    Big difference.

Hopefully they didn't already tell him to get out of their way Dutch.  They might need this mid-late round stash after they blow the 2nd overall pick on an edge rusher with 2 injuries + Rosenhaus.  Kyle was much improved last year IMO without the surrounding talent he had with the Buckeyes.  Winning 10 games in Syracuse (especially with that defense) is like walking on water in front of their fans. They believe.  That doesn't mean I can successfully predict what ANY rookie QB can do without a running game or pass protection in Cleveland.

I don't know if I would call drafting Abdul Carter "blowing the pick", but news of another injury definitely has cooled my engines regarding taking him #2 overall. Regarding McCord, I'd be ok I suppose if they took a 4th rounder on him if they think he could be a good fit in Stefanski's offense. I don't think he's a future NFL starter, but the Browns QB room needs completely rebuilt, and getting someone who can be a good, dependable backup is something I'd like to see.

Having said all that, my recent change of mind has me thinking we need to take Sanders at #2. That's about as confident as I can be about anybody right now aside from Travis Hunter who says he's not just a WR & CB.  He added he can also return punts and kickoffs as well as punt and place kick.  If we trade back, there's a Safety Nick Emmanwori that's 6'3" at 220 pounds out of South Carolina that just ran a 4.4 and 4.38 unofficially that I'm very interested in as well as the best LT remaining for the extra 1st round pick gained.  That wouldn't suck at all.  That's where guys like Kyle McCord, Will Howard, Tyler Shough and even Lincoln Riley come into play as later possibilities.

Drafting the head coach of the USC Trojans would be a bold move, Cotton. ?

The Browns love to draft defensive backs, so Hunter definitely should be considered at #2, or trade down and take WIll Johnson from TCUN.  You know me, I'll never be upset if they invest in the OLine or DLine either.

Understood.  The biggest thing that prevented me from saying exactly what you said is the team drafting 1st has their ideal opportunity to draft their version of the best QB in a draft class.  During poker season, you're gonna hear they can't tell the difference between Sanders and Ward - but I think they can.  I'd prefer Sanders but I think TN does too.  That's why you see me naming other QBs to think about.

No biggie, just mentioned it for the sake of accuracy.

You might be very correct that taking Sanders is the smart move, I just see a QB with across the board mediocre physical measurables. Decent arm, decent size, decent athleticism, but some good intangibles that might fit well with Stefanski.

I just think he's a reach at #2. I think we'd use a super high pick on another QB with a decent floor but limited ceiling... again.

The funny thing I read that and started doubting myself... I literally had to Google Lincoln Riley to make sure he was the USC head coach ?

It's the Browns.  Who the heck freakin' knows!  🙂   That's what scares me.

I think like everyone else, they're going to sign a vet QB.  Will they go Russell Wilson, Geno Smith?  Or the all in Cousins / Stafford thing?  I think option 1...but, the FO probably knows it's on borrowed time so....they're the injured dog, it could do anything.  It also depends on what they think of the 2 QB's at the top of the draft.  Do they like them both?  Do they like the guy that they think TN will not take?  Will they trade up to #1 like the bad daydream that Dutch had?

I think they'll look to sign an OLineman, a TE, a S, a long snapper, LBer, RB.  Then depending how well they do in FA, they'll sharpen their focus on what they need/want to accomplish in the draft.

When we think FA we think of players coming in to fill needs...but how many more needs will be created by players that they don't keep?  Gonna start getting interesting in a couple of weeks.

Are the Cleveland Browns ready to develop a QB with a HC that might get fired within the calendar year?  No LT; and NFL Teams aren't going to part with keepers at such an important position in free agency.  Bitonio is about ready to retire. Dawand Jones showing up to both training camps way overweight/out of shape predictably before exiting each season on IR.  Then there's bad luck and long term wear and tear at RT constantly sidelining that investment & contract extension I might add.  There's Offensive Assistant Coaches and Coordinators getting hired and fired every year.  What kind of red carpet is this for the QB they choose?

They're not gonna say it - but neither of the top 2 QBs probably want this mess the Owner & FO with tenure has decimated this team with. Let's be honest here. Under the circumstances, maybe a trade back for more early picks is the way. Don't worry though - they're not smart enough to get it right.

While I never put too much stock in QBs throwing to uncovered receivers at the combines - Riley Leonard and Will Howard looked great to me.  They also had a bunch of great deep passes hitting guys in stride.  McCord and Shough did well.  Dillon Gabriel looked real good but he has the same issue Russel Wilson had.  He's under 6' tall (at 5'11") - which should make him available to the right taker in round 3 or 4.   When there is such a shortage of QBs that the Combine had to borrow Matt Corral to throw - my guess is everybody could get drafted earlier than expected.  If you need one you need one...

Yeah, Stef & Berry might get fired if the team has a bad season.  So, with that in their mind, should they just throw in the towel and walk out now?  If not, then should they address FA and the draft knowing that they won't be back next year?  And not draft a QB so as to let the next HC & GM select their QB?

I'm thinking that they know their situation.  That they know Trigguh Finguh Jimmuh.  But that they'll do their best to make the team show marked improvement this year.  Let's go out on a limb here and suppose that they can actually get the team to improve somewhat.  Wouldn't it be nice to have your franchise QB on the roster and learning this whole season?  Perhaps he doesn't even play year one.  It would still be a valuable learning year (one which I'd wish for for our new QB).  In which case it wouldn't be a wasted year.  -  And on the flip side, if they all get fired, then we're starting from scratch again anyway.  Maybe the new guys like the QB.  Maybe they don't.

Whichever year that the team drafts it's new QB, the first year is going to be pretty much a wasted year in terms of the W / L record (Commanders being an exception).  The sooner you can get that 'learning curve' year over and done with, the sooner the QB will be playing better football.

Again, are Sanders and/or Ward franchise QB's?  I don't know.  Berry & Stef are trying to figure that out.  If they think No, then they should pass on them and pick BPA.  But they'd better be right!  Because without a good QB you've got virtually no chance at success every time/year that you send your team onto the field to play a game.  It is, and always has been, a game centered around the QB.

Even if you swing and miss on the QB draft pick....at least you were trying to give the team a shot at success.

As for the OL, you've got to work on that in FA & the draft...because your QB has to have enough time in the pocket to run the play to it's anticipated extant.  (and to have a running game)

  • Bitonio not retiring.  We've got him for one more season (at least).  Still, we've got to have his replacement on the team this season.  Not sure if Zinter is the guy or not.

That's good news about Bitonio.  It would be nice if they gave him a decent partner on the blind side at LT.  I have a feeling he was assured they would. ?  As for Zinter, he has 2 Guards that both have multiple Pro Bowls playing ahead of him.  The good thing is he has had chances to fill in as a starter to get a little experience.  I'm guessing when college teammates voted him a team captain the year they won the Championship - they liked his talent and work ethic. I'd be surprised if that stuff didn't work here...
