Kind of a weird term no?  Limited Partner.   He's a partner...but not really?    Like, he can come to the facility but has to stay in the parking lot?   Does he have to spend 'x' amount of dollars monthly in the cafeteria?  I mean, I wonder what enticed him to buy 0.1 pct of the Browns....for whatever he had to cough up?   Buy low (while we're 3-14), sell high (after we win a super bowl)?

It's hard to speak for someone that's had the type of success I can only dream about. Like the article about this news showed - he's got a lot of things going on after his HOF football career. This was part of what he had to say about joining the Browns "Over the last year, I've enjoyed getting to know the leadership team at the Browns and I'm excited about the opportunity to be a part of the bright future for this team and to help be a resource for the entire organization as well as the NFL. I want to thank Dee and Jimmy Haslam for providing me this amazing opportunity and Derrick Heggans for presenting this rare opportunity to me and facilitating the process."

Maybe he sees the new stadium coming as an opportunity to market and build upon his current businesses or to take the next step toward a larger part of the ownership of this franchise. All that being the case, he's starting out with a small commitment in terms of money and time to see how much of himself he really has available.  You know he's not coaching high school football because he needs the money.  It'll be interesting to see where this all goes since his high school journey opened doors and provided exciting opportunities to choose from where the article indicated he was named the state of Ohio's "Mr Football" in 1994.  Before high school, it probably began with him playing youth football which were just baby steps to the overall process that eventually led to his enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.   Somewhere between the baby steps and the HOF - his talent went tag team with his commitment.  Now this type of football guy says he wants to be part of a bright future for this team.  If I had to guess, I don't think he's wired to be content at staying at a commitment of just 0.1 pct.  Then again, this is the Cleveland Browns with Jimmy Haslam as the majority owner - so who knows what will come of all this?

You also seem to forget that Woodson is the only defender to have won the Heisman. In all of these years, only 1 defender has won, and it was over Manning?

    Naa, I don't buy it.

You know who else I didn't forget?  Gino Torretta won the Heisman in 1992.  Do you think there might have been more worthy players for that Award that weren't QBs that year?  I sure do.

I actually thought Toretta could be something.. I was defnitely wrong on him.. Steve Walsh and Craig Erickson turned out to be garbage too.. And then there was Ken Dorsey.. Kelly and Kosar were the best of the lot... And then we had Interceptaturdie!

Yeah, that's pretty accurate Nicks.  When Testaverde's 2 brain cells got re-married - he got significantly better for a little while anyway.  He made a few Pro Bowls in his career; so like all the others before him in Tampa - he was never that bad again.  He took the Jets to the AFC Championship Game out in Denver; and Parcells kept pulling him out of retirement just when that couch was getting too cozy.

  • I believe he needs to take his name off of his Wine and Whiskey as well, because of NFL rules. So it must be worth it to him

Can't hurt to have one of the greatest football players of all time around. Seriously, everything he did / won from high school to NFL is just nuts.

Ahh...no wonder we traded the #2 pick.  We already had somebody who played DB & WR.

I still can't believe that we swapped 1st round picks with the Jag's and got their 1st pick next year, and their 2nd rounder this year.

So far, the score is:  Jags - Hunter       Browns - Graham, Judkins, (1st rounder 2026)

The other stupid thing about this is that the Jags QB is Daniel Jones with better hair, and they drafted Brian Thomas late rd1 last year.  Sure, Thomas is a star, but all these high picks spent on WR with a barely-pedestrian QB who was drafted first overall leaves lots of holes on the rest of the roster -- and that's why you see the backups being 5,6 round draft picks or higher-priced than-required FA's.  To have a good roster you have to keep hitting on your draft picks for low-priced performance across the roster, and Hunter is good but just one guy.

This draft trade was a fleecing of the rookie jags GM, and you love to see it.

    Well, not exactly correct.

Jags also got Tuten RB Virginia Tech (104), Lane III S Navy (200).

Browns also got Sampson RB Tenn (126)

Tenn RB was well worth those two.

  • Upon further review... We might still need some further review.  Look at the freakin talent in that Heisman voting I cut and pasted below.  Philly fans were already dreaming about Ricky Williams for the 99 draft (forget 1998).  If anyone wonders why they threw snowballs at Santa Claus?  Those were the guys that sat on Santa's lap wanting/willing to talk about the 1st thing that popped up.

Then there's 25 TD receptions from the 6'4" Randy Moss that can run 4.3s and jump through the roof.  I'll say it again, if Manning didn't gag in that rivalry vrs Florida a 4th consecutive time - they would have been National Champs and there would have been nothing to dispute.  That kind of stuck with him for a while in the NFL when Indy would go to post seasons and lay an egg against heavy underdogs like the Pennington-led Jets to the tune of 41-0.  He had some NFL post season growing pains so this was what created an EARLY reluctance for fans to put him in any GOAT discussions as quickly as UT fans wanted him in those.  I happen to LIKE the guy so I'm glad he eventually changed this in his 9th NFL season - when he finally won his 1st AFC Championship and Super Bowl.  If you're thinking I'm overrating the value of the Big Game you're not wrong; but look at what just 1 post season did for Joe Namath's legend.  Did Mark Rypien ever get that kind of extended over-celebration after he was named MVP of Super Bowl XXVI?  No.

Woodson's team won their Big Game because of him; and it probably had more viewers in this country than any other rivalry game that year except maybe TN vrs Florida... Not only did he frustrate Ohio State WR David Boston most of that game; but he also returned a punt for a TD.  He LOVES Ohio.  He's gonna live in Canton forever and he's joined the Browns.

Yes.  There were other parts to the trade, including pick swaps within rounds...but the meat & potatoes were the 1st & 2nd round picks that we got.  And that 2nd rounder was only a handful of picks out of round 1....so a very high pick indeed.  Therefore, thinking of only rounds 1 & 2, this year & next,  We have  three 1st round picks & three 2nd round picks.  So far we've used one 1st rounder (Graham) and two 2nd rounders, (Schwesinger, Judkins).  The Jags have one of each...and have used the 1st rounder on Hunter.

Provided that we make wise selections, trading the #2 pick and subsequent use of the high picks received, could springboard the team forward and minimize the 'rebuild' period that we are currently in because of the QB situation.  And it always comes back to that QB position.  You can make all the progress you want at other positions, but if you don't have a good QB you come up against a wall.  A progress barrier that you cannot cross.  The QB position =  The Great Filter.

And wouldn't it be the irony of ironies if the Browns 5th Rd pick turned out to be the QB they hadn't found since 1999? If Brady was a 6th rounder, why not!

I'd say all owners are minorities. There aren't many billionaires out there. A quick Google search says 735 in the USA.
