Who Are Legit Left Tackle Prospects at #24?
-
Guys I've never seen play 1 full game are: Blake Miller and Max Iheanachor. I don't know I can weigh in on them very much beyond reading what some scouts say or measure and knowing Miller was a great heavy weight wrestler in high school and was a 4 year starter at Clemson (no easy feat) that makes him intriguing. He also looked good at the combine imo :
Would have been included in my response but he’s played RT. From NEO too.

Thanks! Yeah, the only reason I included him was in reply to Dutch's question where he was mentioned as one of the OTackles that could be available at #24. We have to upgrade both Tackle spots with healthy choices so it was wise that he was included...
My Darkhorse LT (not getting very much attention - despite 43 starts mostly at LT) is Northwestern's 6'7" 325 pound LT Caleb Tiernan. I always trust a Coaches Poll over a Media Poll since I trust their interpretation of game film better; and Tiernan was a 2nd Team All Big 10 Conference Selection. Anyway, he could be a nice option in round 2 or 3 if all the more popular/talked about choices have been selected ahead of us. Now for the BAD NEWS - he only has a little over 32" arms BUT he's got the quick feet/great base, good agility and can pull really well. Did I really just type a guy with short arms can pull really well?

I'm not a big fan of not taking the guy that you need because someone says THIS other guy, who plays on the other side of the ball, has more value. Value to who?
This is why teams don't let a computer choose their players.
I want Fano or Tate at #6. (I'm thinking that nobody will trade with us for pick 6) Those guy will have the most value for our team's situation.
At 24 I want the best player at the other position. So if we took Tate at 6, then I want the best LT available at 24 (assuming there will be one or two). I'm thinking that the draft is deeper in WR than LT so I'd take the LT at 6 and a WR at 24.
Value to us comes in many positions shapes and forms when you have six wins in two years.
This defense can change overnight if Myles is traded in 27 or 28, Delpit isn’t resigned after next year, Ward has another concussion, etc.
Value to us comes in many positions shapes and forms when you have six wins in two years.
You have to ask yourself WHY does the team have 6 wins in 2 years. And the answer to that is QB, OL & WR. We are in a position to take one of the best LT's or WR's in the entire draft. And yet people want us to make a luxury pick for our defense...already one of the best defenses in the league. I'm sorry, but I am not ever going to think that that's a good idea for our current situation.
We won 4 games with one of the best defenses in the league. And people want to prioritize the defense.

I want to prioritize taking great players and those players by average normally reside in the very top of the draft.

Here's my LT ranking: (Lomu & Freeling are about even to me except Freeling had that good combine)

Caleb Lomu LT 6’6 308
Monroe Freeling LT 6’7 315
Kadyn Proctor LT 6’7 330
Max Iheanachor RT 6’6 330

If there is, for example, a DE that the Browns rank as a player far superior than any of the LT prospects and they can't trade down, they should absolutely consider taking the edge player.
This team is being built for Brookpark. Myles could very well be traded after the coming season, and even if he's still playing for the Browns by the time they move into the new stadium, he'll be like 33 years old.

Sure, if the consensus is that the player is waay better than the LT's & WR's then you take the edge guy (or whoever guy that you've got rated as God-like). But I don't see that drafting a LT is that much of a reach at #6. I've seen mocks where a LT goes before we pick. I've seen one where TWO Tackles go before us. I saw one where the 2 tackles AND 2 WR's were drafted before our pick. (I didn't sleep well that night)
Edge rusher is an important position. Just like LT. But we have the Sack King already in place. So this pick would be for the other side of the LOS...like the RT of an offensive line.
Then there's the Center position. Some 'analysts' have our C being Elgton Jenkins because he played C for the Packers last year. But last year was the 1st time he'd played Center. And apparently his play there last year was a mixed bag. He's really a Guard. So we might be targeting a Center from this draft also. There's a ton of work still to do on the offense and it's going to have to come from the draft.

So, you want the second best LT from Utah's 2025 team with the Browns 6th pick overall? The good news is we still NEED 2 OTackles and Fano won the Outland Trophy with elite performance as a RT despite his arm length of 32" (accompanying the reason it's often mentioned his NFL taker could kick him inside to G/C). I LIKE him a lot as a RT; but he's gonna have to weigh more than the 291 lbs he weighed at the Combine.
Let's not pretend every team neglected their OL needs like this one did as recently as the 2025 draft. When I complained about it last year - didn't you ask me what one of our picks would I have been willing to give back? Well which draft pick did you, me and others end up complaining about the most? And what round was that in? The 3rd right? There's a lot good Guards and Centers and probably even RTs that have been drafted in round 3 in recent years. Go see how many Berry's previous Supervisor in Philly - Howie Roseman has drafted in those rounds in the last 4-5 years.
As for your point none of 31 other teams will want/need a defensive player at #6 overall, keep in mind - the 1st pick will be Mendoza. Therefore any of the following leftover at draft slot #6 could very well be worth a trade-back for 1 more 1st round pick: David Bailey, Arvell Reese, Sonny Styles, Caleb Downs, Rueben Bain. And YES, very carefully worded here - someone within the other 31 teams will want the next version of Ed Reed as early as a pick 6...

General consensus around here is that any LT taken at #6 would be a reach, soooooo...
Who are some guys that:
1. Can project to be able to play LT in the NFL?
2. Would could still be on the board at #24?
3. Would be worth the #24 pick?

