and just embarassing.

    * Linebackers - we might have the worst linebacking core in the NFL. There isn't one starter level linebacker on the team. For the last 30 years I couldn't even tell you the names of our starting linebackers most years. D'Qwell Jackson and that's about it.

    * Defensive line - Garrett is great but they just double team him all day. Clowney is washed up and has done squat this year, he's not worth another pay day. We need a second legit pass rusher.

    * Wide receiver - We need a #2 WR. David Bell was a complete waste of a third round pick - he runs a 4.65 40-time - why draft a WR who isn't fast in today's NFL? Keep Amari Cooper, he's been better than any WR we've had the last few decades. DPJ is an okay #3 but we need a #2.

    Other items:

Not a "wish" of mine - but we're going to have to let Hunt walk since he'll be an UFA and we can't pay two RB's. Chubb is a future Hall of Famer at the pace he is going and by far the best player on the team. D'Ernest Johnson is an UFA - hopefully we re-sign him if we can get him relatively cheap as Chubb's backup.

Njoku - the talent is real, he took a step forward like we all hoped, but he's injured again - do we give him a long term contract after franchise tagging him this year? I'm not sure, but I don't think there are many better options out there at TE - maybe a four year deal with only two years guaranteed or something like that.

  • I think they devalue linebackers with the analytics but maybe this year will wake them up. We need to address the middle of the line. We need some DTs that can play. What we got in there now is replacement level players. Another pass rusher would be on the list too. And get rid of woods, I agree 100%, he doesn't adjust his game plan when its not working, which is alot. I think we need to be more creative on defense to create pressure when rushing 4 isn't working.

I can't give you an exact date on the nightmare ending. But I can tell you the nightmare won't end in our lifetime on this planet.

Sure is crazy. It's nearly impossible in a parity driven league to suck so often.

The date this nightmare ends is when the Haslam’s don’t own the team

    Otherwise it will continue on

  • If you take into consideration what the team gave up to get Watson and the alarming fact that this franchise has taken some major steps backwards, when do they start thinking about maybe moving some players to get some of that draft capital back?

Seriously, think about it. The Steelers suck now but they won't be on the bottom for long, they are a well run organization and have been for years, I would say that 2 years at the most and they will be back in it again. Cinci has a young team and a franchise QB, Baltimore is loaded with talent, so that leaves us. Watson better be the next Tom Brady 2.0 or we are in danger of being in the basement for the next decade plus.

Upgrade the DT position and fire Woods is an ideal start; and let's add some gravy with another edge rusher.

We need a MIKE.  As pointed out every other play we are weak in the middle but it extends beyond the interior Dlineman.

And the new defensive coordinator needs to figure out if he can use Johnson and fix Delpit.   I am cautiously optimistic that the secondary and some of the components can be fixed although that was Woods supposed strength.

And on offense Kevin needs to watch some Siranni and Jalen Hurts this offseason for some ideas with Watson.  So his play caller and Kevin (see what I did there) can deploy the best offensive attack next season.

    We are toast in 2022.

  • A time machine to go back to the pre-2022 trade that gave up three first round draft picks etc., and stop it from happening.

    and...

    never mind.

    dammit.

Very true; but we do need to keep in mind we don't have a 1st round draft pick when we're patching holes.  It all starts up front.  If you're DTs aren't getting dominated - then we can keep bodies off the Backers.  One of my favorite ILBs/MIKE was Mike Johnson who was undersized at 6'1" 220 lbs.  He played in 3-4 as well as a 4-3 (as the MIKE) and we ALWAYS had the IDL that kept blockers off him.  On top of that, he had great 1st step instinct. He made 2 Pro Bowls for us and I think he was an All Pro in 89.

Anyway, for this conversation and next draft - I hope they make IDL a priority.  Maybe free agency can help us at LBer and IDL.

I like a lot of your points above.

  • Wish list you say?

Jimmy Haslam faces bankruptcy and sells the team to a Consortium of Cleveland people including possibly even brain damaged Bernie. The league finds the Houston Texans guilty of fraud and gives us back the three number one picks while invalidating DeShaun Watson's contract. And one of my songs winning an Oscar, and Jennifer Aniston as my date to the awards ceremony.

  • No doubt Woods needs to go.  My darkhorse candidate for DC is Jim Leonhard.  I am hoping he isn't named the full time head coach at Wisconsin before we can talk to him.

I would look to trade Hospital Ward.  If we could get a 2nd rounder, I would take it.  We have the corners to do that.

When I look at our defensive roster, I see a player make-up that would be better suited to a 3-4, so I hope we make that switch.  We would need to add a NT, who you can usually find both in FA and the draft.  I think a guy like Phillips would benefit with a switch to the outside.  With his speed he could be a pretty good standup rusher off the edge.

I hope we lock up Pocic and don't try to go back to Harris.  I am not willing to go back to that.   Pocic is excellent in the pivot.  Berry needs to swallow his pride and keep the guy over one of his draft choices.

We need to just cut Anthony Schwantz.  Schwantz is a waste of time.

Interesting.  Phillip's, who has an average 40 time, average 10 & 20 yard split, below average wingspan, a poor first step, average play strength and is, at best, a poor tackler - you would have play as an on- ball 2pt edge backer...?

Would you be more of a 1 gap scheme like Wade Phillip's or play more 2 gap calls like Belichick?

What about Myles? His strength is a 3pt edge, are you going to play him as a 2pt backer or run more of those under looks with a LEO like Seattle did?

How do you address Togiai and Elliot as personnel and also their positions?

I'm really curious how you arrived at this conclusion and would like to know more.
