  • This exchange between McShay and Meunch is fantastic. I admit, I'm pretty intrigued about Alabama's Ty Simpson. I went from not knowing who he was back in September to "Man, this kid sounds fantastic" now, but there's that ENORMOUS caveat: He's got virtually NO starting experience.

  • Arch Manning got hurt late in their big game vs Mississippi State.

    https://www.foxnews.com/sports/arch-manning-hurt-during-texas-dramatic-comeback-win-over-mississippi-state

"Prior to the injury, Manning led the Longhorns (6-2, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) back from a 17-point, fourth-quarter deficit, completing 29 of 46 passes for 346 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, while rushing for a touchdown.

Manning previously faced criticism for a subpar performance against Kentucky last week, in what has been a polarizing season for the prized quarterback.

as  of now all the qb's kinda fucking suck and as of now i believe we will have a top 5 pick and the other in the top 15, I would like to see us trade back off the top 5 pick where i believe you could still get a quality ot  (Fano Utah ?) and use the other pick on a Buckeye in Tate, cause face it you fucking dimwits this qb class Blows (sure it could change) but we are so  far behind the8 ball because of haslim and the trade for #4 it is gonna take at least 2 more years of hopefully good drafts to get on track,Build the team up then find a qb

    You might not be wrong.

I kind of feel like taking a QB in this draft (with the possible exception of Mendoza) in the first round would either be a stretch (with guys like Klubnick, Nessemeier, etc) or a huge leap of faith with talented but insanely inexperienced guys (with guys like Moore, Sellers and Simpson).

I mean I get you and others and i understand that we fucking suck on offense, But i have always been in the mind set that you build up your team then get a QB, someone like a Gabrial can hold down the fort until that time comes

I think you can do both at the same time, but only if a QB is available that fits what you want out of a QB and is worth the pick you'd take him at. I don't want to take a QB just because you need one, which is why I was so adamant about the Browns not taking Shedeur Sanders at the top of the first round last draft.

Drafting QBs has always been a very difficult endeavor, and I think it might be the hardest it ever has been because of the offenses QBs run now in high school and college.

If the Browns top three picks (the two first rounders and the second rounder that should be a top 40 pick) end up being a OTackle, Wide Receiver and another non QB offensive player (hell, maybe even another tackle or WR) so be it. I won't complain.

There is no fort holding with Gabriel. Today He had time and stunk.  He can’t push the ball downfield. We are the easiest team that I’ve seen in a long time in the NFL to defend.

We have the worst WR unit in the league and Flacco doing what he is doing in Cincy proves that. Our best WR is a rookie TE.

If the second coming of Joe Thomas is there in the top 5 I’d probably pull the trigger.  I don’t believe that is Fano.

QB and then Carnell Tate, Tackle in the second and I’d find the other tackle in the offseason with that 3rd round pick (Trade). That addresses the major wounds we have on offense.  You may actually see Judkins perform really well with this setup too.

we will get it right eventually on this side and the defense will be on its last legs and old.

    Go Buckeyes

So here's the million dollar question if you consider what this QB class probably looks like:

Who is this QB you'd take with the Browns first pick in the first round? There's possibly Mendoza, then? And I don't think the Browns are going to be drafting #1 or even #2 this coming draft.

I'll give you a Dollar $tore answer.....draft offensive linemen and another stud LB.

PS- how did Shedeur hurt his back? Today would have been a perfect opportunity for him to play. The Gabriel thing isn't working IMHO, I realize it's only been a few games.

There better be at least two OLinemen in the upcoming draft, and I'd love to get another stud LB to complement Carson Krautbacker.

Not sure about Sanders, it seemed to happen on Thursday(?). I'm ready for him to play when he's ready to play. I want to see him play this year, but I don't want to rush him. I want to see him when he has a chance to actually play well.

For him to play well.  He needs way better players and coaches around him.

    You know what I mean.

For him to be comfortable enough that he actually has some concept of the play design, etc. I don't want him going out there and being completely overwhelmed because he's nowhere ready to play in the NFL.

I am not assuming it is just Mendoza.  I think there is some football left to evaluate what is available - thankfully with this playoff you see more of the prospects play good competition.

Example: Mendoza against Patricia and against talent better than his own.  Maybe Simpson in the same spot.

    Maivia against Iowa

    Nussmeier against Bama.

    Dante Moore Oregon playoff run.

and then meeting with these guys and putting their mental ability to the test l.

Id have a hard time taking Fano because we need a tackle if we find someone suitable at QB.

I said it last year don’t pick a QB because you need one at #2.  We were also staring at Shedur and Dart.  If it’s just Mendoza and we can’t get him - I’m more inclined to stay away from the position again.

But I tend to think this group is little better.  If I’m being homer shoot me but if we want to wait Julian Sayin looks the part accuracy release and movement in the pocket.

  • What I'd like to see is hitting the oline early then finding a decent QB in round 2 or 3.

However, whenever the draft rolls up so does the QB hype and we do need one.

In a perfect world the Browns first three draft picks would be a QB, OTackle and Wide Receiver in no certain order.

You are right about the QB hype train, but IMO beyond Mendoza the only guys that could get pushed up to the top of the first rounds are guys like Dante Moore of Oregon, Ty Simpson of Alabama and LaNorris Sellers of South Carolina.

Those three guys combined will have about 60 college starts at the end of the season, with Sellers having the most with somewhere in the mid 20s. I know Todd McShay has said that 35 starts seems to be what you want at a minimum.

There isn't any way Cade Klubnik (Clemson) or Garrett Nessmeier (LSU) are getting up that high into the first round. They are most likely Day 2 (Rounds 2/3) guys. Drew Allar from Penn State might fall into Day 3 at this point.

  • If the only 2 sure QB's in this draft [mendoza, simpson] are off the board before the Browns pick, I have a hard time passing up Arvell Reese in the top5.  Sometimes you have to pick the most talented player.. he is going to be a many-time all-pro, and just like Micah Parsons he can start today at both LB and edge rusher.  Clips of him fucking up 300# OL are not safe for work.

  • Don't look now but Arch Manning is starting to look like the QB everyone was expecting him to be. Against a pretty decent Vandy defense he went 25 of 33 for 328 yds and 3 TDs with O ints. 2nd good game in a row. Keep an eye on him after a bye week when they play at #5 Georgia. Then we'll know if he's worth a top pick.

    Maybe in the 2027 Draft.

I don't want to use a top 5 pick on a QB with less than 20 college starts if he would be foolish and come out after this season.

    Reese is a beast.

I can't believe how well the Buckeyes defense has played this year. Yes, the schedule hasn't been daunting, especially with Texas and Penn State underperforming this season, but considering the amount of starters the Buckeyes had to replace, wow.

And Knowles leaving was a blessing in disguise.

  • McCarthy was assumed to be much more sure thing than basically anyone 2026, and all the questions are being asked about him now.  IMHO it's all Sayin in 2027 -- so just pure BPA in 2026.

If the first two rounds are a top OT, whatever top D prospect falls and best remaining OL at the top of rd2, that's a win and hopefully all will be starters.  Currently [per NFL.com] it's #6 and #20 in rd1.

FWIW, the questions never stopped about Darnold until he went to a place where success was possible.  Now, he's at the 2nd place where success is possible.  This is really McCarthy's 1st year so there will be growing pains in and around injury.  I don't know if he'll be what they wanted or not - but to make any conclusions just yet are premature imo.  Once upon a time Tampa was the place where guys like Steve Young & Doug Williams were labelled busts until one was traded to Bill Walsh and the other was traded to Joe Gibbs.  Those bust labels disintegrated.
