Carrying on my tradition of old school blow hard fan - I bought the very 1st NFL Draft Magazine I could find this year.  I usually prefer Lindy's Draft Guide when I compare and contrast each year. I do it mostly to familiarize myself with a lot of guys out there I may not get to watch very often.  Anyway, I think we need a QB at #2 and my preference at #2 is Sanders if available so I disagree here with the TWO Round Mock Draft I will share from them and in other spots.  If he is already gone, the run on QBs has already begun so it would have to be whatever QB the Browns rate highest between Ward and the rest. Travis Hunter is VERY tempting though... Here's that draft from the mag:

I'd probably take Donovan Jackson at #33 over Jack Sawyer if I was sticking with Ohio State players at #33.

      Man, I can't wait!

He'd be tempting big time but I think he's probably going to play OG somewhere that needs 1 today.  We still have Ohio State's Luke Wypler returning from injury to back up Center/OG so we can stay focus on LT at #33 overall.  After Bitonio retires, Zitner and Wypler will have cozy volumes of experience to compete for his vacancy in 2026 or via injury before that.

It's conceivable that either of these LTs - Oregon's Josh Conerly Jr or Minnesota's Aireontae Ersery will be available at #33...  If they're both gone and Jackson is still there - Jackson gets real tempting as a LT consideration again.

I still say Sanders goes #1 ... to somebody.

edit - add:  We're only a little over a month from the draft.  I'd have to assume that Berry has questioned JOK's people as to how he is doing...and what his intentions might be about his football career.

Not surprised by the Hunter pick. Premium position and an underrated need given Wards health issues and Emmersons struggles of late. He can double as a WR threat and you give him maybe 10 snaps on that side of the ball too.

I’ll be surprised if we pick at 33. If A team has a first round grade on someone they may mount a move up especially if they anticipate the player going early second. End of first round a player makes 12M plus vs 9.5M plus at the start of 2nd. Sure you get the team option (5th year) but less of a financial commitment.  Having said that I think we pass on QB and may look to add draft capital specifically for 2026.  Phones are open for almost an entire day on that pick too.

I don't get the Jack Sawyer love other than he played at OSU.  In that draft I don't think Dart was drafted.  I'd take him in the 2nd.  There are also a lot of Oline and RB's I would rather have over Jack Sawyer.

Also, I don't think the Browns are looking to draft many defensive players at the top of the draft.  We have been hitting the defensive side pretty hard in FA. I see the first 4 players being on the offensive side of the ball...QB, WR,OL, RB in some order.

If we do take a defensive player at DE, it would be Carter with our 1st rounder. At least that pick would make some sense.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Jack Sawyer had a long, good but not great Ohio State career, and he shined on the national stage for four games. His sack, scoop and score vs Texas will be shown for years during the college playoffs.

But athletically there's a reason he was playing vs the RT, and he's probably tapped out. What you see now is pretty much what I think you'll see from now on, I don't see him progressing a ton. Still, he'd be a decent DE opposite Myles, but at #33 there's going to be players I'd want more too, including a few Buckeyes possibly.

My guess is they wrote this Mock Draft while it was uncertain what was going to happen with Myles here in Cleveland.  Believe it or not, there are some Ohio State fans that agree with you about Jack Sawyer.  I'm not one of them; because I think he's going to be a very good 2nd round pick for somebody.  As you see Dutch and I posted at the same time so I'm deleting any redundancy I wrote.  All that said, with Myles still here - I'd rather see us get a LT at #33 overall after we draft whatever QB we're gonna take at #2.

I join your being surprised they didn't have 1 taker for Jaxson Dart within their 1st 64 picks. Meanwhile nobody is going to take the most accurate QB in this draft until #6 overall?  I'm sure we'll see mock drafts that make more sense than this one did.  I wish the author waited til he was done before he started sniffing glue.  Anyway, it's still good to see examples of these to see how fast any run on a position group can deplete those groups with a limited supply for the demand.  This is when/where the BPA vrs REACH tug of wars can start to come into play sometimes.

Not sure what side of the Line Cornelius is playing on.  I haven't checked his reps yet per position, but he might be the (temporary) answer to LT.

Alice Cooper is a good person!  And he enjoys playing golf.  I believe he was friends with Glen Campbell.

BEING A BROWNS FAN IS A TEST TO SEE HOW MUCH YOU CAN TAKE

                            ROUND ONE:

                            1. TITANS - ABDUL CARTER  EDGE  PENN STATE

                            2. BROWNS - TRAVIS HUNTER  WR/CB  COLORADO

I DID like that Syd - it made a lot of sense.  It seems a lot easier for him  to coach a pocket passer given those examples of success he had had with them so I can see why Stefanski would prefer one.  Thanks for sharing that Syd!

I welcome the only Defensive Coordinator to earn a Superbowl Ring in New Orleans while understanding Revenge of the Nerds is a sequel. "Come get some!"

I'd have to double check.  I got a new job and got WAY behind on my evals, play charting and articles.  Going to start playing catchup tomorrow night.

                                      From the article:

the organization are up against because of the Deshaun Watson contract mess.....

From an organizational standpoint, Cleveland’s only way out of salary cap purgatory is to land their guy at QB on a rookie contract. They can’t expect to be drafting again this high for a while, and because of Watson’s deal also don’t have the cap space to make a big-ticket signing at QB, which is why they were never in the Matthew Stafford or Sam Darnold sweepstakes....

also know that they won’t have the money to sign a top-tier starter at QB next year, so the situation isn’t changing during the 2026 offseason.

                                      --------

I really haven't brought up the rookie contract financial aspect of our situation because the more important issue is whether the rookie is worth being picked in the top 5 of the draft.  But the reality is, drafting a QB who can get in there and play better than DTR or Winston is about the only way we could have a pretty good QB.  And the same would hold for next year...but in theory we will not be this high in the draft order...unless we don't draft a starting QB, and don't sign one better than Pickett.  In which case Myles will punch Berry in the face.  🙂

I'm beginning to think that Myles was told that they like BOTH Sanders & Ward and that they'll be able to win with either one.

He does.  Maybe 35 or more years ago I played in golf tournament with a friend in Phoenix AZ.   He lived out there and I was visiting and hooked up with him to play in his club tournament at the Pima golf and country club.  Alice Cooper was in the group right in front of us. At a couple of back-ups we had a chance to chat.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
