Yep, Kyle McCord chose to play in a school that’s not really a football powerhouse.

I think he wants to be a big fish in a small pond.

Kudos to Misery for not losing any players to the transfer portal.

They should make the transfer portal available after all of the bowl games have finished.

If they keep the rules the same, you’ll have bowl games filled with 2nd and 3rd stringers.

Hopefully the ncaa does something about the timing both on the portal and of declaring for the draft. Both need to be after the last college game is played for the NC.

Sad but true CD.  Born and raised in Upstate NY that was always my 2nd favorite college football team behind Ohio State. Once upon a time that Syracuse football program had players like Jim Brown, Ernie Davis, Larry Csonka, Floyd Little, John Mackey, Art Monk, Marvin Harrison, Otis Wilson, Dwight Freeney, Keith Bulluck, Tim Green, Daryl Moose Johnston, Donovan McNabb, Joe Morris, and more...

When I went to college 30 miles south of Syracuse, I went to a game at the Dome when Nebraska showed up there as a 35 point favorite and number 1 ranked team in the country.  They left there asking "Who the Flock of Seagulls just beat our ass?"   Answer: the team you were beating by 35 points at halftime and began the 2nd half of the game with an onside kick off you recovered - so you could run the score up on them just 1 year ago.  The NCAA liked to pretend Tom Osborne was a great guy with a pristine football program so they liked pretending Barry Switzer was the only bad guy they needed to worry about.  Why?  He didn't grease the right fannies, shake the right hands or kiss the right babies.  That said, Switzer did win a Super Bowl as a Head Coach of the Cowboys often looking like he didn't know more than 5 names on the roster.

Anyway, McCord is a gigantic drop-off from QBs like Don McPherson, Marvin Graves and Donovan McNabb.  His best case scenario would be performing on the same level as Todd Philcox, Bill Hurley or Ryan Nassib (Carl's brother) which isn't bad.  It's just not worthy of starting at Ohio State in my opinion.  If anything, he reminded us how good we had it with recent Buckeye QBs like Justin Fields and C.J. Stroud as well as a slew of guys shortly before them.

I welcome the only Defensive Coordinator to earn a Superbowl Ring in New Orleans while understanding Revenge of the Nerds is a sequel. "Come get some!"

I think McCord did himself a disservice by leaving Columbus to play for a weak sister team in the ACC. I agree, Syracuse used to be a top notch football program, but have fallen off the map. I will say up until CJ Stroud, tOSU wasn’t really known for their QB’s in the NFL. I hope that trend continues.

I watched JJ McCarthy win a natty in a passing offense that was the equivalent to modern day football training wheels.  I won't pretend that McCord was much ( if at all) worse.

McCord *could* have improved over the course of the off season.  The things that held him and tOSU offense back were

                          - His arm caliber combined with late delivery.   He didn't have a cannon with range, so when he was late the vertical shots were not as effect.

                          - Using his athletic ability to manipulate pockets and extend plays.

                          - Inconsistency getting his eyes in the right places pre-snap and working proper half field reads.

                          - Inconsistent ball placement.  Most of this being highlighted down field and outside where, fortunately bigger targets like Marv overcame his lack of accuracy.

                          - a penchant for turnovers at bad times.  The most notable being essentially a pick six against UM.  A TD that would go on to be the winning margin of victory for them.

It is what it is.  And the problem now with big time college football are impossible standards to meet.  You're either the greatest to ever sling it or you're gone.  Long past are the days of 10 win seasons and a respectable bowl berth being benchmarks.  Now the attitude is 'if it isn't the natty, it doesn't matter'.

★  It is what it is.  ★  And the problem now with big time college football are impossible standards to meet.  You're either the greatest to ever sling it or you're gone.  Long past are the days of 10 win seasons and a respectable bowl berth being benchmarks.  Now the attitude is 'if it isn't the natty, it doesn't matter'.

~  SO  ~  true  tia !    For a long time now    college football    was my favorite to the   NFL game  (except for the  BROWNS,  naturally.     The game, pagentary and more.

IMO, McCord is a slow processor which begins pre-snap.  I think we agree on this based on all your points I bolded above; because those are all the symptoms/consequences of it.  In the NFL, when you're late - it's usually a turnover or an incompletion. That's why sometimes guys that are slow processors get misdiagnosed as "lacks arm strength."  Speaking of the NFL, Michigan has been hiring their DCs from the Baltimore Ravens. They're gonna game plan for this, which puts significantly more pressure on a QB with this issue as well as his OC game planning to overcome it.   I look at this the same way I look at adding defensive players that consistently don't tackle well on film. They're not going to help you beat the better competition.  If beating Michigan means everything - the Buckeyes need to raise their standard at QB.

I welcome the only Defensive Coordinator to earn a Superbowl Ring in New Orleans while understanding Revenge of the Nerds is a sequel. "Come get some!"
