  • My first thought was "John Dorsey is coming back......?????"

Sheesh. I need to quit taking those short naps.

I didn’t think it would ever happen honestly.

  • I miss Alex Van Pelt.

That was the dumbest thing we did this offseason. #10 in ppg last year with 4 different QB's, a practice squad OL, no Chubb. AVP was let go all because Haslam thought Deshaun wasn't developing under AVP.

Hopefully Dorsey doesn't routinely draw up plays that take 5-7 seconds to develop. And Winston is definitely more a gunslinger type, whether or not the ball goes to the intended target is another story....

  • Stefanski has flaws, but I always thought the offense was fine until this season. An injured line & DW's lack of confidence/deterioration has most to do with it.

I think it's a move just to make a move, shake things up a bit. Almost a Steven Vogt-ish playoff move ?

isn't winston more of a kevin type of qb compared to #4 ?

they must have an eye on someone in the draft

  • If you're a Browns fan, you miss Van Pelt.

If you're a Patriots fan, you can't wait to be rid of him.

     Funny how that works.

Re: Dorsey - be careful what you fish for.  Some concerning trends with his time on the Bills that slowly washed away the last 17 games since he was dismissed.

Bingo. He seemed to abandon the running back(s) but used Josh Allen as a runner quite a bit. I think that's why McDermott let him go, he was worried about JA's long-term health.

  • This is really good news as Kevin needs to focus on gameday, game management and that's tough to do when trying to call offensive plays.

Now he can coach 2 series ahead and be ready to make whatever decision he has to, but based on history, I would suggest to him to go full Costanza and do the opposite of whatever his first instinct is.

  • I kinda get the vibe this a move to minimize job losses at the end of the season. Presumably Dorsey will get to do this the rest of the season, provided it shows improvement. Can we crack 20 points in a game? It’s not a really high bar.

If it goes well, maybe y’all come back. If not? Sorry Dorsey, at minimum.

  • The call probably came down from Haslam that something needs to change.

The old AVP love may be Stefanski love, who knows how the dynamic goes really. Stefanski is just trying to turn crap into wine with the current group.

  • This is bad.  The play calling is not the problem.  This is scapegoating.  It's a sign of things to come.  This is bad.

That’s the pessimist view. It might actually go well. Not saying that’s a probability, but as a Browns fan we have to cling to improbable possibilities in order for life to make sense.

I don't believe for a second that the problem has been that the plays have not been called in the proper order.

I have no idea what really is going on in Berea.

All I know is local sports radio has been beating the drum that Berry and Stefanski (specifically Berry) had to convince Haslam to go and get Watson. If that is true, I don't see how they survive this season. I wonder if that is why the Haslams weren't at the press conference when they introduced Watson.

But maybe you are right. Maybe Stefanski is giving Dorsey the play-calling duties with the idea that nothing is going to change, then say: "Hey, MY offense works. THIS was DORSEY'S offense, and you guys made me fire my very good friend in Alex Van Pelt and scrap my offense for THIS."

If this is true then both need to be dismissed at the end of the season.

Critical thinking, though, would make me wonder why Stefanski would want DW. It's not a fit and AB would have to know that.
