Currently our 2025 first round pick is....
-
So right now we sit at #6 overall... looking at Kiper's Big Board, I love where we sit.
There could be four first round tackles. There's even more DE/edge players. Want a corner? WR? TE?
We sit at #6 overall, and lo and behold, Kiper has on his board the #6 player Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty. Here's the question to you all:
Would you consider taking Jeanty with our first round pick?

Yeah I just can't see ever taking a RB this high.
But there has to be someone on here who would.
Dallas didn't too badly with Zeke Elliot very early (#4) back in that 2016 draft.
-
Well, the Jets / Jaguars game did not end in a tie so we move up (at least) one spot.
We're currently picking no worse than 7th.
Remember, Strength of Schedule at the end of the season breaks ties. Right now our SOS is kinda' high, which isn't in our favor. According to the chart that Browns149 posted, right now we'd be picking 7th.

Meh. As good as Zeke was coming out, they could have gone elsewhere with an improved offensive line that would have given them a pick with more longevity.
That said, Zeke and the Oline may have been the engine to the offense that allowed Dak more time to develop into an NFL QB. So there's something to be said for that.

Playoff picture really shaping up. The solace for Browns fans is being able to sit and watch elite teams like Buffalo, Green Bay, Minnesota, Detroit, Kansas City, and Philadelphia at this time of year.
Someday the Browns will be relevant again like they last were 60 years ago.
Happy Holidays Browns fans. It's an incredible time for elite football. Glad you can enjoy it vicariously through me.

Allar is a much better arm talent than McCord. And Better escapability and athleticism. McCord sat for some time got his opportunity and then appeared to be spoon fed last year and had trouble reading defenses. He is probably gotten better (competition weaker this year) but the level ahead of him is three steps up.
Being fair and balanced, I don’t really want to draft Allar especially in the range where someone will view him- 1st or 2nd round…but he has a nice collection of NFL type throws. He may throw the best slant route of anyone in this upcoming draft. But Off his spot with guys in his face and tougher defenses he doesn’t get the job done and his mechanics are $hit. I don’t see a lot of bad decisions aside from that last INT in the Oregon game. Some Correctable stuff…perhaps.
These two guys are major projection type prospects. Lottery picks. 3rd or worse for Allar. 5th or worse for McCord. If Allar makes it to the 3rd round I’ll be shocked. Some good tape and athleticism will be enough for some team

Those seem like fair assessments in the part I bolded. That said, being from Upstate NY I keep my eye on Syracuse and they were televised 3 or 4 times here in FL believe it or not. I saw a much better version of this year than I did at Ohio State. He still has a year of eligibility left so he may stay. This year seems like slim pickings at QB so I'm tossing his name in for a mid-late round possibility. Anyone that can lead that passing game/program to a 9-3 record has my attention. I can't tell you how many times I asked "is that really McCord?" Way more decisive and quicker at getting the ball out of his hands. His pre-snap reads were often on point. I think this was only his 2nd year starting.
We have a lot of needs all of a sudden. We can't blow off LT again; and I think we finally need a freakin Safety. Wanted one last year. We probably need to add a RB. Jeudy and Tillman are a good starting tandem of WRs so that's not as urgent. LB, and anything else I'm overlooking...

