I think you have a misunderstanding of what "cope" is.   I have explanations and understandings of why wins and losses happen.  Cope would also imply I'm suffering from the Browns loss. I'm not - I took them +4.5 and expected a close game one way or the other.

I'm also accutely aware of the adjustments made drive by drive from Schwartz and the defensive staff.  One's that were working early and often against the vikes offense.  Only those adjustments were answered at the end of the game by the Vikes offense along with some mental lapses by the DBs at the worst time(s)  Those I understand as well.

But just saying "adjustments" like that's some magic word to stonewalling your opponent isn't an accurate reflection of reality

It wasn't unrealistic to believe the Browns could win.  But it wasnt isn't unrealistic to see how they could lose either.  Much like the Vikes, the Browns are a team with a severe imbalance between their offense and defense.

The Vikes also had the more veteran and physically capable QB on their side along with the best WR in football.    David can win some games.  But in reality, the majority of times Goliath comes out on top.

Minnesota hung around and made just enough plays to give them a chance at the end.  The same was said for the Browns, just in the 1st half.   They punched early and made some plays then faded down the stretch.

It is what it is.  Would have been nice to see the win, but we didn't get it.

And bubs, I was born and raised into being a Browns fan.  I've known nothing else but Stockholm Syndrome lol

I'm not reading your incoherent babble about how you correctly predicted every single play and correctly made a fortune off the over/under. That was a winnable game and the defense could have played better, be an asshole about it or don't. We have some retards on this board, but you take the cake for "I'm always the smartest guy in the room and I smell my own farts" award.

I'll just leave you with this

Yeah, your response is completely uncalled for.  I'm calmly explaining that this was a 50/50 game the whole way.

Browns made some plays early, Vikes made some plays late.

My tone was direct but friendly, even called you 'buddy' in a non ironic way and joked about how were all under the spell of Stockholm growing up a Browns fans.

I hope everyone reads this exchange, because you only reaffirm why you can't really talk to 70% of fans.

    - concession is not in their vocabulary

    - everytime we lose coaches have to be fired

    - there are no professionals on the other side and they aren't allowed to make plays.  You can't compliment or acknowledge a great gameplan or plays from the opposition.  Somehow that doesnt exist.

    - the hypothetical "other play" is undefeated.

    - nobody can explain in detail what "adjustments" need to be made or how they're done... but damn, do they really call for them.

    - you said "cope" as a thinly veiled insult and I responded by saying my expectations for this team, including where my hard earned money are put, were in check with reality.  A reality that the Browns were likely going to be in a tight game win or lose.  Which, by the way, you or anyone else are welcomed to follow my picks and profit.

But that's the bother here. I see your points and rebuttal kindly.  But like most fanatics (which fan is short for) you don't want logical, you don't want rational. What you want are emotional responses that affirm what you're saying.  Anything else, no matter how sound, is to be met with the hostility you've just shown.

     Yeah, sorry. That ain't me.

This team is an odd mix of aging, decayed vets, inexperienced youth,a dash of injuries where they can least afford them, and desperately working to build cohesion and chemistry.

The fact they played hard and didn't embarrass themselves is a solid testament.

If you or anyone else watches this squad and expects otherwise, even in close game, then I don't know what to tell you...

Now, for the usual whiny suspects to upvote your post because it affirms their emotional responses.

  • When asked about his teammate’s performance, Browns star Myles Garrett was blunt and straightforward:

“[Gabriel] looked like he usually does. Composed, making the plays that we know he can make,” defensive end Myles Garrett said. “He put us in position to win. We’ve got to help ourselves out.”

    ---------

I noticed that he missed quite high on a few throws.  Not sure if he expected the receiver(s) to be deeper...or if, like Baker, he launches it higher to try to keep it above the DLinemen.

  • I completely forgot we had an ignore feature.

Now I'll never have to read another post with tia's "expert" breakdown analysis and gamefilm study. Yay me!

I literally thought that exact thing during the game that he misses high like The Cheesecake Factory Kid did here because of their lack of height.

And Baker is a power forward in comparison to Gabriel.

  •  Something I was asked and I saw has been talked about here - why didnt Stef open with a bootleg on the last drive to take advantage of a defense crashing hard to run fits?

I'll ask a question for anyone follow who wants to give an honest, well-thought response.

     First.

    - Gabriel airmailed this pass on the previous drives first down, a drive that stalled on this series of downs. Wide open. An incomplete pass that stopped the clock.

You may have to expand the pic because it isn't full screen size.

    Screenshot_20251006_130049_NFL.thumb.jpg.412d8ba13a038f729327377b244008a1.jpg

This is where I'll ask you Browns fans -

    - youre the head coach, you see your rookie QB playing so tense down the stretch that he's missing easy passes on your previous drives.

    - your starting RB is averaging as many YPC as your QB has YP completion.

    - you need to burn clock, so another incompletion to start the drive is just handing a free timeout to the Vikings.

