We have to draft both.  Early indications are the WR might have to be the 1st one of the two picked.

The supply of elite LTs are really small for a pretty big demand of teams needing LTs.  If you wait - you could be stuck watching #68 Cam Robinson again next year. He was a 2nd round LT out of Bama on another year when the elite LTs went fast.  See the drop-off?  You can't screw around here if you ever want to protect the edges

Some knuckleheads keep listing guys playing RT this year as LTs like Francis Mauigoa (Miami), Spencer Fano (Utah), Gennings Dunker (Iowa).  If their college teams don't trust them as LTs why should an NFL team? That said, I'd love to have anyone of them as fill our other huge need as a RT.

Here's an example of guys that played RT except for Proctor (who will probably be a RT in the NFL or the next Nate Newton at RG). I'm starting to think Proctor will be a RT or RG but I could be wrong about that.

  • It's a nicer draft for wr's than OT.

but I couldn't pass on Tate.

and with the later pick, I think Trevor Goosby, OT, would

be a great pick at ....28?

I think Mauigoa is a terrific pick, but not with the first pick - too high, and he won't be there past the middle of the first round, I think.

and I don't see a trade down at all.

Please tell me there's people there that are worth the high pick.

NE drafted LSU LT Will Campbell at #4 overall this year.  LT is one of the most important positions on an offense aside from QB - when you can't protect the edges you only win 3 games in 2024 and 4 or 5 games in 2025-26.

The 1 thing worrying people is Spencer Fano (Utah) and Francis Mauigoa (Miami) only played RT this year for their current teams.  That said, many thought Tristan Wirfs was strictly a RT before TB switched him to LT and he made Pro Bowls at both positions (and Orlando Brown before that with a sum of 4 Pro Bowls combining seasons at LT & RT). The GOOD NEWS is Caleb Lomu (Utah) is a LT with ideal footwork/agility/lateral movement starting as a Fresh & Soph Redshirt as well as Trevor Goosby (Texas) who started for 2 years at RT before starting this year at LT are great prospects. Isaiah World (Oregon) is a talented LT (transferred from Nevada) projecting to go in round 1 with experience a RT as well. Lomu or Goosby or World would justify using our 1st pick on them. The next pick we can take a WR or RT and then about 7 slots later we can take a very good player at the position we didn't draft near the end of round 1.

I'm not as excited about LT Kadyn Proctor (Alabama) at 374 lbs and doesn't move well laterally - the last 2 LTs we had most recently that played at Bama are Jed Wills & Cam Robinson.  Proctor is a good run blocker - but that OL at Bama was very disappointing.  If you watched Bama vrs Indiana in the Playoffs or Bama vrs Georgia in the SEC Championship Game - you know what I'm talking about.

After Lomu and Goosby are drafted -

Yes I agree, I was wanting to hit the OL last year but not complaining about with what we did.

Question, can we grab someone that can temporarily slide over to LT for '26 if there are any true LTs worth taking in '27?

Question hinges on whether we think we can make a deep run in the play offs next year. If not then why not have a 2 year plan?

IMO, everybody's too hung up on the monetary value of the draft pick.  To me, the draft is like going to the store.  Replenishing supplies.

I tell Mrs. Wife I'm going to the department store to buy a pair of shoes.  I come back and Mrs. Wife asks, Where's your new shoes?  And I tell her that nobody would trade with me so I had to buy another pair of gloves.  But they're really good gloves dear.

Take the player that you need.  It'll be called a reach if the guy sucks...but the guy still would've sucked if you were able to trade down and get him at what would be perceived as 'good value'.   Nobody sees Schwesinger as a reach anymore.  He went right in for JOK.

Obviously, if the position of urgent need is just head and shoulders below everyone else, then ya can't do it.  But you can still usually find someone that fills some sort of need.

Of course when your roster is fairly well stocked you can be much more BPA to add cream to the crop.  But first you've gotta get shit fixed.

I disagree on Tate. He is nothing without Smith taking all the heat off him. Unimpressive against Miami's DBs. I just don't see the NFL speed for a #1 WR, which is what we really need.

Get Tate late 2nd round.. Could be a good possession chain mover type in right offense...

