  • Pistol is a 6 episode biopic about the rise and fall of the Sex Pistols, one of the formative punk bands of the late 70s.

As a former punk rocker myself l appreciated the Sex Pistols, but they really only had 1 good album. They were basically a manufactured band.

The series is largely told from the perspective of Steve Jones, the guitarist. He’s depicted as a rough & tumble guy who wants to be in a band, and he has a bassist and drummer, but needs a singer.

And then he meets Malcom McLaren, who becomes the band manager and gets Johnny Rotten on vocals, and the rest is history.

Hands down my favorite part of the show is that Chrissie Hynde, from Akron, and lead singer of the Pretenders, is one of the main characters.

Chrissie Hynde fun fact, she was at Kent State in 1970 during the shootings. Apparently a few years later she shipped off to London and hung out with the Sex Pistols before forming the Pretenders.

The show was a fun watch for me. I’m probably biased but l thought it was really well done. Character portrayals, the scenery, the cars, the plot line was solid.

    I give it an A.

I got to meet Chrissies brother Terry.. He's an outstanding Sax player.. I saw him and his band in a local watering hole one night about... almost 30 year ago but they were great.. I remember them being somewhat unique.. they are called The Numbers" band.. They were semi New Wave with a punk edge.. almost dissonnent sounding.. But they also fused elements of Jazz and Pop... I only wish I had gotten to see them again.... They were fun to watch... The main guitarist did a great job of controlling  and directing the dynamics of the songs... It was also a learning experience for me... As it turns out... They are still around and Terry looks the same LOL..
