LOL! The Bengals DB's are probably looking forward to making a lot of interceptions Sunday.

  • I can't believe the negativity in this thread, you'll all jump on the DA bandwagon once the Browns win on sunday.

DA is a pro bowl quarterback who threw for almost 4,000 yards, 29 touchdowns, and got the team to 10-6 in 2007, get the HELL over it. Quinn hasn't even thrown for more first downs than DA has TDs.

You'll have to forgive the lack of excitement for another HC being indecisive (or unable to evaluate a QB for his system), along with now change to the lowest rated QB from 2008.

Weeks 12 of the 2007 season was a long, long, long, long, long time ago.

  • I can't say that I am surprised....but I find it more than a bit disconcerting that Mangini stated point bland that once a decision was made at QB it was made....and that he would not be going back and forth.

Now, just 10 quarters into the season, he has already made a QB change. I know BQ wasn't exactly lighting things up...but what part of 11/19, 92yds, 3 INT's is lighting things up???

At any rate...I will be hoping to see DA play with some kind of rhythm, and with at least a semblance of a short passing game.

Personally, I don't care if it is DA or BQ, as long as ONE of them steps up and plays well enough for us to use the #1 pick for something OTHER than another QB.

    Amen..

That's what I'm rooting for at this point.

Jon Gruden on Sirius radio today ( when asked to comment on the problems of JaMarcus and Brady ) that he wishes he had the keys to Quinn for 1 season because he has the desire, brains, build and arm to succeed in this game.

Oh boy does he have the build to succeed. I'm getting wood just thinking about it. Can't have a QB without the build to succeed.

    No wonder Gruden got canned.

    Careful there Mr. DA-Isn't-An-INT-Machine 😉

Anderson is a TD machine more than an INT machine. Quinn has a negative TD/INT ratio & has shown nothing to indicate that'll ever change.

Certainly proved that point this past Sunday..how many TD's was it and how many INT's was it?

Seeing as how DA's last 2 starts against CIN look like following, I am pretty sure they have no feelings on the decision:

    @CIN 29/48 251 Yards, 5.2 Y/A, 2 TD, 4 INT, 1 sack

    @CIN 15/24 138 Yards, 5.8 Y/A, 1 TD, 1 INT, 1 sack, 1 fum

Point being, they would much rather deal with Brady and the offense ha has been producing rather than DA. The point wasn't that DA will throw 500 yards.

Oh god, I remember that 48att game in 30-40mph winds. Chud was brilliant.

  • Regardless of what happens Sunday, DA will prove he's a career backup over the course of the season. Why not continue evaluating Quinn, unless we've decided that 2 1/2 games is our standard (particularly when he looked pretty good last year)?

The only two things I can think of are these:

    * Mangini is feeling the heat, fearing he might be canned this year, and hoping Anderson catches fire for a game or two.

    * The Browns don't want to pay Quinn's bonus.

Other than that, this move makes no sense whatsoever for the future, which is all we should care about because this year is a lost cause.

Some guys like to take things one game at a time, beat off after ever victory and throw their beer cans at the TV every time the team gets behind. I'm not one of them.

If you take a look at the overall picture, for every really crappy game DA has, he has one pretty darned good game that hasn't been matched by any of the alternatives on the team since he's been here, the rest of the games are good enough to keep the team in the game... which also hasn't happened under the other QBs on the roster in the last 5 years.

He was put into a bad situation this last game. I'd bet money that if he gets the next ten quarters of play, the Browns will have more than 1 TD out of the deal, may even get a win or two.... Quinn was getting nowhere in either regard.

  • Ok..so the overall picture is that DA is a .500 QB. "for every crappy game, he has one good game", those are your words. 8-8 doesn't make the playoffs chachi.

You said he's a "TD machine"...I just pointed out that we didn't score a TD with either QB on the field last week and that your "TD machine" threw 3 INTS.

I hope he has a game like 2007 against Cincinatti this Sunday...but even if he does..he has to prove he can do it week in and week out. No one with any brains has questioned the fact that Anderson is capable of some huge games...the problem with him is the huge inconsistency. He's as likely to throw 3+ TD passes as he is to throw 3+ INT's.

Inconsistency doesn't win in the NFL anymore than the shitty offense than we've had so far this year does.

He's a .500 QB with a historically .250 team. Better take what you can get.

  • Sorry...I want more than that.

I'm not beating off celebrating that "my QB" is now starting again like some of you.

.500 still sucks. Inconsistency at the QB position sucks. I'm happy for you that it's ok in your world, but I want more than that.

Both QB's suck and we're drafting another xxxxing QB in round 1 in 2010 and that isn't good.

or what? you think Mangini is gonna throw Captain Checkdown back in there to take care of bidness?

