  • How many points does it take in OHIO to have you license pulled?

Myles, there is this thing called cruise control.  As Ron Popiel would famously say, "Set it, and forget it".

I absolutely love the adaptive radar cruise control (and the Heads Up Display) in my new Mazda CX-5.  I've got the cruise set to max distance because I don't want the winter chemicals on the street being kicked up on my car.  Bought in June, I put multiple coats of Zaino Show Car polish on it.  It's still shining out there in my driveway.  If it's not real cold after it rains, I'll go out there with a towel and just wipe it down, and the Zaino shine makes it quite reflective.  The color of Platinum Quartz Metallic (like a silver grey) makes it look quite clean.

Northener's, go outside and glide your hand along the car's body surface behind the tires.  It will feel like sandpaper.  That's the winter road chemicals.  The Zaino Show Car polish protects such that with a wet towel, it comes off.  Unprotected, it's a PITA to get off your car.    -  This has been a public service announcement -

  • Speeding ticket.  94 mph on I71.

    Well done!!

He was stopped in Wayne County where I currently reside on I-71.

The state highway patrol gal that pulled him over did him a favor.

She had him clocked over 100 mph which would’ve been a mandatory court appearance.

Instead she cited him at 94 mph which will cost him $155 in this county.

He’s probably got that much money rolling around under the drivers seat in his green Porsche.

  • His 9th just in Ohio?

Hes going just slow enough that they can catch him.

Maybe he was trying to get a date with her after so many encounters. He doesn't drink so meeting her in a bar was out.?‍♀️?

It's a nice feature.  My Accord Hybrid has one. I can't remember where I have it set but it is set to keep me about 3 seconds behind the car in front. At cruising speed, that gives plenty of cushion.

And I always wait for a Rabbit to pass me by going at least 10 mph over the limit. I catch up some 100-200 yards behind so they catch the ticket. And I brake when I see them brake.

There you go.  I never like to be the lead car.  As you said, I might drop in behind, but not the lead.  If I am more or less the lone wolf in some section of road, if during the day, I might set it at 75.  At night, even a little closer to the limit posted if not less.  Night vision loss is a real thing. Road glare is a real thing as one gets older.

I have never been a speed demon.  I rarely go over 76-77.  I've never felt the need. For me it creates more stress than thrill.

Whereas going to Colorado from Texas every summer there are long stretches where there are very few cars (like 1 a mile or less), so finding an 80 mph Rabbit is no problem and not the least bit stressful to drop in safely behind.?......................................?

In a 70mph zone, setting your cruise at 73 and not worrying about a ticket is worth more to me than getting somewhere a few minutes earlier but worrying that running at 76 might get me a ticket that costs over $100 and raises my car insurance.

People act like going 5 mph faster is going to shave a half hour off a hour drive.

It's why if I had Myles Garrett money I wouldn't bother buying a car that can easily go 100+ mph. What's the point, except vanity? I'd probably drive a SUV daily and get myself a cherry '65 Impala and cruise in style.

...but there are cars where the feeling is different.  Myles' is probably one of 'em.  I only did it a couple of times, but, in the Vette, once you approach 100 mph, the aerodynamics come into play...you can feel the car kind of 'sit down' under the air, and want to take off down the road.  It's like, where you'd leave most anyone in the dust.  Just sayin' lol.

Same with the Mercedes CLA 250 I had. It was made for the German Autobahn!!

Ford Pinto. Uh Huh! Why do I have some doubts about it overtaking a turbo charged small Mercedes. You'd a flipped at the first decent curve we had to negotiate. Once in Ohio I witnessed a guy flipping his Ford Mustang multiple times over and over on the Interstate. I stopped to see if he was ok and he wanted help flipping it back over which several of us did. He kept saying he didn't know why he felt he needed to go 100 mph. Of course we pointed out it would be hard for it to go anywhere with both front shocks stickup up through the wheelwells. LOL!

My dad was a hellofa mechanical guy. He took a Ford Pinto, cut down and reworked the frame, bored and stroked the engine into a ton of HP and then stuck on a Plastic Kit Replicar Body from Canada that made it look like a 1925 2 seat Jaguar SS 100 convertible. My younger brother drove it in car shows in Denver several years.

  • I was doing a hundred in my kia sedona minivan driving from Ohio to Myrtle beach, still had a v6.

Also got up to 160 on my motorcycle, trying to find more of a retro style bike now but not high on my list.

I preach to the kids how speed kills and agree, speeding doesn't save you anything. But doing a hundred shaved an hour or 2 off over such a long distance, still not worth it.

I get it.  I just don't feel the need.  Especially on a public road.
