BTW, I know Baker Mayfield had his own male cheerleader section in here the last couple years BUT what QB from the 2018 Draft Class is the 1st to lead his team to the Super Bowl?   Baker Mayfield? No; Josh Allen? No; Lamar Jackson? No; Sam Darnold? YES!    No more Darnold Duck!  No more attempt to read a defense intercepted by seeing ghosts!  No more getting killed on crappy teams like the Jets, Carolina and where-ever else the poor guy was sentenced to.

In fact, Shedeur Sanders has received a lot of pre-mature evaluations with the current WR Corps & OTackles.  Let's get him talent that makes success possible for him the way Minnesota & Seattle had in place for Darnold.

I'm fairly certain there were two QBs Tour and I agreed upon as best QBs in that class. One was Sam Darnold and the other was cough, choke, gag, wretch, ?Josh Rosen. Oh well, 50% is a pretty good completion %age on this BB.

And I agree that Darnold needed the right place with the right supporting cast. Seattle gives him that plus the great D that SB winners require. Should be a great SB this year since both QBs have all that.

Once upon a time, I had Sam Darnold as my 1A and Baker Mayfield as my 1B pre-draft and admitted I kept flipping back and forth between them for who was 1A.  A lot of that was because I thought the Browns were definitely drafting Baker 1st; and because I had seen more of Baker's college football games with Oklahoma. Whether I got both right or just 1 or whatever - it doesn't change the reality that I wasn't born to peg NFL QB prospects right.

If anyone thinks I'm BSing (and why not think that after the fact here) you can archive old posts from the pre-draft of 2018 in the months leading up to the draft.  You just can't reply to them any more.  It wasn't uncommon to see people changing who they felt was best for us at QB as it kept getting closer to the draft.

The BEST part of Darnold finally getting a chance in Minnesota reminds us the organizations taking in QBs they want have a responsibility to protect and surround such investments with the best chance of succeeding and staying healthy. Then look at the sum of Berry & Haslam.  Look at our OTackles & WRs - "go get em Rookie QBs!"

There's no plan here - not even with HC search going on right now.  They have no idea! I say this because when do coaches prefer to hire all their new assistant coaches for 2026 by?  How we coming along with that?  TBD in a few weeks or so right? ?

  • Good for Seattle & their turn-around.

    Re: SEA, coaches & Darnold.

    - The offensive structure has me highly interested in Klint Kubiak now.  (Why a 'K?')

    - Hawks have given Darnold a great supporting cast.  The playcalling has made life easier on him.

    - Credit to Sam for his own focus on improving his QB play.   That windmill throwing motion from his USC days is gone.  He has worked to develop a much more compact and deliberate release that doesn't kill his downfield accuracy.

I still have questions & skepticism on his ability to be the engine that drives the team when the picture isn't painted the way he expects post snap.   But from where he was on the Jets?  It's a complete FarCry from the QB he is now.

  • Pretty wild that it took eight seasons for one of the first round QBs from the 2018 Draft class to get to the Super Bowl, and that it's Sam Darnold that broke the '18 QB class's cherry.

  • Good for Seattle & their turn-around.

And I wonder how much of that improvement comes from Kubiak. I would guess quite a bit since he is the son of Gary Kubiak, John Elways's real coach on the field as his back-up QB. Back in those days you needed eyes to tell you what was going on and could only rely on a good eyes person to tell you rather than video to show you. Kubiak was constantly in his ear between possessions.

  • Jaguars precocious offensive coordinator Greg Udinksi has pulled his name from consideration for the head coach job for the Cleveland Browns.

  • Nobody wants this job.

I've been saying this since Stefanski got fired.

Look at the guys who have been hired as head coach since Haslam bought the team: Chudzinski, Pettine, Jackson, Kitchens and Stefanski.

How many of those guys were getting other head coach vacancy interviews?

  • Looks like the Browns interview process.

What a brutal gauntlet he had.

A big say in how a young QB does is the ownership & FO tandem which often pre-explains what the young QB is sentenced to.  Let's look at where he started off and see the 1st good team he joined wasn't until 2023 that already had a Mr Irrelevant from the 2022 firmly entrenched as a starter because why?  Great Ownership, Ideal GM, Successful Offensive-Minded HC that team-up to frequent playoffs.  The total opposite of what Darnold started off at; but I think we can agree it was a nice stepping stone for great success to be had at Darnold's next 2 teams in Minnesota & Seattle. Here's a cut and paste (below) explaining Darnold's journey his light at the end of the tunnel had a much longer tunnel.  The other extreme is Lamar Jackson's immediate success in Baltimore - I think we can all agree it wasn't because he was the brightest apple in the orchard.  His instant success seemed tougher to beat than the more experience version today.  Therefore, John Harbaugh is working for the Giants today while Dumb and Dumber here probably don't remember or realize we already had former Baltimore OC Todd Monken as an OC here when Freddie Childress was the HC more comfortable with calling the plays himself.

I think the only one out of that list, who was truly looked at by other teams, was Hue Jackson.

I believe he was a pretty hot name that cycle, if I remember right.

Yes.  We should make an effort to stay away from Bengals coaches.

    Oh, and welcome!

Now wait a minute. How can that be at all true when Stefanski immediately landed the Atlanta job. Given what that idiot Berry did to him last offseason with no real change in OL, nor off the top WR, we have fired the wrong guy obviously.

I was meaning when the Browns were looking for a coach.

I can't remember if Stefanski was getting looks from other teams before he signed with the Browns or not. I thought they hired him pretty quickly? I'm at work right now so I can't do much research.

Stefanski interviewed for the Browns HC job in 2019 that went to Freddie Kitchens. He had no other interviews.

After Kitchens was fired, Stefanski interviewed again for the Browns HC job in 2020. He had no other interviews.

I could be wrong as my sources suck. But I believe he is going to take the year off
