The recognition for DE Myles Garrett's historic season continues.
The Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) announced Garrett as their 2025 Defensive Player of the Year on Wednesday. This is the second time Garrett has won the award from the PFWA, first earning the honor in 2023. He also has both Browns' honors since the award was instituted in 1992 and is the 14th defensive end to earn the PFWA Defensive Player of the Year honor.
Garrett made history throughout the season, capping off the year by setting the NFL single-season sack record in Week 18 with his 23rd sack. He also broke the Browns single-season sack record that he set in 2021 and tied in 2022. He became the first player since 1982 to record 12 sacks in six consecutive seasons when he recorded his 12th sack of the season in Week 11, as well set the record for the most sacks by a player under the age of 30, surpassing Reggie White. He is also the first player in NFL history to record at least 14 sacks in four consecutive seasons.
"When you watch him in the preseason, it was probably the most dominant preseason he's ever had," defensive line coach Jacques Cesaire said in December 2025. "I mean, he didn't lose one one-on-one rep, and that goes for the joint practices and our practices. He had a singular focus on just dominating every play, and you saw that throughout the year. So, I'm happy with what he's done and how he's developed as a football player. […] That guy works so hard to continue to develop and be the most dominant defensive player that I think we've ever seen."
Garrett had three games this season with at least three sacks, with his best game of the season against the Patriots in Week 8 with five sacks. His five sacks in Week 8 not only set a season-high, but also broke his own Browns' record for the most sacks in a game, as well as were the most sacks by an NFL player in a game this season. Garrett recorded at least a half of a sack in nine straight games, the longest streak of his career, and 12 total games.
In addition to his 23 sacks, Garrett led the league with 33 tackles for loss during the regular season – and set a career high in tackles for loss. His 33 tackles for loss are also the second-most by a player in a single season since 2000, trailing only J.J. Watt who totaled 39 tackles for loss in 2012. Garrett added 60 tackles and 39 quarterback hits, as well as one pass defensed and three forced fumbles.
"He's improved his run defense so much since I've been here. The way he's rushing is amazing. And I just, it's a special year for him as far as statistically," Cesaire said in December 2025. "You can't just overlook what he's done this whole entire year."
Earlier in the week, Garrett was also unanimously voted into the PFWA’s All-NFL team and All-AFC team. Garrett was named All-NFL for the sixth time overall – all consecutive from 2020-25, the longest current streak among active players. The streak ties him with Pro Football Hall of Famer Reggie White (1987-92) for the most consecutive first team All-NFL selections at the defensive end position in PFWA award history.

He’s gonna need a bigger mantle.

Be careful, there's 1 or 2 guys in here that worry about TJ Watts' feelings every time this happens.

I don't know about that, but notch another up for me for identifying this guy really early as a "must get" for the Browns. Like either after his freshman or sophomore year at Texas A&M. That should get me permanently off the hook on my hopes for JFF. But in this case I knew Myles's brother had messed up a pro sports career due to drugs and it made Myles a complete teatotaler. Never done a drug or had a drink.

I love Myles. And I'm very happy for him. But he did kinda' put us all through hell last year about how he wanted out and wanted a ring. I think it'd be fair to remind him that he stayed here with Schwartz as DC, with good CB's, LB'ers that played well AND lights out, and he had some pretty decent helpers on the DLine. He didn't do it all by himself and it may not have happened for him elsewhere...even as really good as he is.

I pull no weight around here so this is worth what you're paying for it, but you get the good to go from me!

You think every Texas A&M player is a must-get for the Browns! ?

Almost as many per BB member who thinks Ohio State players are also must-gets. But I'm a close second to each. ??

Second NFL Defensive Player of the Year for the overrated Zumba instructor?
Don't they know TJ Watt is still playing?
-
Check out Myles Garrett in O-town giving me an excuse to cock walk for my undefeated Miami Redhawks bball team. Easily the most exciting season since the Szczerbiak years. I wish l liked basketball more…
Redhawks are 30-0. Miami’s last game is this Friday against the OU Bobcats. Will Myles be there?
Athens is admittedly a prettier campus than Oxford.
-
Love and honor, Redhawks baby.
-
They let overrated Zumba instructors wear the gold shield on their uniforms?
T.J. Watt must be beside himself in rage.

...and he thought OLinemen were just fat-asses and any ol' fat-ass would do. We've demonstrated how that's not true.
Who knows, Myles might get some rookie help on the other side...depending on how the first five picks of the draft go....

Thank you for clearing that up Todd and Andrew. "Myles is a career Brown" He walks directly from his Browns home field to Canton, next to Joe Thomas. You just can't trade away the best player you'll ever have at a position. It's a betrayal to the player who worked so hard to be the best (whether the player would like a trade to get a ring or not). And it's a betrayal to the fans. He's all we've got. He's what we can hang our hats on.
If a fan of another team wants to wear a Myles Garrett jersey, it's going to have to be in brown, white or orange.

No doubt about it. He's the gotta-see here. This was a 5-12 team where we saw our guys on Defense still having fun teaming up together, exchanging high 5s and being a part of Myles' big season. It's nice to see talented rookies like DT Mason Graham and LB Cason Schwesinger excited they're here to be part of what Myles is accomplishing and what this defense is on the verge of becoming...

I have been an advocate of a Browns rebuild, and opposed to what looks like the current maintaining of the status quo. Myles is the greatest asset we have. Keeping him while getting ever closer to his inevitable decline locks the Browns deeper into that status quo.
The offer to let him go would need to be otherworldly, and it is uncertain we would get that. But if otherworldly is on the table, I would jump at the chance.

Some team may believe they are a MG away from a SB title and willing to fork over a ransom to bring him in.

I'm on record that this team is being built for Brookpark, which opens in four seasons.
You have to wonder how much gas would be in Myles' tank at that point.
If someone offered Berry a Godfather offer, he'd be an idiot not to listen.
