Can you guess who each draft prospect was without looking below each block of stats for the answers?
-
JOE MONTANA - 3rd round 82nd overall by SF 49ers 1979 from Notre Dame
JOSH ALLEN - 1st round 7th overall by Buffalo Bills 2018 from Wyoming
BRIAN SIPE - 13th round by Cleveland Browns 1972 from San Diego State
DAN MARINO - 1st round 27th overall by Miami Dolphins 1983 from Pittsburgh
BERNIE KOSAR - 1st round of Supplemental Draft by Cleveland Browns 1985 from Miami, FL
BROCK PURDY - 7th round last overall (Mr. Irrelevant) by SF 49ers 2022 from Iowa State
BRETT FAVRE - 2nd round 33rd overall by Atlanta Falcons from Southern Mississippi
The purpose is to remind us an adorable or non-attractive college book cover doesn't always accurately reflect the NFL story ahead any more than the round they are selected in sometimes. As you can see, some of these guys threw some INTs (and in some instances - more frequently in college than they did in the NFL). If you look at the only NFL MVP the Browns have had in my lifetime (Brian Sipe) his TD:INT ratio his last 2 seasons in college was 40:41. Favre & Marino threw a lot of INTs as well. Meanwhile, Bernie threw 29 INTs in his 2 college seasons; while he became best known in the NFL for his infrequency of throwing INTs.
Disregard the one duplication (below) at the bottom - the dumb ass author tried deleting it and each time it looked like I did - it came right back.

Siperbowl?
NICE! The Kardiac Kids brought to us by Sipe & Kosar. Watching these 2 QBs erase countless 4th quarter deficits throughout the 80s made that the golden era of my time following the Browns. Maybe Tommy Rees will be our next Lindy Infante...
Remembering Brian Sipe was a 13th round draft pick because he allegedly didn't have the arm strength to succeed in the NFL - the MVP honor he earned reminds how much the heart and soul can compensate for a flaw that can be improved. The thing about it back then, there weren't rockheads like Haslam thinking he should be cut because he wasn't ready to start in 72 or 73 so he was on the Taxi Squad. The results of his starts in 74 & 75 weren't much better. In 76, he went 7-5 in our 9-5 season that won himself the starting job moving forward. Yeah, he took as long as Terry Bradshaw (with much bigger expectations) did. There probably isn't one of that saw Sipe upset the Browns remained patient after seeing the result of the Mike Phipps guy that the Browns traded Warfield to Miami for that 3rd overall draft slot. Miami already had the good QB from Purdue (Bob Greise).
Since an underdog like Sipe was already discussed, I'm one that wouldn't mind seeing the Browns draft 2 QBs this year. I'm thinking for the 2nd QB pick - any one of these mid-late round guys like Kyle McCord, Riley Leonard, Will Howard, Kurtis Rourke, Dillon Gabriel or Tyler Shough could be an option. If they don't want to use a draft pick for the 2nd guy, some potential Undrafted FA QBs could be Minnesota's Max Brosmer, South Dakota State's Mark Gronowski or Mizzou's Brady Cook or Memphis' Seth Henigan.

It always bothers me how little love Paul Warfield gets in the history of WR's in the NFL... If you really think about him and Gary Collins .. They are the perfect body types for todays WR.. Warfield... 6'0' Collins 6'4... Warfield was so fluid and natural.. Had outstanding hands and quickness.. He was the epitome of great rout running.. By which all other would be measured by and followed.. Until Jerry Rice set the standard... Gary Collins was just pure brawn and speed with power and athleticism.. Every 4th pass he caught went for a TD... I don't think anyone else owns a record like that anywhere in the annals of the game...

Well said!!! My dad raved about Gary Collins and Paul Warfield. I think Collins is a forgotten and little known hero so I'll share his stats...

? Rumor had it - they almost named a drink after him. Remember that movie North Dallas 40? It's been awhile; but one of the funniest parts of the movie was Nick Nolte - even if non-intentionally. He was a veteran WR playing through some wear and tear. Anyway, he spent a lot of his time off the field chain smoking in the movie - giving all new meaning to "that guy can blaze."
