The Cleveland Browns are signing former rookie receiver Isaiah Bond, who was no-billed by a grand jury after his April arrest on a sexual assault charge.

Bond, once projected as a mid-round pick, went undrafted after his stock plummeted following an April arrest on a sexual assault warrant in Texas. He did participate in the NFL combine, running the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds. However, no team wanted to take a shot on Bond with his legal situation unfolding.

Bond released a statement saying he had signed with the Browns shortly after he was cleared of the charges on Thursday.

“First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Cleveland Browns for believing in me and allowing me the opportunity to continue my career in the NFL. Football has been my passion since I was six years old, and playing at this level is a blessing I will never take for granted,” Bond said. “I understand that playing in the NFL is a privilege, and I’m thankful every day to live my childhood dream.”

Bond said he won’t discuss the details of the case but reiterated that he “refuted the allegations and maintained my innocence” from the start.

“My focus now is on football. Learning this offense, building strong relationships with my teammates, and making significant contributions within the Cleveland community,” Bond said. “I’m determined to prove the Browns organization and everyone who believes in me right for putting their trust in me.”

Browns Signing Isaiah Bond Draws Viral Reaction

The Browns have found themselves in the headlines for all the wrong reasons this offseason. Rookie running back Quinshon Judkins faced domestic violence allegations, while defensive star Myles Garrett and rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders have both been cited for speeding. Quarterback Deshaun Watson also continues to draw criticism for the off-field conduct that led to his 11-game suspension in 2022.

Against that backdrop, Cleveland’s decision to sign Bond drew a familiar reaction online.

“Great pickup, also not surprised at all we were the ones to sign him,” one fan wrote, adding a crying-laughing emoji. Another noted, “The Browns could very well fill an entire roster filled with off-the-field problems.” A third summed it up simply: “Well, the Browns definitely have a type.”

Bond addresses a clear need for Cleveland. The Browns opted not to draft a wide receiver despite their thin depth chart. If the rookie can pick up the offense quickly, he could contribute sooner rather than later.

  • Some say he was initially projected as a late 2nd round pick.

I’ve said it before, but the qualities it takes to be a good football player are not always the same qualities it takes to be a good civilian. Aggression, tenacity and anger are great for football. Not so great for other aspects of life.

I don’t know what the mystery formula is to find the ones who ride that fine line, but the Browns are sure trying to find it, lol.

Either way he’s basically a udfa so there’s not much at stake.

These kids are getting themselves into these situations is not a good look.. At least whoever is handling these kids should at least educate them so they don't find themselves in these situations.. Or these kids are simply too stupid to realize it costs them money and playing time..

I mean look at Johnny Manziel and Todd Marijuanovic and Ricky Williams and a host of others fucked themselves out of the league..

And Berry seems all too happy to bring them here.. This team has enough bad juju with Happy Endings on the team..

The guy received a no bill from the grand jury.  I don't know how that makes him a thug.  Do you have any information I haven't seen that makes him a thug?

Itt just means they didn't indict him... They never said he was "innocent"

Not always.  JJ Watt, not to be confused with TJ, did some incredibly generous stuff in Houston after Mother Nature went violent there.

When I lived in Nashville and they severe weather inclusive of tornados and flooding - Steve McNair went door to door helping people with his epic chainsaw.  He might not have been a good husband - but people in that City adored Steve McNair & Eddie George.  It wasn't just about how great they were on the field - it was about what they were willing to return to the community.  McNair was a flannel shirt and faded jeans kind of feller.  I never met the guy; but heard from hand full that did...

    Because he's black, ballpeen.

You literally can't be this obtuse regarding nickers, can you?

Johnny Manziel literally bounced an ex-girlfriends head off the door glass of his car... Baker Mayfield ran from the cops when getting arrested... find me a post on here where nickers calls either a thug.

I'm afraid you have our system of justice somewhat confused. You don't have to prove yourself innocent. You are innocent until proven guilty. Both Bond and Judkins are innocent because they were not proven guilty and any charges were dropped for lack of evidence of guilt. So I say welcome to the Brown both of you. You have an opportunity to have productive NFL careers. Take it.

no.. no confusion... The ball is in their court (no pun).. But I'm just sick of the NFL in general becoming a test kitchen for violent, drug riddled players..

They don't have to say he was innocent.  He is already presumed to be innocent. The burden of proof in on the accuser, not the accused.

It doesn't matter what you think.  It only matters what you can prove.

Ironically, I think he got shot by his girlfriend because she felt he was cheating on her with his wife (that he still lived with). A lot of people in the entertainment world regardless of how charitable they can be in the community - just aren't good spouses.  Nashville loved the guy as did his teammates so there was a lot of good in the guy. Nobody's perfect...
