If I had one critique  I would take a center in the top of the 4th.  There should be some pretty solid starting year 1 quality options that are all rated above Burton that go in the 3-4 range.

Who are some centers you would consider there? I thought about the guy from Michigan State, but he's 25 and Berry likes his draft picks more on the young side.

Slaughter will not be there.  Jones may we may have to go Third round pick.

the Sirius XM NFL radio crew did a nice discussion on the centers.  They specifically pointed out Jones, Lew (Auburn) and Hect fron KState.   Lew was coming off an ACL if. It for that he’s probably Day 2.

Trey Zuhn A&M is another one.  Probably behind the two above

I would actually target a Center in this draft.  After our first three picks I would weigh the available Centers against any other player/position that I may want take.  Perhaps I don't wind up with one, the draft is funny like that.  One minute there's plenty of players at a specific position, then somebody picks one, then everybody starts picking them...and they're all gone by the next time you're on the clock.

BEING A BROWNS FAN IS A TEST TO SEE HOW MUCH YOU CAN TAKE

Athlon has Slaughter projected for the 3d round while Lindy's has him landing in the 4th-5th rounds.  But who knows?

This guy might be a good late round stealth:

        image.png.0912d94c7b6673e14c948445290797a0.png

Even better - he's already pissed off some knuckleheads are giving him a backup label that probably haven't even seen him play at ND or Indiana.  Don't feel bad Pat, nobody is naming their kid Tom any more - have they been reading this message board or something?

I welcome the only Defensive Coordinator to earn a Superbowl Ring in New Orleans while understanding Revenge of the Nerds is a sequel. "Come get some!"

Slaughter by some reports is the most complete prospect. IQ/Anchor/Feet.
I’ve seen day two on some mocks.

Logan Jones Iowa is my perference he’s an older prospect though. Probably the best feet at this position.  And I love former wrestlers in the trenches.

Browns may run more gap/power Coogan fits there better

As much as I would love to trade down, I did this mock with the picks they have and where they have them.

1st Round (#6 overall): WR Carnell Tate, Ohio State. While I have some reservations taking Tate in the top 10, I would be surprised if he was a bust. I have some doubts that he's a legit #1 WR, but at worst IMO he'll be a good to great #2.

1st Round (#24): OT Caleb Lomu, Utah. An athletic technician who will need some patience. Might struggle against physical edge players at first, needs to get stronger. Has the upside to be an above average left tackle in the NFL.

2nd Round (#39): CB Colton Hood, Tennessee. Physical, press-man coverage corner who would fit well in the Browns scheme, which uses man coverage far more than zone. Honestly, Hood was one of about five corners that it appears could be in play here at the top of the second round. With Ward closer to the end of his career than the beginning, adding another corner high seemed like a good idea.

3rd Round (#70): WR Germie Bernard, Alabama. Versatile player who is built more like a RB than a WR. Won't wow you with great size or athleticism, he's just a good football player. Nice complement to Tate.

4th Round (#107): LB Kendal Daniels, Oklahoma. Great size (6'4", 240lbs) who has been described as a "heat-seeking missile when coming down to make a tackle". Needs developed.

5th Round (#146): C Jager Burton, Kentucky. Highly experienced (47 college starts) mostly at center, but also at guard, flashed elite athleticism (4.9/40 time) with starting potential in a zone-heavy offense.

5th Round (#149): DT Chris McClellan, Missouri. Prototypical size for a DT with good athleticism. Had six sacks as a senior, but mostly relies on bull-rushes. Needs to get stronger at the point of attack.

6th Round (#206): CB Tareek Chappell, Texas A&M. Nickel corner candidate with elite quickness, but small stature. Injury history will cause him to slide down the draft.

7th Round (#248): TE Will Kacmarack, Ohio State. He'll never be a receiving threat, but he's a helluva blocking tight end that can catch the occasional pass or two. Good complement to Fannin.

Moving forward, you're going the same 1H structures but with more match, MES and vision elements.   Especially to combat what OC's would view as 'man' beaters.

TL;DR...   Good player, I like your eye.   But the bold part isn't accurate bubs.

