I don’t know how important precedence is, but it’s been over 150 years since we’ve been rocking the “soil” birthright policy. It stands to reason there was good reasoning when it was implemented. We were a growing nation and we needed people to fill shoes. The quest for a large labor force is as old as time. And things blossomed from there.
The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that was a motivating factor for the wide open border and work visamania the last few years, just trying to fill shoes and get cheap labor. Our growth rate as a nation has slowed considerably in past years.
