BG Gridiron's Potential Trade Scenarios

New England needs OL, to fix their running game and WRs. They're more than a pass rush away from contending in their own division.
Why would they make this trade?

They can't rush the passer...I mean, AT ALL. But they're not in a position to be giving away a boatload of picks. And Myles won't go there.

I'd love for him to be traded to the Bills or Bucs, or if he wants, to the Lions.
Star free agents are not going to come to the Browns I think.

1 day agoGarrett is still in his prime and adding him to the defense would finally give the Bills the player they have lacked, really, since Bruce Smith left town after the 1999 season: A game-wrecking ...

The Bills are the biggest pretenders in the NFL IMHO.
All we ever heard was "wait til we host the Chiefs in a playoff game," oops (2023).
"Nobody can stop us this year," oops (2024).Remember, they had the ball only needing a FG to force OT and didn't.
Got rolled by Cincy at home in a playoff game. Blew the 13 seconds game vs KC.
As Browns fans we can relate to their perils somewhat, but my goodness, they can't get it done.

I still feel bad for them from the Kelly/Thomas era.

My worry is we can't trade Myles before this years draft. It will probably have to be after June 1. Maybe even after June 1 next year.

Is this a salary cap related worry? Like they can’t trade him before then because of the cap hit?
If there’s one thing our FO seems to do well it’s salary cap voodoo. I have no idea how they keep maneuvering around Watson’s contract to sign extensions and free agents, but it’s neat to witness. I assume at some point the piper will need to get paid and we’ll be treated to an entire team of UDFAs and draft picks.

If we add what is left on Myles contract, our ability to do the "voodoo" will be greatly reduced. You can only do so much before you have to start cutting players. Cutting Myles now would cost 36 million in dead cap hit plus an additional 20 mil in salary due this year. That is near 56 million.
We can work around Watson money. If we add Myles money, it has to be pretty tight.

In my mind there ought to be some kind of salary cap loophole allowed by the NFL when you know a player (Watson) is out for another whole season. It seems totally unfair to punish a team under those conditions.

Teams play a form of a Russian Roulette with the salary cap.
If the NFL allows loopholes, the integrity of the league is at stake. Almost a weird way of rewarding stupidity if they let the Browns ( & Saints) off the hook. The Saints cap hell is actually worse.
Beating a dead horse here again, but how DePodesta & Berry still have their jobs is one of the biggest mysteries of the century.

dont worry ballpeen, Here is what I would do if i was in charge (i will use detroit as a example) they get myles and we get gibbs and next years 1 and 2nd round draft picks and their 3rd round pick in the following years draft, and they fill have to restructure his contract

Odd isn't it. The Watson deal falling flat on it's face and taking a playoff team to 3 wins the following year is something that Trigguh Finguh Jimmuh would clean house over. There's a story to be told there somewhere. Like, knowing who's idea and/or who was advocating for the Watson trade? Knowing what we know of Haslem's history, one could conclude that it was his idea...thus nobody can be fired 'til next year.

I don't know, maybe there is, I am no cap expert by any means. I doubt there is. At some point the money has to hit the team. I don't see how the money can be wiped off the books, at least from a cap standpoint.

Maybe, but Detroit wouldn't. I doubt Gibbs would be in play and teams aren't very keen to trade their 1st and 2nd in the same draft. From a picks standpoint, it would look like a 1st and 3rd this year, a 2nd next year.
