Currently our 2025 first round pick is....

@dutch-oven one of my followers sent me this on our site.
Asked me how I felt about it. I'm tagging you specifically because you've asked how I feel about Howard and why things take so long to give detailed and meaningful responses/content.
This..... This would be a prime example of everything wrong with the attempt at sports journalism. Rushed, void, likely AI-driven, lacking any quality detail and conclusion.
This is the antithesis to everything I do.
I'm looking forward seeing what QB prospects intrigue you the most for the Browns and the why.
Yeah, putting in the research and summarizing how QB prospects stack up against each other is a time consuming endeavor I've never had the patience for or the intellect to GET what's transferable and what isn't. When people like to compare and contrast Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes for GOAT - was either guy such a consensus before the draft?
While the Browns and Bengals were having a tug-a-war about who was going to be the best QB drafted; Andy Reid stealthed in and dared to draft the BEST QB in that draft (Donovan McNabb) at #2 overall. If there was 1 Philly fan that thought that was a better decision than Ricky Williams to be their franchise savior - he never spoke up. Ricky went to Ditka (New Orleans) and ended up on prozac until he learned marijuana worked better.
This is what the guy Cleveland's brain trust never even considered would end up doing after being drafted in 1999 by the team with the worst record in the NFL in 98 per Google search summary here:
Donovan McNabb's record with the Philadelphia Eagles was 98 wins, 62 losses, and 1 tie as a starter. He led the Eagles to the postseason eight times, including five consecutive years from 2000 to 2004. McNabb's record with the Eagles also includes appearances in the NFC Championship Game four years in a row from 2001 to 2004, and one Super Bowl appearance in Super Bowl XXXIX.
Part of the Browns history in the draft with QBs seems very similar to what irks you from many of the sports journalists. They're in a hurry at the expense of finding their who and why it became so. This may very well be a weak QB draft in terms of volume; but I'm willing to bet this draft has more than 1 good/very good NFL QB in it when it's all said and done. Fate will probably reward diligence of research is my guess.
-
When the Browns draft and ignore character and love for the game,
they lose.
Just dumb.
-
-
Funny how you completely ignore character over on another board, isn't it?
I think that one is in Germany though, so it doesn't count against him.?
-
Well said. ( so which ones are they? you can tell me. I won't tell anyone. )
The FO feels the same way. For that matter, all front offices do. No doubt they get paid to make decisions, they have far more resources than people like us on the board, but in the end all teams are simply making the best educated guess they can.

Thanks for the 1st part. I've never been good at pegging QBs right; but I do know what Buffalo did with Josh Allen was brilliant. 1st and foremost they knew WHY they wanted him. That means they did their due diligence studying him to know if his flaws were a show stopper or part of a doable development process (inclusive of growing pains) that gets him out of the bad habits he may have had and reinforced at the college level. Jimmy Haslam and his 2 FO parakeets would have become impatient with the short term growing pains and quit on a serious talent like a Josh Allen. They gave up a huge guaranteed salary and significant draft picks for a guy they were still hiring offensive coaches heading into his 3rd year. They never knew why he was their gotta have especially since they'd have to watch film in lieu of analytic spreadsheets.
Film vrs spreadsheets in a notebook is why GM John Dorsey lost a power struggle before he went and helped turned the Detroit Lions around. Film gives you the why. They still don't know what it was that put Watson in 3 Pro Bowls so they didn't have the right leadership employed to even design a compatible offense.
Anyway, you have to watch film to know what you're looking for and find out why Russell Wilson or Nick Foles or even Kirk Cousins would have been better options than Weeden. Then you have to have the right offensive coaching staff to have a compatible offense with what a young QB does well. You also need to a have a good line and talent to throw to or hand off to. John Dorsey drafted Nick Chubb to take care of one of those things.
My point? I haven't seen this team do this even before Haslam came here. They're always in a hurry to narrow it down to their 2 leading QB prospects or so. Even so, they're probably not even studying the potential early-late mid round prospects. This isn't the type of team that could ever do what SF did with Brock Purdy (the last pick of the draft). Not with this Owner and FO; especially while we're in Berry trying to save his job mode.
There's so much that goes into finding the right QB and having the right staff around him with a FO that understands you don't try to protect your hand selected franchise QB with a LT like Jed Wills. There has to be a devoted work ethic protecting the blind side of QB. While Dawand Jones has talent - showing up to training camp overweight and out of shape as a rookie and then tipping the scales over 400 lbs last year are 2 big reasons his seasons end prematurely on IR.
As a fan with a full time job, I refuse to take the time to study countless QB prospects that won't even be considered. I'll have some fun looking at small handful of prospects this team could/might be considering. That said, there's a lot of guys in here that are better at pegging QB prospects right including you. I'll stick to my comfort zone as a back seat driver on this one pointing out what they need to do to get it right. Find out WHY someone emerges as your fave and make sure the coaching staff and playbook are compatible for success to follow. If you don't know the why those adorable little analytics spreadsheets might as well burn in a bonfire.

I'm retired and won't take the time to study.
But I'll research a few to some small degree. And I'll research the guy(s) that we pick, post draft.....to some degree.
I can't wait to say "I'm not just tired. I'm retired!" This guy's got the right idea & morning caffeine ain't even necessary.
As for the draft, we'll have some fun again leading up to it. Then we'll grade it; and begin looking at the undrafted free agents again.

I'm retired and too lazy to do anything but read what Orion finds out. ?
Me too! ?

McShay loves Treveon Henderson, thinks he might end up a first rounder.
Yet another Buckeye I'd look long and hard at if he's still available when Day 2 starts. He is a helluva runner with decent size, has the ability to get the long runs, can catch and is a very good blocker. His only knock is durability.

There will be Edwards Elaire comparisons. Not that it's an issue, but that is what will guarantee he isn't a first rounder.

Senior Bowl is on NFL Network (212-Direct TV) at 230pm Eastern today. A lot of high draft choices to watch there. Daniel Jeremiah identified 6'5" 281 lb Texas A&M DE Shemar Stewart as "arguably the best player in Mobile this week and may have locked up a first round selection in the process." Read it and weep Steve. LOL!?

I haven't watched the structure of A&Ms defense or how they deploy him.
That said, 315 snaps with 2 sacks and 4 hits over a full season either means the Aggie coaches need to be fired or the Senior Bowl is full of players whose hype won't come close to matching production.

Think I'll trust DJ on this one. He's pretty decent at identifying 1st rounders. I'm not claiming he'll be another Myles. That was an easy top of the 1st as has ever been. 2 years running NFL DPOY. Those are generational players. DJ has Stewart going late 1st round. I was thinking if he can just hang into the 2nd, he'd be a good one for Garrett to turn into a great other ender. Nothing like being mentored by the best. I see no QB past the first two that should go before the 3rd round anyway. Not enough talent there this year.

In theory I agree, but someone (or multiple someones) are going to inexplicably shoot up the draft. Dart? Milroe? Howard?

I believe what will be telling is what we do in F.A, if we sign some scrub at qb to a one year deal, That would lead me to believe we will qb with the second pick

Well, I have just under 3 months before the draft. I'll have to add Stewart to the list.

Be fun to see how he does in the combine compared to Myles. He has some bend to him, but nobody can bend like Myles can. Quickness and speed should show up in the combine. Myles can make him live in the weight room wrestling dinosaurs. LOL!

How about this, I'll make you a wager.
Having not watched a single snap of Shemar's, I'll give him an eval. If I end up disagreeing with DJ about him going on the first round, and if I end up being right, you'll give me a like, sub and share?
Fair?
