I wasnât familiar with Hasan Piker, but believe it or not l actually watched the almost 2 hour clip in the OP where he spoke at Yale. It took me 4-5 sittings to get through it.Â
I recall youâre a fan of the show Foundation on AppleTV+ so l know youâll get this reference, but heâs sort of trying to be the Hari Seldon of our time. It was a debate over the fall of the American empire, and his position is that itâs already in motion and heâs interested in it being as less messy as possible.
It was an odd format for a debate. At Yale they apparently hiss if you say something they disagree with? That took some getting used to. But there were opposing viewpoints brought up, and gobs of facts and historical references throughout. It was honestly pretty interesting.
One of those historical references involved Chiquita (previously known as United Fruit Company) who basically owned most of Guatemala in the early 20th century, and the CIA backed coup in 1954 when UFCâs profit margin became threatened.Â
That hit a little close to home because Chiquitaâs HQ was located in Cincy for many years, and their former CEO was Carl Lindner, who was also the majority owner of the Reds for a time. The Reds new majority owner is Bob Castellini who also made his fortune in produce, so lâm just now realizing that my favorite baseball team has been run by people who sling fruits and veggies for the past 30 years and maybe thatâs why we suck so bad.

Of course l wonât forget Marge. I met her once. Iâm pretty sure she was the originator of âbring your dog to the ballparkâ games. She would show up with her St. Bernard and give Reds stickers to all the kids who approached her. It was pretty cool for us kids at the time.
And yeah, she was super racist. Eric Davis was her âmillion dollar n****r.â But Eric is still here, and she is not, and wokeness has done a number on her legacy. But 1990 is it for me, the only year a team l cared about that actually won it all that l remember. And Marge was in charge then.
I gather Piker is more the leftâs version of Charlie Kirk. Going to college campuses and engaging in debates. It would have been cool to see them square off.
