Lots of big decisions on the docket this month.

Government influence on social media - The case was brought up by Republican lawmakers who felt Big Tech had cracked down on opinions that did not go along with prevailing theory during COVID. SCOTUS declined to rule on this case over procedural grounds. I'm pretty disappointed in the decision because it's probably going to be another 10-15 years before a case like this gets brought to them again.

    Gun rights - Two cases.
Case 1 - Trump's bump stock ban is deemed illegal. This one's good in my book. No need to punish the entire population because some retard uses one to shoot up a concert.
Case 2 - Violent felons have their 2nd amendment right rescinded. Need to keep an eye on this one as the affected group could easily be expanded from violent felons->felons->misdemeanors->wrongthink.

Chevron Deference - Reagan era ruling gets overturned. As a result, government agencies, such as the EPA, can no longer be the determinants of what is or is not legal. This is now a function that belongs solely to the courts. I agree with the part of Kagan's dissent that this will "shock the legal system." The Chevron case has been cited over 18,000 times since its ruling in 1984. However, I don't buy that it will automatically mean we go back to a flaming Cuyahoga River. Experts in their respective fields can make their cases in court.

Homeless sleeping bans - Homeless can now be fined/jailed for sleeping in public places they aren't allowed to. This one went 6-3 along ideological lines. Ironically enough, one of the big supporters of this bill is Governor Gavin Newsom. As someone who personally can't stand getting accosted by the homeless and hates all the used needles and crime that they bring with them, I am a-okay with this. More of them probably need to be institutionalized in a mental hospital, but that's a discussion for another day.

Abortion pill - Case brought by pro-life groups to attempt to ban mifepristone was thrown out on procedural grounds and goes back to the lower courts. Women can continue to use it in Idaho.

Steve Bannon gets to go to jail - Moral of the story is don't act in contempt of court.

Contempt of congress.  Unless of course you're Hunter Biden.

By then it will be far too late. I was extremely disappointed in this decision.

Just curious, why so comfortable using the word retard? It seems that was mostly phased out for our generation and I think you're the only person I can think of that uses it regularly.

But I don't know anyone using Internet slang like "kek" either haha

On the homelessness one able, it's the equivalent of sweeping dirt under the rug. Or, even closer, just selling your trash to a third world country. Hard to punish homelessness if we aren't actually doing anything to combat it or it's root causes.

Please, please Mr know it all.. Please, if you can find time during one of your endless flight gate waits. Please please enlighten those of us that have dealt with the homeless on a daily basis for years as to their root cause..

I seriously doubt you've ever talked to one for any length of time

Someone seems a little testy this evening

I'm not sure what banning sleeping in public areas does to address homelessness

Medical debt leading to homelessness seems like a good place to start. How we can call ourselves the greatest county in the world when an illness can ruin your life financially is a joke.

                  Testy?

                  No, you are a joke.

That response confirms you no have clue. In your pampered life you have rarely, if ever spoken with a homeless person. I did on a daily basis for almost 10 yrs.

Regarding the homeless, l’m generally in favor of government being used as a function to reduce desperation in the populace. Poverty, addiction, homelessness, etc. Desperate people make terrible neighbors. It’s not uncommon these things are interlinked. Poverty leads to addiction leads to homelessness…

This isn’t to say l support a welfare society where we enable it either. I gotta side with Woody on combatting the root causes as the key thing to do here.

I don't think there's anyone here who disagrees that we ought to fix the root cause of homelessness.

That's not what this ruling is about. It's about getting rid of the minefield that comes along with a homeless encampment (litter, walking over used needles, shit and piss everywhere, drug trafficking, dealing with people who are unpredictable because they are high on who knows what, increased nonviolent and violent crime). There are valid environmental, public safety, legal, and economic reasons for a city to want to prevent these encampments from popping up. This ruling gives them back the power to do so.

Fixing the root causes of homelessness is a task that, in my humble opinion, falls outside the purview of the Supreme Court (or any court, for that matter).

This has the potential to be my favorite, we'll see how it plays out.

In the Supreme Court's monumental decision in former President Trump's immunity case, one justice questioned whether Special Counsel Jack Smith – at the helm of Trump's unprecedented prosecution – was constitutionally appointed.
