Where's Zombo?
-
This divulged in to some weird shit. Zombo bowed out of his own accord from what l gather. I miss the guy too. He was a big voice. Maybe the biggest.
Kinda cool we got a bastardized homage to him here. Hats off Zombo.
Kind of weird that he's here and such a big part of this board for so long, then after Stan passes away he leaves.
The timing seems... peculiar.
Kind of like with hoorta too... he pretty much has left this board after being such a big part of it about the same time.
The timing of that also seems... peculiar.

Peculiar? Not really. Z is still quite alive and well over on Facebook. What happened is- sadly, Steve is letting his inmates run the asylum here. I've totally had it with the bullshit he lets his pals get away with over on the (essentially unmoderated) Political Forum, and it's filtered over here to the Browns side. My decision to stop posting essentially is mine, and mine alone- and has nothing to do with Zombo.
Me attempting do any semblance of moderation here is a waste of my time- so I don't bother anymore. I also don't have the time or inclination to engage in any rational debate with members who would have been kicked off of any other forum for outright insanity. Yeah- that's a pretty big reason, but there are others.
I'll stop by on occasion to see what's going on here, but anymore I'm not going to waste hours of my day trying to keep certain posters under control. Steve has made his bed- and he can sleep in it. As far as I'm concerned, the plug should have been pulled here- when the opportunity presented itself.

Stan was the glue.
I started on this board because he, Ed, and Don hosted tailgates. As an out of towner, it made it easy to enjoy a nice tailgate. Just show up, stuff some cash in to a jar and have a good time. I became friends with all three. I miss seeing all three of them.
I have been a member of another board for maybe 25 years now. It has maintained some continuity while this one seems to morph every few years since Stan passed. It is what it is.
As for Zombo, I know where he watches games. I went there a few years ago in Naples, Fla. I will be down in Venice, Fla in a few weeks. I may just drive the 60 miles south and say hi to the Zomboni. Toast him with my non-alcoholic beer and watch the game there. If he isn't there, well, I have to find someplace to watch the game. It might as well be there.

My solution to the zoo was just not go there anymore. Let 'em eat cats and dogs in Springfield for all I care. Soup's on.??

So according to Ghoolie Steve is super duper cool about letting people say or post anything we want on here.
Hmm... maybe it's time I head over to the Poliboard then and play with the cult members over there.

Stan passed 6 years ago. Zombo was still very active until earlier this year.
It's unfortunate that politics has eroded our board, hell even our country.
I know it's difficult to not respond or react to stuff I don't agree with. I fail at it myself.
Scrolling by is the best practice. Sometimes human nature won't allow it.
I like to hear other people's opinions, always have. That's why I'm here. Plus, I think it's a better option than toxic X & FB, even if it's been shrinking around here.

For what it's worth, there's some guys from the poli board that contribute some good stuff to the Browns and college football forums. Why not just stay here and work with the things you do have in common with the guys from the poli board?

If you're a moderate, I would proceed with caution?

Zombo is surely busy, but he is 0-3 in his Otto Graham fantasy football league, unless he wins tonight because my qb, Jayden Daniels of Washington doesn't get me at least ten points. I miss his recaps on fantasy football; but he is probably po'd about it.
BTW, I'm trying to trade Jaylen Warren off my team, because he is a pittspuke squealer. I still refuse to have ratbirds or squealers on my teams. If there was someone to pick up to replace them, I'd do it. I'm open to offers. even a kicker.
And the whiner who bitches about the other forum - probably doesn't stay sober enough to play in our BB fantasy football leagues, and spends all his time bitching - when he is the character that starts all the crap he bitches about.
The hatred by some for different opinions on football has been serious bs for a long time. The big problem was the hatred for any criticism of the watson trade. Well, the watson trade has come to be worse than awful.
Furthermore....
GO BROWNS. but it hasn't looked good so far. suspend that qb out of the league already. It's too bad, but depodesta couldn't strategize a win over a rock. Between him and Steflunski and the haslams, it is sinking the team.
Too bad our outstanding defensive coordinator isn't head coach. The defense is getting worn out and disgusted, I think.

Do you want me to start posting what you say to people over on “that other forum” who disagree with you, Comrade Cal? And people have hated your tattling ass way before we even had Baker. Stan referred to you as a crybaby bitch, rumor has it.

