Tale of the Tape - Browns vs Giants

The Browns Board

  • Cooper was a non factor against the Jags (unless you're counting the long wide open ball that he dropped...that was a negative factor)...but Watson targeted him 8 times.  Watson obviously has faith in him.  He set a Browns single game receiving record last year.  I have to assume that he hasn't turned into a bum in one offseason.

It's a cold hard business sometimes....but I have a warm soft spot for good players who want to remain a Cleveland Brown.  Perhaps that qualifies me as a fool...but it can just be added to my list of qualifications.  🙂

Next 3, Giants, Raiders, and Washington are all must wins for the Browns, if the playoffs are in their future. Gotta have the ones you should win.

Where is it rated the "NFL's Hardest Schedule"? Someone here??

    Yep.

No one with any football knowledge at all cares about last year. TOTALLY different teams, different rosters, different injuries occured, and several different coaching staffs. A preseason strength of schedule based on last seasons wins and losses is 100% meaningless.

A 17 game sample size gives a more accurate data point than a 2 game sample size.

The original post was in parenthesis, adding relativity to what was being emphasized.

By week 6-7 it will change.

I don't care about records after 2 games this season either. I certainly don't care about last seasons wins and losses.

You posted something 100% based off last seasons wins and losses. It's 100% meaningless, sorry.

Didn't know a Giants & Browns game thread for week 3 of the 2024 season, is about NFL teams 2023 wins and losses.

    My bad.

There are so few actual games in football, but it’s so darn popular that the demand from the fanbase to consume football news exceeds what the games can give them throughout the short season, so l have a theory that news outlets are sort of compelled to dig in to made up minutia to satisfy them. Hence the “strength of schedule” statistic, and other things. The NFL draft is arguably the most popular draft in all of sports in America, and it’s all steeped in prognostication on how these new guys are going to make or break your team.

It may not be your cup of tea as far as made up football minutia goes, but it was never intended to be anything other than a talking point, imo.

  • Andrew Thomas (RIP, Tour) and Runyon make the Gmens left side of their Oline work well, that Schmitz kid from Minnesota has been up and down.  The right side of their Oline isn't very good, bodes well for moving Myles around as much as possible.

Their running charts look pretty bad off tackle, Singletary and the coaches really work the interior.  Not all that different from the Brownies at this moment.

Danny Dimes has completed one pass at 20 yards and 7 at or just over 10yards between two games.  Despite being 9th in total attempts...   Sweet Jesus, that ain't great.

Our IOL hasn't exactly lit it up and they're now going against Dex. Burns outside, now with Dawand having knee issues is a concern.    But they gave up a lot of yards to WSH on the ground.  Weird, considering they have an elite IDL spot, a good edge spot and Bobby O is a damn good off-ball backer.  I'll start pouring over their defensive tape after the gym.

Bright side, the Giants secondary isn't like what I remember when I was a kid. No Aaron Ross, no Terrell Thomas,no Antrel Rolle.  One of the worst secondaries in the NFL, including 2 rookies.  If there was a game that Coop could get back into his rhythm, this would be it.  If it isn't, then I'm questioning where his head is at after the off-season trade attempt and no long-term deal.

Browns need to continue to play stubborn on the interior running game.  Because the outside just isn't there.  Lack of execution, bad timing, and no Chubb to bail you out. That ain't Romes game.   Let our defense generate the turnovers, create shorter fields and slowly constrict the TOP

Gmen will probably try to get away with lighter box counts to protect their DBs.  Something the Cowboys did at times and it worked.   So it now becomes a contest over who is more patient - the Gmen's defensive coaches or Stefanski and Dorsey?

If the Giants come out, load the box and give single opportunities? Sure, attack them and see if Watson can slowly round back into form.  They they come out and ask us to play patient, then oblige them and pound the rock.

Either way, this game is just too volatile for me to touch the spread.  And I hate playing unders in the 30's with good weather in the forecast.      So if you're a Browns fan looking to gamble - I'd suggest putting your eyes on Foreman's carries as a solid prop Over 10.5.

Edit: I HATE playing overs at .5 markers.  If you can get action on an alt line at 10, I would.

Well, some strength of schedule "statistics" are not solely based on wins and losses from the prior season. Agreed it is just a "talking point", but a totally meaningless one when just based on wins and losses from the prior season. The end.

On to the Giants and Browns game. Last I checked the line is still -6.5 Browns. I will go Giants getting the 6.5. Over/Under 38.5. Under.

Giants keep it close and the Browns win. Book it!

Most of it is meaningless, but we get to hash out its meaninglessness and that’s definitely one way to burn some down time.

Over/under?!? I’ll take a Browns win over a Browns loss.

about last year. TOTALLY different teams, different rosters,

I'm just going to highlight this so we can all see how stupid this statement is.

Most teams are much the same one year to the next.  Yes, teams will have to swap out and in some players during the free agency frenzy.  And of course, players will be drafted.  But in reality, how many rookies are going to start for your football team?  They used to say, you will lose one game for every rookie that you have to start.  It takes multiple years to turn over a roster.  And most times when a team turns over it's coaches it's because the team stinks...and odds are that these new coaches cannot magically turn stink into perfume in an offseason.

Well, if you get away from your constant and obsessive attempts at trolling me, you would clearly see what I said was, going off only the priors years win and losses is a meaningless way to rank a strength of schedule.

You can disagree, but you can't change the matter-of-fact analysis.

Have a good day little fella. I hope the Browns beat the Giants by no more than 6 points. I also would not be mad if the Giants beat the Browns. I would enjoy that actually, completely in honor of you.

Why don't you go back to Siberia and put meat in boxes...

  • I am going Giants getting the 6.5. I think it will be a tight game.

A little upset with Browns fans giving up on and not supporting Deshaun Watson. He is your brother, you have his back in bad times and good.

Sucks most of these Browns games have the same kickoff times as Packers games.

Oh well, good luck, just don't win big. Win by 6.
