We all knew that Watson was going to get hurt this season.  It just happened 6 games later than I thought.  I figured he'd cause his own injury by running and taking on tacklers, or because of the OLine play.  But getting hurt with nobody anywhere near him seems to indicate that he's not worth investing the team in him anymore.  But that's something that Haslem and his henchmen will have to sign off on.

If they must keep Watson, then draft a LT.

If they're moving on from Watson, then draft the tallest drink of water QB with the strongest arm.  And if he turns out to be a Derick Anderson...then draft QB again.

Thank you!  Tampa drafted RT Tristan Wirfs from Iowa (whose HC Kirk Ferentz was our former OL Coach in 93-95 assisted by Pat Hill).  At first, Wirfs started at RT for the Bucs and made a couple Pro Bowls before he was moved to LT where he also made the Pro Bowl. Remember how many scouts and draftniks concluded he'd never be able to play LT at the NFL level?  A lot of the same people that said the same things about Orlando Brown Jr.  Ferentz coached Brown's dad (Zeus) in Cleveland as an undrafted rookie that became a starter in the 1st half of his rookie season. Ferentz has coached up a lot of OL at Iowa that later made the Pro Bowl at the NFL level.  We've had other OL from his program late in their careers (Eric Steinbach and Ross Verba).  Steinbach was the refreshing veteran influence lining up next to rookie Joe Thomas once upon a time.  If I have my time sequence in tact, I do believe he was also a helpful veteran lining up to the left of another rookie Alex Mack another season here. Anyway, some organizations/FOs seem a lot deeper with their evaluation of OL players via college and FA.  The GM that brought Teller here was Dorsey and of course Bitonio was already here from a previous FO so what have they given our passing game to count on?  False starts?  Check. Holding penalties? Check. Lining up wrong to the extent of illegal formation?  Check. Lame effort?  Check.  Those kind of add up to check mate...

Right now, I don't feel like there's a competence in the FO that can right their wrongs; but Haslam won't start there.  He'll fire the scapegoats trying to make efficient NFL starters out of guys many other teams wouldn't have considered. Is it possible I'm wrong here?  Of course and I wish I was.  As usual, we have to retreat to the tune of "let's see what happens..."

I think you wrong about how much Haslam has to do with anything.

I do agree, he was probably the one to mandate that Dorsey take play calling.  Owners are people and fans just like anyone else.  It's hard to sit by and watch fans leaving by the 2nd qtr while your team is putting on a shit show.

If any of us had the power to make some changes I think we would change something.  I don't think we would just sit there like a dummy and keep watching the same crap week after week.

I like your last 2 points.

I'm gonna disagree about Haslam. 1st, it's his franchise.  2nd, he is the guy responsible for hiring Paul DePodesta and Andrew Berry - which means he can also give 1 or both of them a mercy flush from the FO if needed.  Even if one or both came via a consultant's recommendation - sometimes that doesn't work out (ie; Banner, Farmer, etc).  Anyway, those 2 guys are responsible for what players they draft, trade for or acquire as free agents. Haslam hires the HC too. However, he does let his HC hire his coaching staff although I'm pretty confident he gets input from the FO before making final decisions.

  • Read this Cleveland.com article that suggests he may opt for the “speed bridge” procedure that Aaron Rodgers had as opposed to the traditional surgery that Kirk Cousins had.

Yes at this point I've so soured on Watson I do recommend he jumps off the Loraine Carnegie Bridge, the I-480 bridge over the Cuyahoga works for me too.   That will speedily end our current QB nightmare.

  • Looks like they have named Winston the starting QB through the rest of the season after being named AFC Offensive OPTW. And Flacco has been named the Colts starter over Richardson too. Go figure.?

Is anyone else slightly amused that Indy got burned for a second time giving up a first round draft pick for a guy named Richardson?

Almost like it was a bad idea to draft a 1st round QB with a sub 55% completion percentage.

Who had limited experience in college who was thrown into action his rookie season.

It baffles me how stupid NFL teams are regarding QBs.

I hear ya!  Believe it or not, it's been going on for quite some time.  It's amazing a great QB like Warren Moon had to play a long time in the CFL before the NFL even gave him  chance.  Kurt Warner also had to play Arena Football and in NFL Europe before an opportunity like Trent Green getting injured in the final preseason game launched an NFL MVP and Super Bowl Champion QB nobody saw coming in his very 1st starting opportunity.

I hate both of them, especially with otani deferral contract that just lets the dodgers have an even bigger payroll. But that said, I hate the Yankees much more.

  • I've been a Yankee fan for 1/2 year longer than I've been a Browns fan.  Mantle & Maris.  The two Boyers.  Tom Tresh, Elston Howard, Bobby Richardson, Joe Pepitone, Tony Kubek, Jim Boutin, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Al Downing, Mel Stottlemeyer, Bobby Murcer, Roy White, etc., etc.

Another good year for the Yanks.  But my Browns, my favorite of favorites by far...can't sniff a championship.  🙁
