You clearly haven't been watching the Bucs or the NFC south

No, I don't get any chance to, but they are tied for first place - and the Bucs lost both of their top wr's - Godwin for the rest of the season some games ago, and Evans got back a few games ago. I like to Baker play. and Josh Allen. and Jalen Hurts.

Browns qbs - not so much.

I still have Drew Allar, Penn State, as my choice for the Browns in the draft.

Not tied for first.  Have same record but are behind in the division W/L.

Baker is still Baker.  He like Winston can look brilliant one instant and look terrible the next.  Still throws bad picks and should be picked passes.  He almost gave this past weekends game away to CAR

  • BTW-GO review the first pick 6. The receiver did not come back to the ball the way any good receiver in the NFL should do. I put that one on him, not JW.

You gotta love his personality and spirit... I'm a fan!

  • Winston’s arm was probably cooked from throwing it so damn much. Entertaining watching them unleash Winston in full gunslinger mode though, with predictable results (a lot of points and a lot of picks)

I could see Winston as a stop gap starter for awhile but we really need to find the running game next year.

    This ^…and only this.

As entertaining as the Browns are now,  at seasons end we may still end up with the same record had Watson not got hurt.

I was too, way back in the beginning.. Now? I wish him the absolute best with the Browns but I know it's coming.. As a Bucs and Browns fan I've seen a LOT of Jameis Winston. He hasn't changed a bit and as bad as I wish he had, he has not 🙁

There is a reason Arians couldn't get rid of him fast enough.

I hear ya!  This is definitely the sequel.  That year he threw for over 5000 yards and 33 TDs (with perimeter toys such as Mike Evans & Chris Godwin) - he still threw 30 INTs that fans remembered more.  I'm sure you remember some of those were pick 6s late in the game.

As outrageous as this sounds, I didn't expect to be pleasantly surprised by what he adds to the locker room/team leadership.  There's been some fun mixed into the frustration to keep the guys from thinking why bother - even if it includes a "don't do as I do - just do what I say" scenario.  He DID help the Browns beat the 2 most hated rivals in the division.  We've been at this long enough to know that football seasons in Cleveland prepared us for the bi-polarcoaster rides.

  • I wasn't expecting much of this season so maybe my opinion would be different if we were superbowl bound but I love having him as QB even though I cringe every single time he steps back to pass. It doesn't make sense but it's been fun at least.

If we can beat the Steelers one more time I'd call it a great year in which our expectations were tossed out with the first couple games.

Breaking even in the div would be alright I suppose given like yourself... I didn't have high hopes to begin with... Sadly... I would sum this season and next off season as a pivitol transition year... Stirrings via Zegura have the Browns divorcing themselves from DW4... It can't happen fast enough... Then I see us restocking the Oline and defense.. Moving on from Barry and Depo... And getting the team in place for the Archie Manning Sweepstakes...

Bandwagon... Not exactly Packer Fan....  FWIW, my wife's family is from Toledo and (except my wife who's sort of a Browns fan) they're ALL diehard Lions fans.... Too bad so sad, you may get another shot at them in the playoffs...  ]

I've heard quite a few of his former teammates in New Orleans really miss those things you speak about above Nicks. With the reality that Watson isn't the same 2 time Pro Bowl QB he was in Houston - Winston has been a fun distraction to it all. I watch him with a different criteria than I would give other QBs that have bone headed tendencies.  With him, I know they're gonna happen so I give him a quota of 1-2 (depending on how good the opponent is).  If he can stay to that - he can help us win.

Even the great ones throw picks... Bradshaw threw a bunch.. All great throwers of the football do... Bradshaw... may not have been the most cerebral QB.. But I don't think I ever saw anyone like him that could put a team on his back and will his team to victory.. Elway may be the closest.. And I can't tell you how much I hate saying that... I hated them like a young child hates spinach or having their mouth washed out with Lye... Brett Favre is famous for throwing questionable picks besides sending questionable pics of his anatomy to estranged women.. Jameis makes the game fun.. I never thought I would ever say that but, here we are... I love his pastoral demeanor and his genuine zest to have fun and enjoy life... It even makes me sit back and reflect on the the things that are really important in life... Even though the outcome isn't always what we want it to be... He brings positive energy and the guys play hard for him... At least he's not tanking like some players we've had in the past. And for this season.. I can live with that.. Even myself as a Roman Catholic... I would go see him give a sermon just to witness that kind of love and positive energy... In that light... What denomination you are does not matter... We all love this game... And Jameis is a positive reminder of that.. It's genuine... And it's real... And as a fan of the game... I'm glad I got to witness that...

I think we're still pretty much in agreement about Winston.  The bone-headed mistakes from this veteran QB I speak of are when he throws the ball late into well covered receivers/areas. These types of ill-advised throws make one prone to high volumes of interceptions and pick 6s (especially on the out routes - usually more common with inexperienced QBs). Coincidently, Winston has a lot of INTs and pick 6s. Because of all the positives he brings that this team needs (leadership, positivity and sense of humor), I cut him a little more slack than I have give other QBs that have bone-headed tendencies. If Winston can keep that down to 1 or 2 - the Browns can win in spite of it; especially if he's also slinging TD passes. Not a hard guy to root for unless he has one of those games where he's his biggest enemy all day.  I'd love to see them making snow angels in Pittsburgh this week.

And YES, as you know over the years I've had a tendency to share HOF QB Terry Bradshaw's stats over his 1st 4-6 years to show fans sometimes very good QBs have longer learning curves than others.  This era isn't nearly as patient considering how much everything counts on great performance and consistency from QBs.

Let's also factor in...Jameis is still learning this system.. That's not an excuse... It's just reality... Although.. I always heard Chris Palmer say.."It takes 3 years to install his offense"... I'm not sure I completely buy into that because from my perspective... The game has three basic options.. Run, Pass and make a kick.. Student body right... Student body left.. Up the middle.. Post route.. Deep out...  In rout... etc..  Then where the real technical aspect of offense comes in varying degrees of the tree route system.. And blocking and shifting comes in.. That's where the real cerebral work presents itself.... At least from my POV.