Sep 10, 2024Watson's contract eventually would trigger a total cap charge of $80.77 million. If he was released after June 1, 2025 (or designated as a post-June 1 release), the cap charge would be $26.935 million for 2025 and another $53.835 million for 2026. Rumor has it they will not renew Mayfield's contract after a 7 point total score yesterday.??

This fucking thread right here is probably why Z doesn't check in any more. It really isn't rocket science.
^ and if I'm wrong and it has nothing to do with Z being detached and disinterested, then I'll just speak for myself when I say it's my reason.... well, that and the day the Browns signed Watson.
That day was a watershed moment for me and nothing has felt the same since. The only thing worse was November 6, 1995.
Carry on...

Tell you what, losses like Tour, Gipper and Stan were big hits. Their comfortable niche that brought knowledge, passion, and humor when it was really needed kept a lot of us coming back. There's a lot of other fun guys and even a few girls that disappeared from this place over the years. Stan used to call KS Hutchins Mom because every time he was getting in trouble on aol she'd give him an earful.
As much as we hate to admit it, politics is a big barrier to the overall volume of people sharing the common bond of football in here I don't ever remember this much hatred between the 2 parties. Is it impossible to make this board a place where we can put all that aside? It might not be as tough as we think. We can get back to fighting over the QBs here. Anyone remember the frat boy Lumberg from Oregon State? Derek Anderson was his college hero while another guy Shep had a strange appreciation of how Brady Quinn looked without a shirt on. He insisted if a QB couldn't get laid - he shouldn't get paid. So Lumberg coined the phrase Quinn Fag. And it just kept getting more outrageous from there. It was amazing how many children under 50 we suddenly had in here.

Shep...the guy who said he went to multiple games a year yet never managed to get over to a tailgate. I just found it strange how a guy who spent as much time here as he did and never had any interest in meeting up with some of the group if he was actually going to the games.
It was also annoying how every time he had a thought or made a reply to something, he would start a new thread. You would log in the next day and there would be 20 new threads started by the guy. Nearly all of which could have or should have been added to an existing thread.
I am not talking behind his back, I'd bust his chops about it when he was posting here.

That sums him up pretty good. After he wrote a best selling fictional book, he never had to work another day in the middle class job in Ohio again. His new socio-economic status brought him to a wealthy part of So Cal. He didn't do his perception of blue collar things like hang out with guys like us in a parking lot tailgating. And if he went to a game, it had to be the most expensive seat somewhere between the 40 and 50 yard line. Hey, to each his own.
I remember thinking Cal was the Richie Cunningham of our message board; and Shep would show up to the football board furious with him. I'd be like you're picking out a guy that never bothers anybody in here. He loves the Browns and shares article about the Offensive Line. Shep started throwing terms out like Right Wing. I had no idea what he was even talking about. My 1st thought was I like chicken wings too WTF is Shep's problem? What I didn't know was there was a political forum where all this spillover was coming from. Also unfolding was it didn't take Shep long to forget where he came from and that was his downfall. Even worse, 2 guys from another football message board affiliated with the Akron-Beacon Journal called the Orange and Brown Report (OBR) that Shep frequented came over and accused him of stealing their posts and pretending they were his over here. How about that for Hollywood? I never had any trouble telling Shep what I thought good or bad.
Like I said on the previous page of this thread, I think there are guys from the poli board that make valuable contributions to our Browns and college football boards. They also post in the high school football forum. If things were going better for the Browns - I'd be able to say the football board is a great way to get people's minds off political things bothering them. Last season certainly was. Is that QB Miller Moss from USC or Quinn Ewers from Texas going to be in the next draft?

Shep was one strange personality..... His endless love for Joey Harrington , Mark Leinhart and Chris Barkley were beyond nauseating.... He had an eyegasm for every QB that came out of the PAC schools out west... The constant hyperbowl this guy could spin was downright sociopathic... The guy was clearly dealing with issues...

Spot on with Eyegasm. When Aaron Rodgers also came out of that conference - he finally got him right and Alex Smith right from another near-by conference (even though it took time for both guys to emerge). Rodgers had to wait 3 years for Favre to leave while Alex Smith had some lingering growing pains that took additional time and patience that he made worth the while.

Yeah I remember Smiths general success being short lived... But I don't think anyone ever feared him.. Arod was a no brainer...