Caleb Lomu at #24 overall mainly because he only just finished his red-shirt soph season in a conference that wasn't the Big 10 or SEC. His major battle test was Texas Tech's David Bailey that he gave up 0 sacks to last year. Some teams will want more experience and battle tests earlier than this slot. I think Monroe Freeling goes sooner because of the Conference he played in in terms of battle tests especially on his own team in practice in the 4 years at Ga.
Someone COULD get creative with Clemson's 4 year starter at RT - Blake Miller for LT and if it doesn't work; they've still added a GREAT RT in Blake Miller
3rd option if there's been a run on the limited supply is a choice between - Max Iheanachor has the athleticism to play LT after showing tremendous progress despite playing his very first football game in college. Picked the game up fast as a RT at ASU. The other option despite having the same short arm length as Fano is 2nd Team All Big 10 in the Coaches Poll - Northwestern's LT Caleb Tiernan with 43 starts and most of them at LT. The 3rd alternative is Bama's Kadyn Proctor - if I could ever forget my 1st impression of him vs Florida State. Unlike Wills, he played a lot of LT and worst case scenario he kicks inside and plays Guard/Center where there's a teammate to his right and left closing off pass pro space to his favor.

Basically four plus weeks from the Draft we have zero idea what the Browns will do. ?
Makes it more interesting to watch though!

what I think they will do….
6. Tate or
6. trade back Saints, Cowboys, Bengals being likely teams
24. Tackle
What I want them to do…
6. Downs
24. Tackle
39. WR
3rd round. Center (listening to Pat Kirwan and Jacob Hester yesterday they love the depth at Center in this draft) they named four guys that are 2nd-4th round day 1 starters. Smart athletic guys.

?And we actually began talking about OTackle prospects in the 1st half of the college football season. We got our 1st glimpses when you shared your 1st video of OTackles that guy presented and spoke about.
1 thing I tried to start doing was post the schedules of nationally televised games each week so we could all talk about great matchups and upcoming draft prospects within those matchups.

Well done! The Center from Iowa - Logan Jones won the Rimington Award as the Nation's best Center. He's projected to go anywhere between the 3rd and 4th rounds. Our former Oline/Current Iowa HC Coach Kirk Ferentz does a whale of a job developing players for the NFL for a program with the recruiting attraction of corn fields and cow pastures.

Well, when you put it that way it doesn't sound like rational thinking does it. But I like that he can play either LT or RT. And I don't recall seeing a draft ranking where Lomu ranks higher than Fano. Frankly, I'd be happy if we could walk away with either of those two guys.

I rarely ever have a reason to bust your chops - and even this time it's only about a HUGE need your passionate about the Browns wants us filling this draft. Fano won the Outland Trophy as the Nation's best OL so you're not wrong to want him. You're also right that Lomu isn't rated higher than Fano after Lomu's 2nd full season starting (before declaring for the draft with 2 years of college football eligibility remaining). JMO, if he's projecting anywhere in the 2nd half of round 1 as a sophomore - he'd be projecting upper 1st round next year (like Fano is this year) if he came out after his junior season unless he were to get injured. As I said to you I like Fano - he was my first favorite Tackle; and while I was watching some of his highlights I kept seeing this #71 pulling/tapping from the other edge. I was impressed at how well he moved enough to realize this is this "Lomu guy" I was starting to see pop up on some of the top OTackle prospects lists; so I had fun watching both of the "2 Utes." I'd be fine with either guy at #6 and the other at #24; because G, C, RT, LT are all big needs that could use brighter futures removing some dark shadows. I posted this somewhere before, if Fano snapped the football in one/some of the OL drills at the combine - it was probably at the request of some teams interested and/or his agent. The Browns actually had offensive staff coaching up some of the OL drills in Indy. It's gonna be interesting so stay tuned...
Didn't know where to put this - but this year seems to have more OTs with short arm lengths than I can ever recall seeing in the last few years. If they have quick/lateral feet working in tandem with fluid/agile hips - I don't worry quite as much as others. Then again, I don't get paid for my opinions/pov so there is that!
-
I have absolute faith that no matter who we conclude here will be the exact right pick, Berry will find a way to make the exact wrong pick.

? What's strange is the last guy Berry assisted in Philly (Howie Roseman) was great/super/elite at drafting quality OL. How does a guy wanting to be GOOD GM not tap any of that? Roseman never neglected one of their lines at the expense of the other or other positions. When I buy annual NFL Preview Mags - I often look at the rosters of teams specifically for the year and round each guy was drafted in for OL & DL guys. If you have one laying around - check out what Philly's GM has done for their lines on both sides of the ball. It's remarkable!
Let's hope Berry includes his well experienced OL Coach's input on some of the prospects he and his scouts are finding intriguing this time around. Maybe this will be the year he shows he's found ways to learn from previous mistakes?

Yeah. I noticed the guy in the Browns sweatshirt and was quite happy that we had somebody right there interacting with the players. I'd like them to give that guy a seat in the closet of the draft room. And before they hand in their pick they open the closet door and ask him if he had any thoughts on the player. Then give him some snacks and shut the door until the next round. Now you've covered all of the bases....unless you wanna ask the homeless guy...

So, you want the second best LT from Utah's 2025 team with the Browns 6th pick overall?
Well, when you put it that way it doesn't sound like rational thinking does it. But I like that he can play either LT or RT. And I don't recall seeing a draft ranking where Lomu ranks higher than Fano. Frankly, I'd be happy if we could walk away with either of those two guys.

I think Fano is rated higher because he is more experienced.
I think as a LT Lomu has a higher ceiling.
I get your point though.

I'm confused now...
What are the dates of birth for Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomu?
