The most significant time in my lifetime hearing the phrase “if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything” was at an MC Hammer concert in 1991.
It was the “Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘em” tour when he was around the peak of his popularity with songs like “U Can’t Touch This.” He was also a pretty religious guy and some of his songs clearly reflected that.
At one point during the show he said that exact phrase, “if you don’t stand for something you’ll fall for anything”, and he went on to explain he was standing for freedom of speech for the 2 Live Crew. Teenage me thought that was really cool.
And here’s a couple songs to tie it all together for those not familiar with these performers.
