2024 college QB stats

The Browns Board

  • There does seem to be a name that floats to the top doesn't there...

...and for all of the talk of Sanders being so protective of the ball, there are others with better numbers.

  • Our two rookie QB's are certainly represented towards the top of the statistic charts.

I foresee an interesting offseason.  A healthy and hopefully respectfully competitive QB room.  Which is the opposite of what we had before the draft.

I hope that both of the rookies respectfully push one another through the mini-camps, OTA's and TC to make each other better such that they both make the final roster.  They have come to a good situation.  Joe Flacco is here.  He knows how old he is.  He knows his role here is to man the ship while teaching these rookie QB's.  He's a nice guy and embraces his role as mentor.

    Go Browns!

  • This is really Stefanski’s year to rise and shine. I’m looking forward to it. He’s on the hook to cobble out a QB situation with a lotta moving parts.

Very true, he's got a lot to work with now. I'm looking forward to this season especially after the last season but so many new shiny pieces.

Thanks for sharing that info.  It's always fun to look at that stuff.

I brought up Justin Fields once because he had very impressive TD:INT ratio in his 2nd to last year at Ohio State and I got Budweiser Frogged from everywhere with "yeah-but".

This was his numbers and you'll see that TD:INT ratio I spoke of in his 2nd to last year.   41:3 as a sophomore is pretty impressive.  He got sentenced to the Bears...

  • All rookie QBs are at the mercy of the team that drafted them in terms of how they develop.  For example, Steve Young had to count on the TB Bucs and looked like the biggest bust ever until he went to Bill Wash and SF. Having said that, this below was a very ho-hum college passing career of Joe Montana that won a lot of college football games in spite of it prior to being drafted by Bill Walsh who helped Joe improve all those stats considerably.  Hence 3rd round prospect long before being in best-ever conversations prior to Tom Brady arriving to the NFL in the 6th round of his draft class...  I had this in an old thread I shared about stats of QBs before they led their NFL teams to post seasons and made Pro Bowls.

Here and now:  The good thing here in Sanders' case - he seems to be that pocket passer type they want.  Even better, that happening in round 5 and drafting Dillon Gabriel in round 3 has me best guessing only that Sanders won't be showing up feeling entitled.  That said, I do want both rookie QBs coming in confident.

  • To quote an old friend from another board, " Stats are for losers".

They are  important, but on a large sample, they don't mean much if they are close.

Well, that about covers the bases.  ?

They're important to know.  Do they represent what you see on tape, in workouts, etc.?

Honestly, I didn't pay much attention to Gabriel during the whole process from February on.  I like tall drinks of water at QB.  So, after he was picked I went back to this thread to see where he stood amongst his piers...and was pleasantly surprised.  And when reading that Gabriel gets the ball out on time it should be no surprise why Stef liked him more than Sanders.

The surprise came when Sanders was there in the 5th.  But keep in mind that drafting him cost us 2 players that we could've drafted.

Yeah, “ take the sack” pocket passer they want.
Sanders -50 career yds. rushing. That’s right, negative 50.

    Howard with 226

Howard beats Sanders in nearly every statistic, yet all the hype was around Sanders. Don’t get that.

Howard at 6’ 4,  236 is the nearly the same size as Ben R. was when he was drafted…6’5 240

And guess where Howard went. Yeah, to those fuckers.

You should probably look at Brady's rushing numbers.

  • Sanders, being a pocket passer who enjoys playing within the system, should be in the building every day that Flacco is...and follow him around.  Learn the art of Play-Fake from him.....we drafted 2 RB's.

Yes, Howard went to your Steelers.

Where to begin?   Ohio State had a National Champion line so their QB wasn't going to get sacked and he had plenty of room to run the ball whenever he wanted to. Make sense?  It should.  Colorado was in year 2 of a rebuild so QB rushing stats weren't going to be anything to brag about - while pass pro wasn't going to be consistent.

Since Sanders and Howard were drafted to play QB - I'll be happy to compare their passing stats:

    2024 Sanders/Colorado played 13 games and Howard/Ohio State played 16 games.

    Sanders 74 comp%  Howard 73 comp%

Sanders 37 TD passes:10 INT  Howard 35 TD passes:10 INT

Sanders 4134 yards passing  Howard 4010 yards passing

Not bad considering Sanders played 3 less games; and Howard played on the college football team that had the most players drafted into the NFL this weekend...

Now we'll do 2023 when Sanders/Colorado played 11 games and Howard/Kansas State played 12 games

    Sanders 69.3 comp%  Howard 61.3 comp%

Sanders 27 TD passes:3 INT  Howard 24 TD passes:10 INT

Sanders 3230 yards passing  Howard 2643 yards passing

I see an even bigger advantage for Sanders in this one

Kinda sounds like Deion will insist that Flacco follow HIM around, lol.

And then Jimmy of course can't help himself... Roger.... Please force this man to sell the team... I can't tolerate much more bullshit from this team...

I went to the Browns website and listened to questions that a small panel had with each of the new draft picks.  Shedeur seemed very uncomfortable answering very easy questions. He seemed like he was trying to give them the answers they wanted to hear and found difficulty articulating it.  My guess is stuff like this is what his dad is most worried about.  And we know his dad knows he's going to a team that wasn't confident enough to draft him until round 5.  Not only was there a sudden about-face in confidence to draft him; but they had to make a trade to get it done in the 5th round.  Hmmm...

Speaking of protective parents, is this much different than Lamar Jackson coming in? He wasn't the greatest interview; and his mom was his agent and protective barrier.  She even protected what teams could work him out and interview him if memory serves me right.  Lamar was drafted by team that usually does well with the draft.

He was talking about Tampa for his other son, but who can blame him for NOT saying Cleveland is too. It isn't, so no sense starting off with a lie.

Just leave it at this part next time.

  • In 2024 Kyle McCord led the FBS in passing yards, beat two top 25 teams (including Cam Ward’s Hurricanes).

Turned around a losing Syracuse squad to a into a 10-3 season, while winning a bowl game.

But nobody went crazy when he was drafted in the 6th round.

I have a bad feeling about Will Howard going to the Stoolers.

I remember when Big Ben was drafted…it’s like Deja Vu all over again.

    But why?

Being a late round pick, it’s not a big deal if he can’t cut it.  I’m gonna root for the guy, he’s a Brown.
