  • The Miami/Ole Miss game started off slow but turned into a barnburner. Fun game, Miami pulled it out. Beck looked sharp down the stretch.

I recall he was a top QB prospect, and then he wasn’t, but now his stock is rising again.

Did a search on him and this story popped up.

You may be right. The pros are a major step up, and there is talk of him not being explosive in his cuts, getting off the los in the pros. But every single player that comes out in the nfl draft has "negatives" in their draft profile, unless there is one I missed.....he's supposed to run a 4.6. Tyson is explosive, runs 4.5, but has injuries in his past... down the list though, there is Chris Bell and other wr's, with track speed and serious skills.

I still wonder how you pass on Caleb Downs with their first pick, the wr, except we desperately have to fix the oline, except.....

    dammit. This draft is crazy.

I love Downs, but he seems more like a luxury pick at this point, given our glaring needs at WR and OL. With that being said, Tyson isn't just an explosive receiver. He can play in the X,Y and Z role. Something we haven't had in a long time. There is also a very good chance Tate drops in the late 1st.

And like Flugel stated, guys like Lomu will be available late 1st/early 2nd for our OLine.

It's a tight rope with LT though because when I'm looking at all these lists of prospects - they're listing guys like Fano, Mauigoa, and Dunker as LTs and none of them played LT this year (for reasons their coaching staffs knew best).  If you need the prospect offering the best blind side protection for QB - there's a lot of teams needing this that will go for it in round 1 (and they may be gone by the time we get to the draft pick from the Jax trade).  If the Browns want to give their young QB a true evaluation - they gotta get this protection to be legit and reliable.  It's a gigantic dynamic for the passing game.

This draft has some good LTs but the limited supply for the big demand will have many labelling it a weak OTackle draft.  It can be as strong or weak for the Browns as the FO chooses to make it.  The scary thing is I don't have a lot of faith in Andrew Berry's ability to build the OL via the draft.  He's had 1 good draft where all the stars and planets aligned for once; but he's also a huge reason our OL and WR positions are unacceptable.

  • LT/RT....who cares.  We need both.

So, if we are drafting for need, which Berry indicated we will since he said there would be a high concentration on the offensive side, I take the best player available.  If it is a RT, take him.

And every time they win they keep A&M looking like top 10 since they beat us by 7 only when the 30+ MPH winds died down late 4th Q. 3-3 score until the end. They had it 1st when the winds abated according to my son who was there. He even remarked that whoever figured out first that the winds had died down would win the game. Miami 10-3 with an endzone interception keeping us from tying as time ran out.

Needed to be said!  Thank you!  LT 1st, RT next (taking care of round 1) & WR (at the 6th slot in round 2).

There's going to be some GREAT WRs in rounds 2 &3.  Indiana's Elijah Sarratt may not be blazing; but he's open 24/7 from killer good route precision. Even better, when/if well covered - he reminds my of Cris Carter who had countless highlight reel catches when well covered.  Some guys can do that - others can't. He can! I learned last year why @ibleedbrownwas quick to like him enough to mention in here in 2024. He could go as late as round 3 with everyone wanting speed.  Anthony Schwartz cured me with how much that 1 facet means + we have Isaiah Bond returning with experience. Then in round 3 we can go back to OL and get ourselves an OG.  I know this isn't football fans' version of football Big Sexy - BUT the OL had a lot of negligent irresponsibility from GM Andrew Berry making it an absolute MUST here in 2026.  I'm just Cliff Clavin delivering the mail here.

Just remember, if the QB doesn't have time to throw deep -it ain't gonna happen as often as needed to stretch defenses.

Okay, you guys get a nice break from my over-caffeinated takes until Monday or Tuesday.  Enjoy the games & have a great weekend!!!

  • You don’t take a LT/RT at 6 if they all grade out outside the Top 15 recall the Jed Wills situation.

Well, you don't draft Wills even if you trade down to #20.

For me, if you've got a WR or OT rated anywhere near  where you're picking, then take him.  IMO, you're job is to fix shit.  And with WR & OL being sooooo bad, selecting anyone else would have to be a sure fire Blue Chipper.

This is in my mind as well. If the BPA is a ringer on defense, l say go for it.