  • No Captain Dickbrain...

Try to follow how a BROWNS fan thinks..

If Quinn isn't the answer (clearly not so far) and if Anderson shits all over himself or continues to be mr. inconsistent, the Browns are drafting a QB in round 1 next year because we would've found out that we don't have the QB of the future on the team right now and that is a bad thing for the future of this team. This team has many holes and doesn't need to be drafting a QB in the first round next year so I goddamn hope that the future of this team is already on the roster. Quinn hasn't shown to be the guy so far and Anderson's career has been a study in inconsistency and a guy who is basically an 8-8 QB (at best) isn't the guy to lead us to a super bowl, let alone the playoffs.

  • Oh here we go, this sucks, it really does. Im sick and tired of having our defense worn out by fricken picks all day. Its maddening. You do know that this descision is gonna blow up in his face right? If Derek wins, Ill change my tune, but I can see a pick 6 to Maualuga coming soon to a stadium near you!

(now that would be TRUE irony, DA pick 6 to ReyRey)

    Which decision?

The one to come here and inherit this QB clusterphuck would have blown the average dude's head off? He gave it a lengthy look and realized his next decision was to decide which poison would keep his head coaching career alive. Then he learns he has to sip both poisons and hope to keep a pulse.

The sad truth for us all is that Quinn sucking doesn't make DA a good QB. For example, 3 INTs in 1 half. That said - in fairness to Dumb Ass, he didn't get the week to prepare for the Ratbirds with the 1st Offense. He DID drive us to our only points and it was nice to see a guy that wasn't petrified to throw passes greater than 10 yards. Quit blaming offensive coordinators, bad coaching and everybody but Quinn for that folks. He stunk and we were WRONG. There's nothing to argue about. We're the Cleveland Browns so our best QB can only have 2 brain cells that aren't on speaking terms. And just when you think we might be overcoming such a thing - he gets sacked by a blade of grass only assisted by the referee's whistle. Warm fuzzies? You bet!

Furthermore, I couldn't think of a better team for Dumb Ass to get his first start of this season against. This way if he's back to his INT tendencies - at least we can say he was throwing it to the guys wearing orange helmets. In the process, we get to party like it's 1999 all over again. That was ONLY 10 years ago. I've had so much practice perfecting baby steps, moral victories and next year that it's become instinctive.

I'll root for Dumb Ass this Sunday and if he sucks - they prolly won't wait too long before they put in Ratliff. I'd rather FREAKIN win than deal with that crap though. It looks like the countdown to Colts McCoys has already begun.

I'm seeing people here say the team sucks, the coaches suck, the offense sucks, and they don't have any targets to throw to... and if a QB comes in and somehow gets this team to .500 he sucks too.

Anderson took a four win team, that looked like crap in it's first start of '07, to 10 wins in his first season of starts... and many of the same guys who are blaming him for not reaching the playoffs are willing to sit on Quinn for as long as it takes...

I say, stick with Anderson for now, unless he really does start throwing the predicted 3 to 1 INT to TD games some here predict, then make a decision at the end of the season. I think a first round QB would also be a mistake. If Anderson truly does suck at season's end, time for a blockbuster trade, if not it's time to build the O line and keep eyes open for a talented guy to work in.

Blockbuster trade? What do we have to offer in a blockbuster trade? The #1 overall? NOBODY's taken that bait lately. IMHO, Quinn's done in Cleveland- trade him now to the Dolphins- Pennington is out for the year, and it eliminates the qb controversy.

Yeah, DA will probably get the rest of the year to show he can regain his ProBowl form, and if he doesn't, it will send Mangini out the door for a mega- screw up.

Blockbuster was probably a strong word, but put together a package deal for a decent Qb from a team that has an excess, or pluck a middle range starter from another team and work had to build the line in front of him, etc.

  • D&S what you suggest is obvious.

What you seem to be blinded by is faith that somehow the player that makes you a Browns fan will after, what, 9 years of college/NFL experience all of a sudden...

... stop making really poor decisions ...

... get NFL accurate on short passes ...

... develop NFL average mobility/athleticism for a QB (i.e., not falling down in the pocket) ...

... stop looking confused/tentative/lost/whatever in pressure/2 minute situations.

I'd love nothing more than for this to happen especially with the apparent Quinn flame out. Call me zany, but I have some concerns and think its far more likely that we don't have our QB on the roster.

if you want Anderson soak up the glory, then he eats the blame as well.

He took a 4 win team to 10-6 and then led it back to 4 wins again.

Based on his most recent body of work, he blows worse than Quinn. Or are we going to blame the 'team' for Anderson's suck?
