Vandy QB Diego Pavia Is an Exciting Draft Prospect IMO

  • I hope I'm not jinxing this guy; but Diego Pavia is 5-0 as the QB of Vandy this year heading into today. FWIW, he beat Alabama last year and lead Vandy to a winning record. The problem is he's only 6'0" tall so he'll probably get height snobbed by many teams and draft analysts.

Here's what he did before Vandy:

    AI Overview
Diego Pavia had a successful two-year career at New Mexico State (2022-2023), where he earned the 2023 Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year award and led the Aggies to their first 10-win season since 1960 and their first-ever win against an SEC opponent. He totaled 4,423 passing yards and 39 touchdowns, along with 1,431 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns, and also led the team to a Quick Lane Bowl win in 2022.
  • I think I got my answer to that idea today.  Vandy got bullied by a much better team this year; and EDIT: Diego Pavia had 2 costly turnovers in the red zone (with a total of 3 turnovers: 2 INTs and 1 fumble).  He looked flawless until the game started...

I was hoping there would be somebody emerging as capable of being an NFL Franchise Savior at the college football level - just not seeing it from anyone if I'm being honest.

This QB class hasn’t exactly made me feel all warm and fuzzy about the Browns finding one with their first pick

You did have a good point when you reminded me it was only September - it's still just the 1st week of October. Hopefully we'll start to see some promising prospects emerge. I don't know if I can trust this just yet but Carson Beck played extremely well last night.

I was actually going to ask about him ?

  • I saw our very own Johnny Manziel cheering him on from the sideline.   He appears to have Manziel physical attributes but all the stories about him he doesn’t the same knucklehead ways

You should see the replays of his 4 TD passes.

? Believe it or not, that's who he reminded me of on the field at the college level.  Because Pavia led Vandy to an upset win over Bama last year - they were well prepared for him yesterday.  That said, Vandy was driving on Bama with a 7-0 lead and Pavia's fumble at the Bama 8 yard line was a huge momentum swing. Right now if I had to guess who he is closer to in talent equivalence between the recent Baker Mayfield of the last 2 years or Gardner Minshew (big variance) - I'd have to lean toward Minshew.  There isn't a big enough rock to crawl and hide under in here ?; but I suppose my saving grace is he's become a nice story and a spark Vandy's football program badly needed in 2024 & 2025.

  • Let the tank-a-thon begin. We have the second pick after today’s loss

  • And Jax is currently at 22 tied with Pitt with a Monday Night Game against KC at KC.

Yeah, but that SOS will be bouncing up and down as the season wears on.  We could end up on the other end of that 7 team logjam.

I know it's October already...and we're probably past time to start talking draft...but IMO we have a division title to chase.  Gabriel has got an NFL game under his belt now.  YOU KNOW that he's itching to get back out there and improve on his 1st game.  We play the division leader next.  A win in Pittsburgh would go a long way to starting a run to a division title.  I'm not friggin' giving up yet.

If you think a rookie QB, with this inept offensive coaching is going into pittspuke and beating a stoolers team, coming off of a bye, YOU ARE AS DELUSIONAL AS THE BROWNS

Your reply did not work.  I'm still not giving up yet.  🙂    - the Patriots should never have lost to the Steelers.  they had so many chances to win that game...except every time they got in position to score, they handed the ball to the Steelers.  I don't see them as being unbeatable.

They are unbeatable against the Browns in pittspuke. Unless we have Baker and zero fans in the stands

So, Baker was responsible for the 5 turnovers they gave us in the playoff game?

I don't (and I don't think the players and coaches either) give a rats ass what happened in the past.  We need a win against them to chase down the division title, whether it's played in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, London, or East BumFuck Alaska.  We all know the history.  But none of it matters on Sunday at 1:00pm.  The favorite can lose.  As Chris Berman used to say, That's why they play the game.  -  Am I going to bet real money on the Browns this week, no.  We haven't been able to close things out.  But it's the right time to turn things around and give the season hope.  I hope the Steelers had a wonderful vacation...and are flat as a pancake all Sunday afternoon.
