Getting To Know the 2026 WR Draft Class

The Browns Board

  • So this gentleman has them ranked at this point of the season:

    1. Jordyn Tyson, Arizona State
    2. Makai Lemon, USC
    3. Carnell Tate, Ohio State
    4. Chris Bell, Louisville
    5. Denzel Boston, Washington
    6. Germie Bernard, Alabama
    7. Chris Brazzell II, Tennessee
    8. Omar Cooper Jr, Indiana
    9. KC Concepcion, Texas A&M
    10. Elijah Surratt, Indiana

He thinks the top 3 guys are top 20 overall players, possibly all three could get drafted in the top 10.

@texasag1969 Concepcion in the one game I watched of his (vs LSU) jumped out to me as a real playmaker, but his drop rate is kind of high. What's his deal, yo?

@ibleedbrown I know you have sung the praises of Surratt, but this gentleman's description of him almost makes him sound like David Bell, who was a highly productive college player at Purdue but struggled in the NFL because he couldn't create separation. What say you, Fuzzy Britches?

Excellent 3-5th rounder IMO. Has great ability to run proper routes and lots of wiggle after the catch. Good to run back punts and KOs. And he's not slow as you may have noticed in the LSU game. He gets open in one to one coverage. Let's see how he does the rest of the year.

Well this guy does have him as a top 10 receiver on his list, which would likely put him around the 3rd or 4th round in the draft. That’s about where l figured he might get picked, and around where David Bell was drafted.

I’m no expert football player evaluator but l occasionally play one on the internet. I like Sarratt’s game. I don’t know if he’s a speedy guy that will stretch the field, but l think he’s got good hands and the mojo to make contested catches, and he’s got some nifty juke moves to YAC it up.

If the Browns do actually draft Mendoza it might not be a bad idea to draft a familiar set of hands a few rounds later.

Vertical speed gets far more credit than change of direction.  A lot of guys could beat Jerry Rice in a straight ahead foot race; but it sure seemed like corners could cover them a lot easier than the could cover Jerry Rice.  When Stefanski gets fired - I sure hope the replacement has a better playbook that includes more change of direction.  It seems like every time I've seen a commentator freeze frame what the QB sees downfield - it's nothing but 4 straight ahead routes all parallel to each other making life easy on the secondary covering them.  I've seen about 3 of these freeze frames.  We keep hearing the problem is the play-calling; but it's really the design of a passing game from a HC that only had NFL experience in Minnesota prior to Cleveland.  Having said that, as someone already mentioned as well as I have in the past  - when he was the OC in Minnesota they had to hire Gary Kubiak as a consultant to get there offense out of a funk.

IMO receiving routes in a passing tree should set up an alternate or counter route or it makes life on the pitch and catch personnel far tougher than it needs to be for the players and the guy calling the plays (or in Stefanski's case - his own playbook keeping himself in checkmate).

EDIT: Back to the change of direction thing above.  @dutch-oven per your question to IBB regarding Sarratt's game.  I share IBB's enthusiasm about Sarratt's game and he's mentioned some of what I'm going to say.  This isn't about his straight ahead speed as much as it is about his change of direction, route precision and reliability for his passer, and enjoys success when he has to fight for a well contested pass.  He reminds me of Brian Brennan with the frequency to get open and reliable hands to make the catch anywhere. I think he's got a bigger/stronger frame than Brennan though.

Wow!  It sure would be nice to see at least 1 of our WRs doing something like that.  Maybe a healthy Tillman? After a great season last year - Jerry Jeudy showed up with the dropsies this year.  Do they have a vaccine for dropsies?

Yes, but the line to get it starts away from passes across the middle heading towards a LB. ?‍?

And we get to play against him at A&M next week. My brother comes into town from Colorado and I'm taking him to the game. If we lose and go 9-1 he gets banned for life. LOL!?

In the huddle...at the end of every pass play call...you say, "And Nyck, you go long.  If everyone's covered I'll heave it out to ya and you jump up and catch it."  🙂

  • Dutch you asked about Concepcion. QB Reed read the D, changed the play and flipped this screen to Concepcion. He did the rest.

Thanks Syd!  USC is quietly putting together a good season; and they beat Michigan.

  • Here's a guy I follow every once in a while going over another guy's from PFF mock draft...

Spoiler alert: Browns get themselves a WR and and a Tackle in Round 1.

Yeah, I like this guy's research.  He was the guy you shared earlier this year getting us REAL acquainted with the WRs and OTackles.  I don't know if you caught it but after he gave the Browns Utah's LT Caleb Lomu - he realized he never gave anyone Utah's RT Spencer Fano.  I watched 2 Utah games at the end of the year.  I was impressed with both guys.  Lomu pleasantly surprised me with how good his footwork/agility was for his build.  He's also tenacious with staying with his block as long as necessary or hustling to the next tier when applicable.  Fano was exactly the same at staying with his block.  That something we saw very little of from either of our tackles on the edges in Cleveland this year.  Should be interesting.

  • We play Arizona State next year in addition to our expanded to 9 game SEC matchups. Thank goodness they lose the best WR to the pros and there is speculation about their QB going into the portal or declaring for the draft. Either way it appears he's not coming back to ASU. Last year he took them to the CF Playoffs. This year he went out for the season after 7 games.

My buddy who I mentioned the other day regarding the Thomas/Garrett question I posed really likes Caleb Lomu too - but he's a redshirt sophomore. It will be interesting to see if he comes out.

2 year starter speculated by many to be the 1st LT off the board in the 2027 draft if he waits.  Having said this, he's also being projected in round 1 in 2026 especially due to the limited supply for the demand of such an important position. I've seen Miami's potential 1st round draft prospect (Tackle) Francis Mauigoa being mentioned as a possible OG at the next level similar to Bitonio. This was from the guy that ranked Mauigoa as the #1 Tackle in the list of OTackles he rated/ranked/narrated earlier this year that you shared with us I'll re-attach below (very well done btw).  Mauigoa looks like Lomu's biggest competition in round 1 if Lomu comes out this year IMO; and I hope he does considering 2 years of starting under his belt already. The list below has Proctor (Bama) & Goolsby (Texas) ranked slightly higher (most likely because they're both very good run blockers while their pass pro needs work and polish).  I couldn't believe how well Lomu moved laterally in pass pro. He's also great at pulling to either side of the formation.  Keep in mind though, my observations are limited to Utah's last 2 games.  Loved Spencer Fano too; but he's a RT.  Worth noting, some of the guys on the list below could be OGs and at the end the narrator says he feels like it's a weak Tackle class.

Well here's NFL draft buzz's rankings of OT:

    image.png.bb2674c8fd86f489d287d396dc3a3d6f.png

FWIW, Proctor is a big guy but he moved like a department store mannequin against Georgia last week.  1 Jed Wills from that program was enough; but we also got to see Cam Robinson looking quite the same in pass pro this year.  Am I being fair?  Well if we're talking 1st round - it isn't about being fair as much as it is being accurate.  Dunker and World seem like intriguing prospects.  The write-up on Francis Mauigoa in this research doesn't mention OG.  I'll link the whole thing here.
