"This indicates that Haslam was never comfortable with Shceelhaase and he went against the recommendation of his search committee leader and GM," - @TonyGrossi on the Browns hiring Todd Monken.

That's Jimmuh.  He always knows better than the football people.  He's a PITA.

OK, having said that, Welcome Todd Monken!   You've got a clean slate here.  We wish you all the best and much success!  I'll support you!  But I reserve the right to form opinions as time goes by.  Best of luck and Go Browns!

Apparently I can't use any emoji's today.....even though I just got home from having a long tube stuck up my ass and haven't been at my computer since now.  🙂

Ya know, we can all have our opinions on who should've been hired...and we can voice them, go on record with them, etc.  But we should give the guy a fair shake.  He's our HC and he hasn't done anything wrong yet.

do you think people would be happier with the hire if he was 20 years younger ?

  • Probably.  There seems to be a significant amount of posters here that want a young guy with virtually no experience.  I wanted Schwartz...but at least Monken is experienced.  Although Schwartz is probably gonna be history now.  🙁

haslam is an arrogant slug human being of sick proportions, imho. Is it true haslam picked this hc over the one the search committee wanted?

This hc fire is being criticized a lot already:

    https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/cleveland-browns/news/browns-disaster-why-todd-monken-hire-hc-massive-miss/8abb255f54c6f658b6fc43c7

    https://www.si.com/nfl/browns/onsi/browns-opinion/three-reasons-why-cleveland-browns-coaching-search-failed-01kg319a3k8j

so, not an innovator, all that talent, and monken himself admits he was at fault...

and the Browns don't have the oline, or the wr's, now they won't have Schwartz, who they SHOULD have made head coach,...

arrogant haslam just wanted another kiss ass hc he could own, that is what I think.

the biggest problem, is that some ravens players didn't like Monken. So, haslam hires an OC that even that OC

admits to being the problem with the ratbirds.

       just.....

  • we needed a HC thats been around for awhile, and giving the job to a new guy would not have been fare to the team or fans, so it was either Schwartz or Monken and they went with the offensive guy,, so get the fuck over it

Is Jimmy going to fly solo on hiring the new DC too?    It's like giving a box of matches to a pyromaniac and telling him to be careful.  What could go wrong?  The dumpster fire is stronger than ever in Cleveland.

Best wishes to the new Head Coach Todd Monken - NONE of this is his fault...

Another hire in Cleveland: Browns HC Todd Monken is bringing former Ravens OL coach George Warhop with him to the Browns to coach the same position, per sources.

No worries Syd.  Grossi has always been a shit starter!    I should have known...

  • So they based their whole thing on keeping Schwartz, and lost him anyway?

NO it was down to Monken and Schwartz (so it seems) and they went with the offense coach and i am sure understood they would lose him

  • you know I have said this before, But if they were serious about Schwartz they would have fired Stefanski weeks 8-12 ? and made him the interim coach, why some of you are so shocked is beyond me

I was initially anti on the hire. After listening to Ross Tucker on 92.3 The Fan, I'm more optimistic.

Conference USA Coach of the year after inheriting a winless team.  OC at Georgia, who were known as a defensive team, he got them offense. Did a good job with the dreaded Ratbirds.

Let it play out. Our frustration is the FO. Maybe they got something right for once.

    https://www.si.com/nfl/steelers/onsi/news/pittsburgh-steelers-perfect-head-coach-candidate-nathan-scheelhaase

    "

    Offensive Guru

There are three reasons why Scheelhaase is the best fit for the Steelers. The first is his offensive mind. As the pass-game coordinator with the Rams, he's worked closely with head coach Sean McVay, offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur and star quarterback Matthew Stafford. Together, they've been one of the best aerial attacks in the NFL over the past few seasons.

That type of experience is worth its weight in gold, especially in a head coaching search. Scheelhaase's keen eye and attention to detail have been instrumental in their offensive success, and that's exactly the type of mind the Steelers need running their team.

Scheelhaase also has a history of developing quarterbacks. He was a QB for the University of Illinois and still holds the record for total offensive yards with over 10,000 in his collegiate career.

Aside from himself and helping Stafford sustain his success later in his career, Scheelhaase is also credited with helping develop San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy while at Iowa State University. The Steelers are a team that desperately needs to identify and develop a starting quarterback, and Scheelhaase is the best candidate around to do so."
