Browns GM: Myles Garrett Won't Be Traded Even If Offer Includes 2 1st-Round Picks
-
It's a conflict of interest for Berry. If he trades him, the Browns will lose more games, then he will surely get fired. How do you not pull the trigger if someone makes that offer? There are holes in every position on this roster.
I think it's very well stated above. Offers would likely come from final contenders which means not really great 1st rounders. Only a fool would trade the best defensive player in the league for that. But then these same fools gave away 3 pretty decent first round picks to get a bag of beans, so who knows.

In hindsight, we would’ve been better off with the bag of beans.

It's time for Berry to show us what Howie Roseman in Philly taught him about drafting; because I have yet to see it. Look at Philly's OL and look at the one in Cleveland - any Pro Bowl guys hanging on by a thread came from previous FOs. Before this season, Nick Chubb had a career ypc of about 5.3. Every time I see Barkley running - there isn't 1 guy even in position to tackle him until he's almost 10 yards down field. LG Landon Dickerson 2nd rd (2 Pro Bowls before this season), RT Lane Johnson 1st rd (6 Proi Bowls), C/RG Cam Jurgens 2nd rd, RG Tyler Steen 3rd rd. LT Jordan Mailata 7th rd. The only Pro Bowl player Berry has drafted is JOK.
Not for nothing, Philly's DL/IDL is young and pretty damn good as well. Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis were 23rd and 22nd overall picks - respectively. Berry did a pretty good at patching the IDL up here in 2023-2024 (after it was the weakest link in 2022); but the rookie salary cap restrictions favor teams that look to the draft to build their teams. The Browns have had to look to the short term band-aids that has them suddenly seeing needs galore.

Berry should have been fired. How can anyone justify trusting him with more draft picks for this team?

Ya, maybe it would have produced a giant to stop those runs up the middle.?

It’s just verification that Myles is the best in the game and we didn’t go 1-31 for no reason.
-
Go figure there is nothing we can get that is of equal return. But some will want to ship him off so he gets a Super Bowl appearance.
-
No way you get a similar player as Myles in this draft,.
The PR disaster will be real if they trade Garrett & release Chubb. See Watson/Baker with we fans.
I'm against either move. These guys need to retire as Browns.

Myles isn't going anywhere.
I can't say the same about Chubb, though. I'd love to see him come back, add a couple young RBs in the draft and have Ford as our 3rd down back. RB by committee.

What happens when he doesn't sign an extension and leaves to get a ring with a team that's not run by idiots?

For some reason I think Myles has this thing about loyalty somewhat like our LT HOFer Joe Thomas. It's a shame for both, but speaks to character. I hope Myles has his own dinosaur museum in Cleveland some day. He can have statues of he and JT on either side of T-Rex.

I wish I could tell you. Keep in mind, the guy that would fire him would be the same guy that hired him. That same guy is the one we'd be counting on to hire the upgrade. It's a donkey wearing a blind fold playing pin the tail on the upgrade.

I agree on Myles. It might take 15 more drafts to get someone as good. Chubb is where we disagree, be it slightly. I think the guy is pretty much used up. He might still be a good back, but finding guys who can gain 700 yards isn't all that hard. With all the negative PR hits the team has taken over the last few years, I wouldn't be worried about one more.
In the end I think we will sign him to an easy to get out of 3 year, incentive laden deal. That way we don't take the PR hit, we keep chubb for a few more years if he still has gas in the tank, and will give Nick the chance to hang 'em up if indeed it works out that way.

Yeah, we had a dream LT to protect the blind side of QBs our FOs drafted with 2 blind sides. That said, it's nice to have HOF players that LOVE Cleveland and glad they're here. After all, this franchise could use endorsements like Myles Garrett and Joe Thomas with all the other stuff having draft prospects hoping Cleveland doesn't draft them. That statement also works against my point. Bear with me while the East and West sides of my mouth are having a Civil War.

Yeah, the business side of sports is tough.
Chubb's attitude and strength bought him another chance. Clearly, he didn't have that "burst" when he came in, so maybe he lost a step. Maybe it's because our run-blocking scheme was lousy, or the line in general just isn't what it was.
I doubt he's into personal stats, but surely he was on a trajectory to be a 10,000 yard back until the injury.
You could be right. DePodesta probably isn't on board with him contributing much from here, post injury. Letting him go would be very hard on our fan base.

I know from the experience of a medial meniscus bucket handle tear of my L knee in racquetball that even after 4 months post surgery of 15 miles a day bicycle riding, I was favoring it when I tried to come back and began to stress the R knee. So I went back to the bike only for another year before coming back. That second year everything was back to normal. And that was around age 60 or so. So I'd damn sure give the much younger Chubb another good shot at it in 2025. I thought from the getgo that 2024 was just too soon for an NFL RB.

Totally agree, even a world class athlete needs time to recover, despite the modern medicine rehab.
He may never return to former form but will definitely get a chance to try. I hope it's here.

I don't know how much Depodesta has to do with it. I think he is just the scapegoat, but that is for another thread.
As for fans, we think with our hearts more than with our brains. I am not saying that is wrong but it isn't always the right decision.
I think back to Hanford Dixon....I didn't want it to end, but from one game to the next it looked like he inserted lead plates in to his shoes. It was hard to watch.

DePodesta has everything to do with it IMHO. That's his job/supposed area of expertise. Analyzes production.
I'd be curious to see what DePodesta would do if he was with another team, like Cincy. The Tee Higgins situation would be right up his alley.
But yes, fans are fans and our emotions rule over sensibility many times.

Well this offseason is going to get even more interesting…
And apparently Myles might be going somewhere else ?
