  • It's going to continue to be interesting to watch what the Steelers do concerning the QB position and perhaps Mike Tomlin.

This is Tomlin's 18th season as the Steelers head coach. The Steelers have won a playoff game in four of those seasons.

There has to be a certain amount of acknowledgement that the franchise is competitive and steady.  That said, during Ben's prime years the AFC was loaded and they had to contend with that.

The roster got older and there has been no franchise QB to succeed him. Their steady competitiveness and playoffs appearances in a QB driven NFL is impressive in its own way.   I don't think you'd find many coaches who would do better with their roster(s).  Doesn't mean I believe Coach Tomlin is a spectacular tactician either.

The problem with that is it requires introspection from Managements and Ownership.  Something sorely lacking in today's world; just asking one's self "have I contributed enough/contributed to the problem?".

And at Halftime it Ravens 21 Stealers 0. I don't pay extra either to watch it on prime or peacock or any other robbery corporation.

My wife has Amazon Prime, but my parental controls don't allow these teams on my TV?

Whut? You don't have Prime?  Hell, it's worth it to abuse free delivery to have them send you $5 bucks worth of stuff for free.

Though I do have to admit the NFl is slowly screwing their fans. Nope, don't have YouTube TV.  The wife has Netflix so that saved us seeing a game. The Trekie in me had to have Paramount+, and um, you need to go the friends & family route to find someone who has Peacock. (NBC being the worst offender) Like us bike guys POed that they moved the Tour de France from NBC Sports over to Peacock.

  • And enjoy my favorite destructo machine working over them Squealers for 186 and 2 TDs. LOL!  And yes it will play.

  • So they go 10-7, lose in the WC again. Their fan base getting really fed up.

    They're spoiled IMHO.

We're a damaged fan base longing for a winner, clinging to the long lost days of the 80s & 40s/50s/60s.

They're clinging to the 70s & the over rated Bill Cowher years. I wonder if Tomlin gets axed ( doubt it).

  • Lost in the Mike Tomlin Can't Win A Playoff Narrative is that apparently T.J. Watt ended the season not recording a defensive stat in the last 193 snaps.

Not one sack, not one tackle.

I'm only mentioning this because there's a very specific subgroup of Browns "fans" who seem to really care about T.J. Watt.

If I recall correctly, Obama was President the last time the Stoolers won a playoff game.

But be careful when you mention it around one of the Ohio hillbillies that support them.

They are quick to tell you how many Super Bowl “rangs” they have.

Yep, they beat Kansas City on January 15, 2017th.

  • The stoolers gave up 299 yards rushing. How Browns of them ?

People are malcontents.  Make no mistake, Browns fans would be the same way in a very short amount of time if the roles were reversed.

Yes, unfortunately negativity sells/draws people in.

There's a Browns FB group that has Baker posts everyday. I ended up leaving it, too toxic.

You're not old enough to remember how quickly this fanbase turned on Marty Schottenheimer who brought this team from the basement to frequenting the playoffs almost immediately.  How? He taught sound fundamentals (blocking, tackling and ball security) that all his teams did extremely well in Cleveland. He was promoted from DC to HC in October of 1984. As early as his 1st full season as HC in 1985 - he had the Browns winning the AFC Central albeit with an 8-8 record. Their running game was as physical as it gets behind a very big and efficient OL up front and the smash and gash of Mack & Byner (both exceeded 1000 yards rushing apiece).  However, they blew an 18-3 halftime lead at Miami where they were running the ball down Miami's esophagus.  BUT, suddenly an OL that dominated Miami's front the 1st 30 minutes started getting flagged for holding enabling Miami to erase the deficit and win 24-21.

In the offseason, Marty hired Lindy Infante as his OC.  Unfortunately, the Browns' 1985 Defensive Rookie of the Year Safety Don Rodgers died from a cocaine overdose in that same off season. Anyway, the Browns improved to 12-4 regular season record in 1986 while sporting the #1 defense against the run in the conference. They did this with a wide-open offense/passing game that stretched defenses horizontally to exploit them vertically and/or bury the blitz as well.  This was one of the most fundamentally sound teams in my life-time as a fan.  Unfortunately, the team we saw all season on offense started playing not to lose as early as the 1st round vrs the Jets at home.  If it wasn't for a roughing the passer penalty against Mark Gastineau on something like 4th and 19 - the Browns season would have died without the Heimlich.  But, they got themselves out of the conservative mess they created for themselves getting back to some Mack and Byner.  1 week later, more conservative offense and too much John Elway against a team in need of an edge rush.  And yes, Marty ass puckered up that damn Prevent-a-win Defense vrs an accurate laser arm that also had 4.5 forty speed anytime a scramble was needed.

The next year (1987) the Browns won the Central Division again with a 10-5 record and they ended up at Denver in their 2nd straight AFC Championship Game.  In the 1st half the Browns returned to conservative ass pucker football running on 1st and 2nd down and throwing the quick slants Denver were batting down at the LOS.  Meanwhile Frank Minnifield was getting flagged for his aggressive bump and run and the Browns found themselves down 21-3 at halftime and 28-10 in the 3rd quarter.  The guy that CPR'd a pulse back into the was Earnest Byner.  Anything from running the ball to catching swing passes - he was consistently making it happen.  Once this team re-discovered their will - thy will was being done.  Denver was all the way up to 38 points in the 4th quarter and as cruel fate had it for the heart of Byner that day - he would be the one that Jeremiah Castille stripped the ball from for his teammates to recover to keep the score at 38-31.  Every time I've seen the replay, I see Webster Slaughter guilty of watching Byner in lieu attempting to block Castille.  2 fundamentals (blocking and ball security)lost in the excitement, fatigue and lack of concentration.

The Browns made the playoffs again in 1988 but losing a playoff game to Houston 24-23 marked the end of Marty in Cleveland.  Look, I get the frustration of not being able to make it to the Super Bowl and understand people were upset with the post season ass pucker from Marty.  However, when it came to teaching sound fundamentals and the winning percentages this team and fans enjoyed from it all up against all the CRAP we've gagged on since then - I'll never understand the hatred some of our fanbase aimed at Marty...  RIP Marty!!!!!

  • Can't see how the Steelers do anything beyond the band-aid this did this year at QB this coming off season either.

They are in football purgatory right now. They reached a few years ago for Kenny Pickett, now they are just stuck with vets like Russell Wilson.

FWIW, before Pickett got injured - he was playing well for Philly after Hurts got hurt.

Kinda makes you wonder if the Stoolers will keep Russ and Justin, or keep one, or ditch both.

They were spoiled with a HOF quarterback for a long time.

    Welcome to purgatory.