What are you doing as the HC?

This is where I point to the doom loop.

    - Stefanski calls 1st down bootleg.

If it's incomplete it's because he's an idiot that never runs the ball.

If it's complete he's a genius. But with the risk your QB is struggling.

While im here, worth pointing out.  This was the 1st down run on that last drive.  Something not being talked about his how Teller and the upback lost their heads on what the run call was.  Because Teller is running a pin and pull and the upback is looking at, what appears, to be weakside iso.

They ran into each other and gave the 2nd level a free tackle.  Otherwise this is 5-6 yards and likely a 3rd down and VERY short for the conversion + win.

Are you saying the Viks FO actually had competent backup O Linemen? How could that be? That's no way to run a football team unless you are in tankathon mode.

I think the difference is the Browns have actually had Bitonio, Pocic and Teller starting every game (or close to it this year) - it's just the lack of planning for the oft-injured OTs. If you fail to prepare; then, prepare to fail.  That simple...

When our tankathon doesn't research a QB prospect like Patrick Mahomes after 1-15 football - it makes it tough to get excited about the next one with this owner.  FWIW, the answer to all their prayers (Watson) was in that same draft before he got into any trouble - and the rookie salary cap would have made him more affordable (without needing to give up 3 first round picks and 2 second round picks, etc).  I can't promise they would have designed the right offense for either of those QBs. We're damn lucky this Owner & FO knew enough to draft Myles Garrett!

When it comes to fixing a passing game - I think this Owner & FO continues to lose the confidence of a fanbase with countless reasons to do so...

I remember that draft, Kansas City traded and picked 10th ahead of us at 12th  for Mahomes. Mahomes was not a sure thing and was not high on everyone's board. I personally liked him but remember he was raw and sat for 1 or 2 years before starting. I doubt he would've been successful here under Hue Jackson. The knock on Watson was his "weak arm" for AFC North football.

Let's not all go down the oft used "cal"road here. Makes no sense. Just say you don't like the responses and leave it there. Or give an alternative and let it live on its own merit. Even cal has some of those occasionally.

I lived in Parma, Ohio and NYC for the first 40 years of my life, so it's not in my DNA to back down. That's why tia is in iggy jail, it's more for sparing the rest of the board from two bighorn sheep butting heads for the next 5 pages and feuding beyond.

But I hear you, TexasAg. I come on here to discuss the Browns because I'm not local anymore. I'm not here to argue with fans of my own team, we're all rooting for the Browns. We can disagree, just don't be an a-hole or condescending about it because you *think* you know more is all I'm saying.

I would roll him out to the left and not the right personally. As I stated earlier with the timeout thing I don't judge based off of outcomes. I judge based of decisions. I personally don't think running into a 9-10 man box was the right decision and I'll stand by that. Obviously there is no way for you to know but if he had called a bootleg and Gabriel missed a throw I would have said well I would have done the same thing and all you can do is put your guys in the best position to make a play.

That's a fair and decent take, putting your guys in position to make a play.

The other half of the contingent has to be acknowledged here - that has been the repeated calls since 2021 that Stef doesnt "run the football enough".  Especially to close out games.

I'm 3 drives in on the offense and there is one thing I would like to see improvement on - the RPO structure.

Kevin O connell and the Minnesota coaching staff is great at it and it showed creating more throws for the vikes great receiving corps.   I want to see Stef and Rees hit the drawing board hard this week in both creation and timing of deployment (goes without saying, empowering Gabriel to make proper sight adjusts and protection calls)

Spot on especially with 3 plus minutes left. You burn the Vikings timeouts and they still have 3 minutes to drive annd get into fg range and tie the game up.  I may have a different answer if we play prevent offense with a minute or so left.

the run game was working when Njoku was slipping behind the backers it doesn’t have the same effectiveness when the safeties and backers are camped at the LOS.

becomes a question or desire to

Possess the ball as long as you can vs burning timeouts

We had the ball with 3 minutes left, 2 failed runs and then throwing a long out route instead of a safer screen or additional run was bad playcalling. It left Vikings with 1 timeout.
Probably should have been more aggressive on 1st or second down instead, as previously mentioned.
After this the Vikings are moving the ball and Stefanski starts burning timeouts. The jet lag must have been hitting hard.

That was not Ward’s best coverage with no help over top, but it was after bad game management.

  • Being at the game I was pretty shocked at how small Gabriel looked.

When he missed he missed really badly, I came away convinced he won’t be anything more than a career back up at best

    You aren’t the only one.

But I would prefer to have a legitimate possession at the end of the game in a one score game.  Not a possession with 10 seconds left and you need to drive 80 yards.

And I want to possess the ball with a scoring opportunity to end the first half.

I support any clock management practice to make that happen.  Taking timeouts, faking injuries, pushing a guy out of bounds, etc.

Stefanski is not perfect he’s not wrong here though
