Your Grade or Thoughts on our '26 Draft
-
Warren is a BIG safety, and I love the pick.
Who’s to say he couldn’t play close to the line as a LB?
He could potentially be a replacement for JOK.
The JOK thing still sucks; but I was worried about losing LB Devin Bush against the pass so I like where you went with that CD.... McNeil-Warren was projected to go in round 1 by a lot of people so this was a steal...
-
On paper it gets a feel good "A". It looks great.
The reality is every draft produces surprises, both good and bad a few years down the line. JOK is a good example. A great pick by all accounts that didn't work out as expected even if there is no real fault in that.
At minimum this class should pan out a solid B. We should end up with 3 starters with firmly solid starting NFL status. Anything more boosts the grade.

I'm torn - between a "B+" and an "A+".
I kinda think if they had drafted all my mock draft picks, they would be a "C".
kidding, I'm a kidder.
I do believe this draft is a solid "A".
Seems they drafted football players with character - Green as qb is intriguing - he may very well grow into a dynamic qb in a year or two. and I do mean, they drafted guys who love the game, and have the ability to play at the NFL level as a floor, with the ability to grow into terrific players over the long haul.
Truth is, I'm excited to see the difference in the Browns this coming season, the initial reason being that I believe in the new head coach bigtime.
In time, I believe Fano was a brilliant pick - I thought he'd be gone even before the Browns at six.
Conseption - was also a great pick, I hope he stays healthy.
Denzel Boston - nobody? thought he would be there in the second round. That is amazing. Goin to try to cover both of them? with our TE's in the mix? good luck with that.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren - in the second round, after a move up? Here is how fantastic a pick he is - nfl.com gives him a grade of 6.39. Know what grade they gave Caleb Downs? 6.47. that's 8 tenths of a point difference. In the Browns defense - that is an exciting addition.
Austin Barber - Fano is extremely versatile, so is Barber. Monken, of course, knows the oline was a hideous weakness last year.
from NFL.com:
What we're hearing about Barber: "[We] see him as a tackle to start ... has the flexibility to move inside." -- Monken.
Parker Bradford - center, a big powerful ROCK at center. He may not start, but there is a lot to learn at center, Wypler will have to battle him for it later on. and Elgton Jenkins can move back to guard, where he was formerly an all pro.
Justin Jefferson - I believe we will hear his name on special teams, a lot. That isn't a bad floor for now.
Joe Royer - who? lol. Royer didn't drop a pass all last season. That is amazing - when you consider his highlights. Has very outstanding instincts, also able to be a good blocker.
last but not least -
Talen Green, qb. Not a surprise at this point - but is an amazing athlete, very smart, but will take some time before they can see just how soon he can start. I watched his highlights once, but he's 6'5", 227 lbs, 4.36 forty? wow. he doesn't have a Josh Allen arm, so we'll see.
Carson Ryan, TE. 6'3", 255 lbs, a blocking TE, who can also catch. Not a bad pick.

I give the Browns draft an "A" - now if they can just cut you know who "qb" off the team, we're ready to roll.

I kind of wonder if Carson Ryan could be made into the FB/HBack guy Monken likes?
-
This is as little as I've probably ever cared about the Browns. On paper, the team addressed a bunch of needs. I expect another losing season and winning enough games to take ourselves out of the running for QB1.

I know that he played RB. Is he FB weight?
edit: He's on the Browns home page roster...listed at 255 lb. So he's big enough to be a FB.

He's pretty stout.
I guess. I really didn't think he was 255 stout. But I think it's moot since we did sign an actual FB.

A moo point.
Useless, like a cow’s opinion
Anything can happen....but as pick #248, with us picking another TE 78 picks earlier, and the TE's we already have...plus us signing a FB after the draft....he's got quite an uphill battle. Having said that, he was a draft pick. And GM's are reluctant to give up on a current year's draft pick.
Reminds me of many years ago. My friend and his brother had Patriots season tickets. Once in a while I would sit in for his brother. And there was a guy that sat nearby. He was the Moo The Chains guy. When they got a first down, that's what he would say.

Certainly fits the billing. Things to consider...
- NFL teams are using more 12, 13 & 21 personnel.
- Nickel usage rates have gone *down* the last 2 seasons.
- Flexibility between that TE/H/FB now varies, defenses have to account.
- Coach Monk utilized Patrick Ricard quite a bit.
So the talk of seeing more FB/H use isn't just for fun. There's evidence to suggest offenses that deploy a 2 back or H back set more tend to hit those makers of better efficiency.

Fano - can run for a big guy.

JW Johnson recently commented on Deshaun Watson, saying that he “looks great,” has done “a great job,” and is “in a great head space.” That sounds like a player who is motivated to perform well and could be a starter in the new season. Speaking on ESPN Cleveland, Tony Rizzo said Johnson’s comment is no coincidence. He believes that Johnson is preparing the team’s fanbase for the reality of Watson being QB1 in 2026. “[Johnson] said that for a reason. He’s trying to condition Browns fans out there that there’s a possibility [Deshaun] Watson might start,” Rizzo said.

Well...I guess Calfox will be watching Roller Derby this fall.

Monken is going to start the QB who he feels gives the Browns the best chance to win.
Organizationally though, I don't see the point. I feel like you need to have a real competition between Watson and Sanders, and if MKC is correct via her contacts in the team, Monken wants the starter named well before Training Camp.
I just hope the Browns give Sanders a shot sometime this season to figure out if he's someone to build around or if they need to go balls-out in the '27 Draft for a QB. Depending on how they finish, that could mean they get VERY aggressive moving up for a specific QB. Future draft picks could be flying around.

To add to your first line, I don't think that Monken entertains starting anyone else until he determines that the season is lost. That's not to say that he won't bench the starter because at that point he's making a decision that his starter is not giving him the best chance to win.
I also agree that there should be a real QB competition. Especially when it's a new HC taking over the team. If it's not going to be, Let the best man win, then players will become dismayed with the coach. They'll have to fall in line and politely do what they're told, but it will be more to collect a paycheck than anything else.
One of my problems with Stefanski is that he allowed his QB's to play stupidly. He did not mandate that his QB's SLIDE after taking off with the ball. Many times he said, That's the way Watson plays the game of football. And I'm sitting there thinking, Fuck No! You can't have your 250 mil $, 3 first round picks QB taking on tacklers and getting hurt. What freakin' good is he at that point? Each game is a battle...but the goal is to win the war. And Shedeur was doing much the same thing. I hope that Monken mandates that his QB's take care of themselves, because they're the only guys that can throw touchdown passes.
If Watson earns the starting job, and the team wins games because he's playing well, and even makes the playoffs...then they're going to have to keep him. It doesn't matter how many Calfox's there are out there.
Some months ago you (Dutch) said that this was going to be a very interesting offseason. And it's certainly been all of that. But it's also going to be an interesting regular season. Unfortunately, it might be another season where we spend a lot of it trying to figure out what to do at QB for '27 and beyond.