    Great questions!

I think of 2 guys that made the transition; BUT both made a couple Pro Bowls at RT first - Orlando Brown Jr (Ravens) & Tristan Wirfs (Bucs).  Bringing this closer to home - the Browns tried this with Alabama's Jed Wills as a rookie. For a little while (rookie year) - it looked like it was working as that was clearly his best season here.  That was the 2020 season where the Browns also signed FA - RT Jack Conklin (who stayed healthy for the full season).  The Browns made the playoffs and won their 1st post season game making it appear we had a nice future with these 2 guys protecting the edges. The very next year it all changed as both had nagging injuries where they missed games or attempted to play through the injuries without any consistent success.  The following year, rinse and repeat with the same the next year and so on. Without getting too deep into cause and effect for each guy - timing is everything as they say.

Just from that experience here, I hope we land a guy that played LT with success (but doesn't have all his best work in the rear view mirror) with our 1st pick.  There can't possibly be a bigger need for this team (when the blind side of QB counts on his protection).  Smart organizations make sure they try to protect their QB investment as best as they can (ie; NE drafting LT Will Campbell at #4 overall in 2025).

Anyway, I think there's a good volume of RTs where we can land one with either our 2nd 1st round pick or in the top 5 picks of the 2nd round.  Whatever one of those we don't spend on a RT we can spend on a very talented WR. A round or 2 later, we may also have to draft an OG if Teller leaves or Bitonio retires or both...

The second year, we add depth to our line.  It's that decimated today unfortunately... We can also use a later round this year or maybe look for veteran FAs. For example, former Chicago Bear - Teven Jenkins has filled in admirably at Guard for us when we've needed him.

You may be right. The pros are a major step up, and there is talk of him not being explosive in his cuts, getting off the los in the pros. But every single player that comes out in the nfl draft has "negatives" in their draft profile, unless there is one I missed.....he's supposed to run a 4.6. Tyson is explosive, runs 4.5, but has injuries in his past... down the list though, there is Chris Bell and other wr's, with track speed and serious skills.

I still wonder how you pass on Caleb Downs with their first pick, the wr, except we desperately have to fix the oline, except.....

    dammit. This draft is crazy.

I love Downs, but he seems more like a luxury pick at this point, given our glaring needs at WR and OL. With that being said, Tyson isn't just an explosive receiver. He can play in the X,Y and Z role. Something we haven't had in a long time. There is also a very good chance Tate drops in the late 1st.

And like Flugel stated, guys like Lomu will be available late 1st/early 2nd for our OLine.

When the trade happened I thought there was a good shot at having two top ten picks.

  • Unless I’m mistaken, the Browns are drafting 6-7 (insert my kids running around like lunatics) depending on the outcome of the Commanders.

Assuming the Jets and Raiders are going Mendoza and Moore, there’s clearly not a 3rd QB worth taking in the top 10. We are however still in a prime position to get an elite OT or WR prospect.

If the prevailing rumors are true that Stefanski might be taking the long walk off a short pier with Berry safe, I’d be pretty surprised if any serious HC candidate signs up for Sanders. I could be wrong, but if the brass goes into that process with “Shadeur is our guy” I don’t think the top candidates are hitching that wagon.

  • Well due to the Raiders results the last two weeks if we had lost both our games we'd have had the #1 pick but instead we're at #6.....

  • Thanks to Washington we pick 6th.

I knew that our Jaguars pick was not going to be very high.  They had a difficult year in '24 because they didn't have their QB.  It's just like the Chiefs this year.

However Travis Hunter has been a major disappointment thus far. Played in 7 games with offensive 1 TD and 1 fumble. Defense zero ints. We made a good trade. Graham, Judkins, Sampson and this year the Jags 1st for Hunter,  RB Tuten and S Lane III. Anyone we take in the 1st from them is a bonus IMO.

Cleveland traded the second overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, as well as the 104th overall pick in the fourth round and 200th overall pick in the sixth round to Jacksonville in exchange for the fifth overall pick in the first round, the 36th overall pick in the second round and 126th overall pick in the fourth round. They also received a 2026 first-round pick.
