Flacco Traded

The Browns Board
62 21 1.4k 1
  • I do hope Joe comes back every year for the Assumption Feast though.

  • Just another typical Browns thing to don

  • Well, they weren't going to go back to him.  They weren't going to bring him back next year.  They turned a 6th round pick into a 5th.   Thanks Joe Flacco...thanks for everything you did for our rookie QB's.  All the best to you...forever.

    -------------

On the Browns homepage, Sanders is listed as the backup to Gabriel.  This is good.  The guy that wasn't the future is not taking reps from anyone any more.  (in all deference to Joe Flacco)   Each drafted QB, Gabriel & Sanders, now has a clear role.   It's your offense now Gabriel.  They're not going into the bullpen.  Sanders coming to the team was a fluke afterthought.  No reason to look over your shoulder.   Sanders, you've gotta prepare like you're the starting QB.  You've got to know your shit backwards and forwards because if Gabriel the Smurf (in all deference to Dillon Gabriel) gets hurt you've got to go in and take the team to victory.

I'm sorry that one of the nicest guys in football had to be unceremoniously removed from the team....but it is truly better for the current team going forward.

If we remember from the winter meetings this past season, Haslem talked about a swing and a miss with Watson, and how 'It may take a couple of years' to fix the QB position.  Well, we're still in year one.

That is what I'm thinking. It may not be this week, but they will bring Deshaun off the PUP at some point and he could very well be the starter again. I'm not saying I want this to happen, but it seems like a real possibility at this point. Gabriel, Shedeur, Zappe until Deshaun gets activated. Then Deshaun comes back and starts and Deshaun/Gabriel/Shedeur with Zappe back to the practice squad.

Thanks Joe for being a professional. 2023 was some fun memories.

I guess they really want to alienate the fan base by bringing that useless tool back...

what if he balls out, we might be able to something for him OR play him next year and go to the freaking super bowl

I'm not into people being unemployed but my goodness, trading within the division? These guys are Ivy Leaguers?

Is this 2017 all over again( Kizer,Kessler, Hogan)?

That’s rare, but seriously how much longer is Flacco playing?

And I’m more convinced now than ever that Kenny Pickett would’ve been the starter if he hadn’t got injured in training camp.

I believed that all along.  They traded for him before doing anything else at QB.  I'm confident that they expected him to start.  Later when they brought in Flacco it was the thinking that hey, he's available, we're going to draft Gabriel (or someone like him) and that would be their 3 QB's.  But we all know what happened on draft Saturday.  Adding Shedeure necessitated a plan B strategy.

I'm guessing what happened was, Pickett injured his hammy and it didn't get better in time...and during that time they saw Gabriel practicing and felt like he was doing pretty well...certainly absorbing the playbook and being mature.  If Pickett wouldn't have gotten hurt things would've been a bit different.  I bet they'd have kept all 4 QB's going into the regular season.

I also feel that they wanted to see Gabriel at helm at some point (if it turned out that Pickett was NOT going to be the next comeback player of the year).  But they really needed him was for the beginning of the season...and when it looked like he was too far behind with the injury they just decided that Flacco would be the early season QB.

Cincys Oline is, across the board, measurably worse.  Especially on the IOL.

Unless Joe shaves off 15 years along with Chase and Higgy catching every single 50/50 ball imaginable, Joe is going to take as many, likely more, hits and sacks than he did in CLE.

If he doesnt, then expect another high turnover stretch from him.

Per the usual, he'll have one decent game... fans will go nuts on both sides for different reasons, then he'll fade back to the mean and people will magically forget their uproar.

Yeah the twilight is passing right before Joe's eyes.. I thank him for what he's done here but it's time for him to ride into the sunset... He's a good dude!

Yep!! Amazing injection of energy in 2023. Too bad they cut him loose in 2024, dumb move.

  • He may be the only QB in NFL history to have played for 3 teams in the same division.

Next stop Pittsburgh for a clean sweep? Not a chance. They ain’t that stupid. But I’d love to see him fuck up there.

I just read that there's only been 3 QB trades in NFL history within the division.

    *McNabb from Philly to Washington

*Bledsoe from New England to Buffalo

    *Flacco from CLE to Cincy

Although not a trade, Packers QB  Brent Favre signed with division rival Vikings as a free agent.

So I did a quick search and Flacco wasn’t the only one. AI says that Jim McMahon had also played for 3 teams in the same division.

Jim McMahon: Spent time with the Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, and Green Bay Packers, all of whom play in the NFC North.

Well at one time, we were the winningest franchise in NFL history.

The last 30 years, since Modell bolted,well......

I doubt it because it's becoming clearer that Stefanski is the problem with this offense.

Part of the trade was QB Dick Shiner, who went from the Browns to the Steelers.

    Yes, Dick Shiner.

Its like no one watched him in Indy last year, or Indy this year with Daniel Jones.

Until then, Jimmy's FO continues to celebrate unchallenged tenure in Cleveland while the musical scapegoats continue.  Anyway, last year the Colts signed Flacco and after an impressive 1st 3 games - see the rest as well as the volume of sacks (slow processing).  I didn't include his rushing stats because he didn't have any TDs. More specifically, a Cinderella story starring a 39 year old QB is gonna have a very early midnight.

I'm not saying I saw this coming; but 1 year later - the Colts signed Indiana Jones.  Here's how he's done as their QB fwiw (notice the change in sacks from quicker processing of passer). In fairness, I don't think anyone projected this for Daniel Jones. That said, the 1 team that put in the research looks to be rewarded for doing so at least for now. I think Sam Darnold's season in Minnesota last year proved the right situation/fit for a QB can improve the QB's chance for success:

  • I bet he wanted to go somewhere he can play, it's probably his last year before retirement.

We suck and wanna ride with the rookies the rest of the way.

  • So long Joe and best of luck, but not too much luck since it’s the Bengals and all…

The sequel to Flaccomania wasn’t nearly as good as the original, but that is often the case with sequels.
