Phil “the human battering ram” Dawson!

It's hard to cross eras, so this may be an exercise in futility because QB'S aren't reading defenses the way they did 35 years ago.

    Who is this generations Bernie?

    - Can read a defense.

    - Makes smart throws.

    - Relatively immobile.

    - More cerebral than physically gifted.

    It actually might be Flacco.

My recollection is about once or twice a game Bernie would have to scramble, usually out of necessity or self preservation. He was so gangly and awkward doing it. Yet somehow those are golden memories.

It was almost like us viewers were in a contest to see who could hold their breath the longest; but in some strange way - I know what you mean...

And he wasn't even drafted.  On offense, this guy was as misused at Metcalf up the middle.  What did he do his entire time in college football?  He was a QB in an offense where his Coach wanted him to run the ball more than anyone on the team.  More specifically, he was well trained to RUN the ball.  Here's the Browns 1 more time - "We think we can outsmart everyone in the league by removing all his training and experience so he can figure out complex NFL coverage schemes on the perimeter."  On the other hand, Metcalf's fluid change of direction had all of his NFL employers but the Browns putting him in the slot (off the LOS free from press coverage).

Both guys were electric and fun in the return game in different ways.  Speaking of which, I have an old Football card that Reads "1974 ALL PRO Kick Returners" with Greg Pruitt AFC Browns & Terry Metcalf (Eric's dad) NFC Cardinals.   I can remember stuff like this and 2 minutes later The Warden has to remind me I forgot to take out the garbage.

  • So how bad a "walkover" will Philly be over Dallas in the first game of the season after Jones was forced to trade away their best defensive player? Vegas consensus says 8 to 8.5 point spread. I think it's far worse.

Anyone see Baker's latest add with Popeye's Chicken? He eats his chicken and replaces his "Baker Mayfield" nameplate in the Bucs locker room with "Better Mayfield". If it's anything like the last time he was doing all those adds as a Browns player, he should have changed it to "Butterball Mayfield".??

Wow, you've got to be kidding.

Maybe this is something he embraces and it helps him overcome his demons. The kids could learn something if he's honest with them about life experiences.

It doesn't appear that ol' Billy Manziel will though.

He still is blaming Hoyer, still blaming the Browns, still blaming Cleveland.

Really? Where are you getting this?

If he’s a drunk and still playing the blame game, he’s not in a good place.

He’s gone on recent podcasts and said these things

Google search “Johnny Manziel still blaming Browns” and you’ll see a lot of links from this week. I recommend the Dan Patrick video on it.

    I saw that.

Why the media keeps interviewing him about his "career" is mind boggling. He had one magical season in college, what else is there to know at this point?

Oof, and coaching high school football? Fair chance that’ll be a shit show.

For those that don’t know, recovering alcoholics that do it right don’t blame anyone but themselves for anything. They figure out their part in it and own up to it. They learn not to shame themselves, and they accept it, and that’s it.
