Should Israel now recover its ancestral land in southern Lebanon, as Lebanon lost control of it to Iran from 2000?

  • Lebanese resistance to the Iranian proxy Hezbollah ceased, when Amal lost to Hezbollah in 1888 to 1989:

'Amal officially lost the bulk of its military hostilities to Hezbollah during the "War of Brothers" conflict in late 1988 to 1989 Following months of brutal fighting in Beirut and South Lebanon (specifically the Iqlim al-Tuffah region), Amal was defeated by a combined Hezbollah-IRGC force. [...] Amal lost its position as the sole representative of the Shiite community in the South, and Hezbollah solidified its dominance in the region. [...] the two parties later became allies in the 1990s and beyond, often fighting together against Israel.'

Iran through its proxy Hezbollah has been in illegal-occupation of southern Lebanon since 2000. Since that date therefore Lebanon lost control of southern Lebanon to Iranian illegal-occupation:

'Hezbollah effectively commenced its control of southern Lebanon on May 25, 2000, following the rapid withdrawal of Israeli forces and the immediate collapse of the Israeli-backed South Lebanon Army (SLA) militia.'

The Lebanese army is unable to disarm Hezbollah if necessary through force, or the Lebanese are unwilling to do so. This leaves Iran through its proxy Hezbollah free to fire upon Israel from Lebanese territory. This is a typical situation where the Arab party having responsibility simply says "Well, its not us, its those naughty other guys!"

The Lebanese inability to control southern Lebanon, having in reality lost control of it to Iran, is now telling Israel something:
Southern Lebanon is a place previously on which Israel had NO claims, yet in the current circumstances a rethink may now be necessary.

Were Israel to recover that region, they would be taking it from Iran, NOT from Lebanon!

Indeed, the south of Lebanon was the portions allotted to:
The tribes of Asher (coast) to Sidon and on its eastern border, Naphtali.

  • Should they? Hard to say, but there’s some evidence that we’ve entered a new Age of Imperialism, so why shouldn’t Israel get in on the action?

Russia’s doing it. We’re doing it. Seems like a matter of time before China starts doing it.

According to Cambridge Dictionary, "Imperialism" is:

'the attempt of one country to control another country'

In this case the Jewish people / Israel, could not validly be accused of "imperialism" were they to recover part of their own ancestral-homeland.

Israel is doing a fine job controlling the USA right about now.

I understand your position. There’s a 3,000 year old map to prove it. We’d be in a pickle if Native American tribes had 3,000 year old maps. Not a Kosher pickle, but those do go great with a Reuben, which is consequently east of the Dead Sea.

Wouldn’t you think Israel would be more concerned with getting their Reuben back?

Stay on topic here Calf. Robot had a question, l gave an answer. Hell, l basically said Israel should go for it, and Reuben too.

It’s fine if you want to throw your little barbs, but at least make an attempt at the topic in the process.

"Israel is doing a fine job controlling the USA right about now. ":
Sounds like this means not approving of current U.S. policy but hey, blame one's disapproval on the Jews ...

    Maps and Native Americans:
I did mention that were Israel to recover its ancestral-lands (currently in "Lebanon"), in reality it would be recovering them from Iran.
Also, yes the Jewish people are the indigenous people of their ancestral-homeland of Israel, yet it would be a
strange concept indeed to use the American experience as an argument that no native people of the world (such as the Jewish people) should be allowed to recover their ancestral-lands.

"Reuben, which is consequently east of the Dead Sea":
The lands east of the river Jordan are not part of the Promised land. Israel has no claims on them and has a peace treaty with Jordan.

That first bit was a joke there robot, a play on a recent narrative.

Didn’t you just post a map that shows Reuben as an ancestral tribe of Israel? Why is that map a good enough justification to take over one part of it and not another?

The land East of the Jordan river was granted to the children of Lot, comprising the countries of Amon and Moab.
The Amorite king Sihon conquered a large part of both of those countries.
Then the Children of Israel conquered Sihon taking his lands.
Thus East of the Jordan river, going from South to North, the (Biblical) countries were as follows:
Edom, Moab, Reuben, Gad (on Gad's eastern boundary - Amon), and Manasseh.
The conquered land East of the Jordan river on which were: Reuben, Gad, and Manassah, was not part of the Promised land.

Therefore what this means is that though not part of the Promised Land some of the tribes of the Children of Israel were allowed to settle there, by way of having conquered it from Sihon (who had taken those lands from the children of Lot).

The southern part of Lebanon on which were Asher and Naphtali, is part of the Promised Land.
As I explained in my first post here, in my view Iran has taken that land from Lebanon, as clearly shown by Lebanon's inability to prevent Iranian proxy Hezbollah from firing on Israel from southern Lebanon and also Lebanon's inability or reluctance to disarm Hezbollah as they had agreed to do.

Interesting. Thank you for the information. It looks like you may not have posted the ideal map to substantiate your post. I guess Reuben will have to exist in our hearts and minds in sandwich form.

The map I posted shows the apportionment to the tribes of the Children of Israel.
It is not a map showing the boundaries of the Promised Land.
[Edit: I have added a marked-edit to my first post to make that clear.]

The western to the eastern borders of the Promised Land are specified here:

    Numbers, 34:6:
'The western border: it shall be for you the Great [Mediterranean] Sea and the border this shall be your western border.'

    Numbers, 34:12:
'The border [...] down along the Jordan, and its ends is the Sea of Salt [the Dead Sea]; [...]'
