  • A question for our British Brethren, or if you are all exclusively English, I saw a video of the field being painted for the Browns snd Vikings and the thought popped into my head:

Who are the Cleveland Browns of the English Premier League?

    1) Were very good in the early days of the League.

    2) Stayed competitive as the League grew.

    3) Knocked on the door of League Championships for a decade.

    4) With the exception of a few, maybe of handful of seasons in the last 30 years, have horrible and irrelevant.

    @londonbrown

  • Yeah there's a few that fit into the browns mould. My team, aston villa, certainly were one of the most dominant teams in the early days of the football league....but I'm talking over 100 years ago. They've had their fleeting moments of being good but not great, since. And over the last 30 years,up until the last couple of seasons, have been pretty dire, that period also included the Randy Lerner era of ownership. We haven't won anything for nearly 30 years, but it is certainly getting better recently as we have, in my opinion, a world class coach in Unai Emery.

I would imagine there are a lot of fans of other teams who can tell a tale of ongoing misery ??

I'm actually missing villa's game tomorrow to go and see my other team of abject misery, the Cleveland Browns. You heard of them?? ?

  • This is how the Browns make me feel sometimes.

When the Browns arrive in London  to face the Vikings just keep them and rename them the London Fog and start your own football league. I for one am done with their drama and foolish decision making. They're like that family dawg that jumps the fence and barks at everything but never bites, chases cars blindly and eats it's own crap. No one in the neighborhood has anything good to say about him . But he's our dawg and we keep loving him just the same. So I guess you can send them home and we'll just have to hope they do better. ??

    Good question !

As already said Aston Villa plus my own team Tottenham Hotspur (we play at their stadium today ?) could possibly count but I’d say the most similar is Everton FC who were very good in the 80s at about the same time the Browns were very good!

Everton have been very bad for 30 years or so now so I think they’re about the best fit.

  • I’m impressed how many have made the journey over !

I just think it's so cool that, first off, You're a Browns fan like we are, from waay over there.  And secondly, that a game comes out there for you to attend.  Way cool!  I'm just sorry they didn't win for you London Browns Fans.

  • It was a bit surreal for me yesterday. Actually seeing the team in the flesh and seeing so many browns jerseys was great.

    Yesterday I realised I wasn't alone ?

Hardly anyone I talk to about the nfl has any interest, or they might have fleetingly watched over the years and liked certain teams, usually patriots, 49ers, dolphins.....but no one, no one ever, has said to me 'i like the browns'.

I saw a browns jersey once, a guy queuing outside a supermarket by me during lockdown.... that's how rare it is, I actually remember the time and place!!!

So to see so many like minded souls yesterday was fantastic. Garrett, ward, baker, thomas, schobert, even manziel jerseys wherever I looked.

It's ashame we couldn't win but at least we were in it right to the end.

Would love to make the trip to cleveland one day ??

That's the spirit! Now you can be a real loser!! You got any good Rugby players over there big enough to play OL? Our FO is looking for them.?

Those of us who grew up outside of Cleveland, in the 80s and 90s, without cable, in the pre-internet world know exactly how you felt and today how you feel.