It's a good thing the Browns played the Raiders when they did or they might have won by accident. They can't even get passes Brock Bowers the last 2 weeks; and now their elite pass rusher Maxx Crosby is done for the year.
I still can't root against the Browns when I'm watching them. However, when they're beating themselves with pick 6s, blown coverages (via miscommunication) and penalties for not knowing how to lineup - they're beating someone. Next year we can work on beating the opponents instead of themselves.
Let's hope Berry can draft because his 1st round picks are Jed Wills and Greg Newsome. Most of the Pro Bowl players like Myles Garrett, David Njoku, Joel Bitonio, Denzel Ward and Nick Chubb were drafted by the previous regime. Also, Wyatt Teller was brought over from Buffalo by Dorsey. All that said, I think we all can agree JOK was a very good selection especially considering they drafted him in round 2.
Looking at the game OC Joe Brady called for Buffalo against the Lions in Detroit - he might be a good guy to have on this staff. That said, it would have to be as a Head Coach if he's gonna leave the utopian experience of working with Josh Allen. It would be nice to see them start DTR the last few weeks just to see if it's worth retaining him for God sakes... It might have even been you that already mentioned this. Watching Jameis continue to throw the ball late to guys that were open prior to him hesitating before forcing it - seems to always get the same bad result.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/43004540/penn-state-qb-drew-allar-return-senior-yearSome had him rated about 7th - I think he's making a great decision - just wait til he has another year to develop. His stats are even more impressive because his wr's are superstars - his top wr is rated on the third page of possible wr's in the next draft. He does have #44. He might go first or second overall. maybe.
"My" TE in this mock? goes at #12 overall - he's a senior. That is too high, I think. Philly drafted Dallas Goedert, TE with the 46th pick of the second round. I "drafted" him in the third round, which won't happen. He's too good - he's been compared to Goedert, so.....

It's quite possible this coming QB class is a stinker. That being the case, I wonder what's going to happen in Minnesota next year with Darnold and McCarthy.

Well, that's where the talking heads rumor mill starts churning out theories. I've read that we would trade for McCarthy. Or possibly for Darnold. Personally, I don't see us doing either...but WTH do I know? We've certainly done stranger things in the past.
-
As a 4th round flyer I like Dillon Gabriel.
He lacks size but his mechanics are sound from what i can tell. He is also a bit older so we might have to bump the guardrails a bit. His age also makes one think he might not have much more room to grow as a QB prospect. None the less, he will at minimum be a pretty solid back-up with the chance to be a good starter.
I don't know guys, we keep fishing for a "franchise" QB. That's fine but how about getting a good QB? Right now we don't have a good QB on the roster and none offer any hope of being a good QB.

Well, if our last trade for a QB is any indication... Do we really want to see the same brain trust adding on more collateral damage to what they already gutted here?
The same 2 NFC QBs Darnold & Mayfield that are having Pro Bowl caliber seasons today only blended in with stench in Carolina. The franchise/FO, coaching staff and surrounding talent has everything to do with why they were able to fail in Carolina before succeeding in Minnesota/Tampa.
Just my Obs, Stefanski tends to be more successful with recycled guys like Flacco, Crablegs on a couple occasions and even Case Keenum. In Minnesota he beat Drew Brees and the Saints in the 1st round of the playoffs with Case Keenum albeit with a Hail Mary pass on the final play. Maybe he prefers imperfections that fall within the offenses he's experienced success with in the past. Keep in mind, the Vikings felt compelled to bring in Gary Kubiak as an offensive Consultant/Assistant to boost the overall efficiency.
Fair or not, the NFL has seen this FO determine Baker just doesn't have it before they gave up what they gave up for Watson. Baker is on his 2nd straight season of performing like a Pro Bowl QB even if they lost 5 of 6 games without Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Regardless of some bouts of immaturity, it was up to this Owner/FO and staff to make it work.
Where are we now? Heading into a limited supply of franchise QBs for a big demand. Do we have the right FO and staff in place? What a rollercoaster ride from being 11-6 last year to a lot of band aids coming off in conjunction with injuries to a team trying to overcome 3 consecutive years without a 1st round draft pick.
I'm open to ideas...

Somewhat similar to Bo Nix in terms of how long he played college football before comfortably parking at Oregon. I think he stayed in college longer than former Faber College phenom John Blutarsky. All kidding aside though, my guess is the length of his college football experience has probably expedited his development process as a rookie QB.

Seems like Cousins may be on the market - I made a post about it. I'm not sure the status of Daniel Jones. But we some kind of bridge QB as none of these guy we'd be able to draft should start day 1 - this assumes we miss out on Ward and Sanders.