RPO.  Run. Power. Often.   Coogan has a great anchor and uses his leverage well for a 6'4ish center, creating lateral separation or just moving a body backwards.   But my concern is having a center THAT damn tall.

Mine too!  Also a Rimington Award Winner as the Nation's best Center.  In addition, I like the way Iowa HC Kirk Ferentz continues to develop good OL for the NFL.  He was a good OL Coach for the Browns so it's not a huge surprise.

Apparently there are some strength and anchoring issues with him (or less than ideal attributes to both). Superior Leverage can overcome strength and anchoring issues. His background and using leverage to his advantage may help in this continued development.

The Browns did* run an above average amount of cover 1.  Double the rate the Jags did. But that should also tell you how little C1 JAX ran.   1H shells tend to have more "elements" of man coverage, outside of pure C1.  So that increase in man snaps alone benefits a DB moving to a new system with new language. Conversely where Newsome struggled in JAX, which I rather expected.    Not to mention going from JAX to the Browns pass rush making life a lot easier.

Where Campbell struggled the most was the vision match-zone that the Jags ran.   It's very Vic Fangio inspired. I've spent some time versing myself in his defenses in the past.    Where does that come into play here?  Some of that same philosophy, with the match-vision from DB's will be installed with the Browns defense this year.   I mentioned the Browns should, and ended up doing, an uptick in 2H shells under Schwartz after Emerson was lost. That includes simulated 1H shells that ended up being inverted 2H shells, through NTT looks (not traditional tampa)

I'd suspect you'd see similar usage rates that ended last season, to start the 2026 campaign.   I'd also venture you'll see less C1 from our 1H shells, with more 1H 'cut'.  Mostly to combat this new 'wave' route concept we've seen offenses use to attack 1H man and to limit big plays.

LB (No Devin Bush or JOK  nor Mo Diabate )  FA add Quincy Williams.. than who ?

Worthy of note.  We probably agree with most of what I'm about to say. What a guy's measured height can't tell us is "CAN HE BEND?" or in this case we could get a little Legally Blonde with it - "Can he bend and snap?"  I remembered the 6'6" Ethan Pocic had a lot of critics when the Browns 1st signed him.  Since he wasn't playing for the Browns yet - I hadn't seen much of his NFL game so I don't think I joined in on any ratchet jaw about him.  When healthy, I think he's played well here and considerably better than the 6'1" Nick Harris.  While Harris had the more convenient pad height - he didn't always use it to his advantage and got bullied inside too much for comfort when healthy.  Even shorter guys have to bend to establish user friendly pad heights or they forfeit their base/anchor.  Also keep in mind, there's some stout and girth at DT/NT with strong compact frames that can clog up the middle like a toilet - so you gotta know how to plunge that right out. All that said, he was far more effective when he was used as a FB with a running start blocking in short yardage the last season we had him fwiw.

When I played OG in stone ages a lot of it had to do with I was only 5'10" and I didn't have the body weight of an OT.  That said, I was very thankful for Okie Drills that often rewarded the guy who knew the snap count initiating contact; established superior leverage with bend and ideal pad height;  while keeping quick feet moving at least shoulder width apart throughout as well as having the head up at all times to prevent over-extension; and FINISH HIS ASS until the echo of the whistle. Make him wish you brushed your teeth before practice. Rinse and Repeat...

Okay I got carried away telling long lost testosterone stories to the guy in here that gets paid for his football opinions.

I welcome the only Defensive Coordinator to earn a Superbowl Ring in New Orleans while understanding Revenge of the Nerds is a sequel. "Come get some!"

Yes!  Bend is absolutely vital. Great call to Pocic. Height tends to also play to wingspan as well (proportionately)   When this team wanted to be more OZ centric, wingspan is a hell of a weapon getting reach blocks (veteran "holding")

Like SD said, you'll see more power elements added to this offense now.  So that zone flow isn't as crucial as a center who can bend, drop that center of gravity, and work to establish leverage.

Can you imagine if we all did an old man's combine?  They'd have to fill this in for my 40 time - "he's almost done with his high school 40"

If he's anything like Henley - it might not be a bad reach