If you can never be fired, then sure.  But if you're Andrew Berry, and dangling by a thread, you know you've got to come up with WINS for next year.  Not necessarily more accolades for the defense.

Yes, if there's a  'ringer'  (blue chipper)  sitting there than ya probably gotta pick him, but you better have a plan for the OL & WR's....like trading back into the action.  And it all depends on what you were able to accomplish in FA.

  • At this point, any improvement to offense should also improve the defense.

You take the BEST Tackle; and Jed Wills was NOT the best Tackle at #10 overall where the Berry selected him. Wirfs was the best OTackle and Tampa drafted him at #13 overall because of Berry's blunder.  Wirfs has made Pro Bowls at RT before making Pro Bowls at LT. I think he's also been an All Pro 2 or 3 times. Even if just a coincidence - TB has been able to run and pass pretty well since he was drafted. If the Browns drafted Wirfs - LT wouldn't be a an enormous need today...

Not for nothing, the HC where Wirfs played college football (Iowa) is Kirk Ferentz.  Why is this significant?  Ferentz was the Oline Coach for the Browns from 93-95 meaning if Berry knew what he was doing - he should have made it a point to establish a network/opportunity for his scouts at Iowa. Even at the very least, Ferentz would have told him Wirfs had a work ethic that wouldn't allow him to fail.  There's all kinds of things to research about OL prospects that Berry understands like a foreign language.  Ferentz probably would have loved to help given his background with the Browns.  Just a quick interview with Ferentz could get great detail on linemen, TEs, DL, LBers, DBs etc....

We're getting beat because we have the worst OTackles and insufficient talent at WR to compete; so these major NEEDS have to weigh into this here.

Wirfs was a decorated wrestler.  Having Wrestled and coached wrestling they all have freakish balance and could utilize leverage like no one else.  Thats all we needed to know he would be athletic and strong enough regardless of his size.  Wrestling is a cheat code along the line of scrimmage.  If we want to find a diamond in the rough find football players that did something on the wrestling mat.  Wirfs was a State Champion in Iowa, Iowa has multiple classes but it is Top 6-8 state for HS wrestling consistently. He probably could have AA in D1 wrestling

Scouting and grades really mean something at 6.  You don’t select a guy that can develop into a starter at 6 - you select pro bowl potential and if the tackles are “starter” types you trade back or you select BPA.  Having said that this Miami tackle is playing really well in the playoff if he’s BPA you take him

...and if you draft a RT, let him play RT, ditto if it's a LT.

It's one mistake the Browns have done a few times.

I rarely disagree with you  - BUT this is different due to the very limited supply of what the Browns need most. But, let's pretend BPA is the only way to go at #6 and pretend it's a TE so we take him.  Now there isn't a LT remaining that can help us due to such a limited supply that won't last until the last 2 or 3 picks of round 1. Consequently we're stuck on park at LT; while TE was already a strength. You know this.  I don't care about Wirfs' wrestling background nearly as much as I care about the NFL training he got in Kirk Ferentz's football program at Iowa.  You're not supposed to draft guys with best football played in the rear view mirror - you're supposed to draft them for an ability to take their prep and training to a higher level over the next 5-10 years. Here's what Wirfs accomplished at Iowa to set up the success in Tampa per cut and paste below:

    image.png.3091d8be630d33fbdf7b2cf0c95f8d65.png

Next let's see how the NFL Team that the Browns gift wrapped him to in Tampa did as a result while Jed Wills is hoping desperate NFL team wants him>

I'm pretty confident saying the Browns could use a LT like this especially when Cam Robinson #68 or Dawand Jones are the alternatives.

His current team was more comfortable playing him at RT which says all that it needs to. Fano is a RT as well as is Iowa's Gennings Dunker.  I've posted there's been lot RTs being listed as LTs; which means the supply isn't nearly as big as we'd like/need it to be for the big demand of teams needing LTs.  In a perfect world, I could be guaranteed we'll land Utah's LT Caleb Lomu with our 2nd first round pick somewhere between #29 & 32 overall.  But we're CLEVELAND BROWNS fans so perfect rarely ever applies to us.  Once we get 2 OTackles and 1 elite WR in the house by the time we're done with round 2 - I'm all about BPA for the rest of our draft.
