the Edge or the CB-WR

Let's say that the Browns do not pick the QB at pick #2. Who do you pick...Carter or Hunter?
I harken back to Joe Banner's words just after leaving the Browns, 'Today's NFL is Pass and Rush the Passer'. Of which, I fully agree. Anything else you can do is gravy to the meat and potatoes. I'm just torn between these two.
Hunter - Well, he's involved with the Pass in two ways. He covers receivers and he can play WR pretty well. Now, ya can't cover NFL receivers for very long so you still need the pass rush...but we do still have Myles. He can also go out and catch passes...but we don't have the QB to get the ball to him (although they'd probably address QB in subsequent rounds, but to what degree of success?).
Carter - He's supposedly the answer to the Rush the Passer part of the equation. But me, I'm a little concerned with his size of 259 lbs trying to man-handle the NFL's offensive tackles. Plus his shoulder injury and a 'stress reaction' in his right foot. And, as I said, we do still have Myles.
I honestly don't know which way to turn here....so I'd punt on 3rd down and draft the QB. ?
My heart say Hunter... But my Logic says Carter (the safe pick) But I'm really intrigued by Hunter.. I really would love to see the re-emergence of two way players... I think it would add an element of drama and dynamics to the game...

With his injury status really unknown and the usual Ward for half a season, Hunter would be the better choice if we don't pick QB.

It would be cool. But it's a looong season. Lot's of games. With one more on the horizon. (They'll be going to 18 regular season games in the very near future). I would want the player to be playing at the position that he's best at. Let's say that's CB. I certainly wouldn't mind bringing him in as a WR for a handful of plays per game.
Ward for half a season, Hunter would be the better choice if we don't pick QB
Yeah Tex. I didn't even consider the fact that Hospital Ward (as ballpeen calls him) will be out multiple games during the season. (Mrs. Wife & I will be going to see Lyle Lovett in may - That's Right, You're Not From Texas But Texas Wants You Anyway!)

Until you can't limit the running game. Then you have a minimal pass rush.
Also, hollow words coming from a guy who drafted.
- Weeden
- Richardson
- Mingo
So he isn't really great at evaluating passers OR pass rushers.

the best value at #2 is trading down. Accumulating picks to make a run for a QB in 2026.
But We haven’t heard much about Travis Hunter but I think he’s the pick. The FO sees this as a 2-1. Hunter is intelligent and high character fit right in with Princeton, Money Ball and UPenn. Ward has health concerns, Emmerson fell on on his face this season. Yes, having an elite corner is important in the NFL having two is not luxury either. I can make the same argument with edge pass rushers.
My pick would be Carter. Talking about injuries but how many games did this guy miss at Penn State? Making this down difficult for opposing teams- the money down- too hard to pass.
Cam Ward is Jameis 2.0.
Before we start with what are we doing at QB…I don’t have answer. But I have made either the DB/WR room complete and some ways elite or I now root for a team that has the best tandem pass rushers off the edges.
Let me add…for those in no QB no chance camp. Agree but what makes anyone think this a short rebuild? We will be somewhat stinky next year too regardless of this draft. This is rebuild likely into 2026 and 2027

I’m all for getting a premier pass rusher if you can’t get a QB.
All you have to do is rewind the way back machine to the last Super Bowl.
The heroes for Philly was their D-line, they could put pressure on Mahomes without blitzing.

I understand the Hunter intrigue. He'd be the most understandable non-QB this team could draft IMO.
I also GET people getting impressed with Carter's talent. With the NFL now playing 17 game seasons - Carter just played his very 1st 16 game season. In his 15th game (The Fiesta Bowl against Boise State) - he left the game with a shoulder injury in the 1st half. The next week he returned to play vrs ND. That night he had 1 sack and 2 tackles for losses while he had to exit some defensive series early heading to the sidelines in pain re-aggravating his shoulder injury. Very admirable attempting to play through it and being productive while doing so. Understanding his agent is Drew Rosenhaus though - I think this has the potential to be a nightmare. I could be wrong though.

Yeah,, Never was a Drew fan... He doesn't give 2 shits about his clients... It's always about Drew and how much he can Jew a team for cash... Drew is a drama queen and a shit stirrer...

Philly's DTs dominated that Super Bowl.
Carter had 12 sacks in 16 games; but there's guys in this draft that had more like Ohio State's JT Tuimoloau with 12.5 sacks in 16 games and Marshall's Mike Green had 17 sacks in 13 games (1 of those was against Ohio State)...

Normally I'm all about defense, but the Browns have had serious issues scoring points, had a really bad offense last year except for a few games.
They have to take an offensive player, even if it's a LT.

I keep thinking to do a calfox mock draft, but this draft is crazy. My guess is, they will NOT draft a player at #2, they will trade down. Getting more picks will help them in the draft next year, or help trading back up into the first round this year.
It isn't a good draft for qbs, or ot, With a trade down, I can see drafting Josh Simmons, who is now considered to be a first round pick. If they stay at 2, I would take Hunter. But it's a great draft for edge rushers and cb's, they can wait til their pick at the top of round two, if Hunter is already picked at #1. In that case, I'd trade down - but the Browns may be determined to draft Carter...
I still would love to see Tyler Warren added to the offense.... it seems that the Browns might want to bring in Jason Dart with a later first round pick, probably much later, like trading back up into the first round.
I just don't know... lol
I think there will be serious surprises upcoming.

We Browns fans are used to surprises, unfortunately the bad kind lol.
Jaxon Dart is indeed intriguing. For some reason I'm paranoid he goes to Pittsburgh and becomes a perennial all-pro.
Edit- I appreciate those links, good stuff

I harken back to Joe Banner's words just after leaving the Browns, 'Today's NFL is Pass and Rush the Passer'. Of which, I fully agree. Anything else you can do is gravy to the meat and potatoes. I'm just torn between these two.

I honestly don't know which way to turn here....so I'd punt on 3rd down and draft the QB. ?

Courtney Brown came here with all the same hype Carter is getting. Unblockable, All Galaxy, 4.52 forty for a man that big, Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year, Consensus 1st Team All American, set a record for sacks, and on and on and on. What changed everything? Injuries early on in Cleveland. The only Pro Bowl performance the Browns got from the edge during Courtney's tenure here was from Jamir Miller. I heard everything I'm now reading about Carter.
The 1 game I looked at with Courtney Brown before the draft was Penn State's matchup with Michigan's strong running game. Michigan did 1 thing differently than seemingly the rest of the Big 10. Most of his impressive volume of tackles for losses came when teams ran the other way with the entire line reach blocking toward the playside while refusing to hinge off the backside leaving not 1 single player accountable to block/touch/detour Courtney Brown. Michigan decided to run right at him and did so with good success putting together long scoring drives. Nothing better than scoring TDs at the end of a long sustained drives. Essentially, they took away all the gimmes the Big 10 red carpeted him with and beat Penn State. Carter isn't as big or as strong as Brown and I'm not sure how much quicker than 4.52 he may be; but the injured prospect couldn't work out. Even worse, the Browns have been burned by a lot of previous Rosenhaus clients. I'm not saying Carter isn't an exciting prospect - I'm worried about the what could go wrong - usually does go wrong in pertinence to our favorite team here. Anyone with college wear and tear will now be playing 17 game schedules...
The trade-back for more picks is a very nice option as is Travis Hunter IMO. Then again, are we certain our pick of the litter at QB is going to be better in 2026? It's gonna be Arch Manning; but we're going to have endure the worst record in the NFL again to have a legitimate shot at him. Knowing Jimmy's history of intercepting the Manning family football tradition at Ole Miss with picking up Peyton in his private jet and getting him to UT. That's why Jimmy is open to the 2026 thing; while he also understands the patience of not having a QB capable of winning here is growing super-thin. Both of the top 2 QBs this year restored winning to programs that had lost the art for a while on top of what their stats were. They also have a lot of experience. There's some teams wanting either of the 2 to fall to them so they could have an un-named scout or 2 announcing reasons to stay away from them.

Yup, he loves his Mannings...but Peyton was Tennessee...which is close to Haslem's heart. And although he seems to be asking for patience while we're without a QB, he didn't let that extend to not firing the coaches, just ask Norv Turner when he & Rob Chudzinski were let go after one season. When Halsem addressed the team about the HC firing Norv let him have it, explaining that at the start of the season it was him that told the coaches to be patient because the roster wasn't where it needed to be.
Jimmuh seems to have learned 'some' from his beginnings as an owner. We'll have to stay tuned for another ten months...

My biggest question though is... How long do you allow someone to learn?... How come guys like Kevin Colbert and Bill Polian, Ernie Accorsi come right out of the gate procuring good talent right off the bat?... Yet... Here's DEI Berry still trying to figure it out... Berry to me seems to be nothing more than a DEI hire who is better adept at managing salary caps and contracts... Jimmuh IMHO hasn't learned very much...

You sit on your ass your whole life collecting SSI checks rambling on about people who have accomplished more in their life in one week than you have in your life.

I really think Hunter is the pick 70% sure at this point.
Regarding Carter and Brown…they went to the same school.
Brown didn’t have Carter’s bend. Carter is seemingly a better player in space as well. Having the experience off the ball that I believe Courtney didn’t have.
