Myles Garrett and the Brookpark Browns

Good sleuthing Dutch. I figure Myles is going to gun for the all time sacks record if his body holds up, and l understand he takes body care super seriously and that’s why he doesn’t participate in a lot of voluntary/offseason workouts.
It took Bruce Smith 19 seasons to get the record at 200. Myles is well over halfway there after 9 seasons so he’s got a chance.

125.5 through nine seasons.
He’s no TJ Watt, but that’s a pretty good pace ?

I'd like to see him be the main reason the Rams win a SB. He really deserves it because he gave all he had while being a Brown.

Good luck Myles, but sorry I can't root for a team owned by Stan Kroenke. I already root for one, why make it 2??

Speaking of Verse.

I've been saying this current front office is building the Browns for the new stadium in Brookpark all offseason, and the Myles Garrett trade yesterday really makes this obvious. The Browns move into Jimmy's Pleasure Dome in 2029, which will be Myles' 13th NFL season. Hypothetically, the Browns QB they draft in the '27 Draft will be entering his third season, and (fingers crossed) he will be hitting his stride during this season. The hope is the Browns will be a legit playoff contender, if not the season before, the last at the lakefront.
Myles will be entering his 13th NFL season in 2029, which Jared Verse will be entering his 5th. I was curious what other great defensive ends of fairly recent history did in their 13th NFL season. Myles will turn 34 that season.
Bruce Smith 14 sacks, 65 total tackles
J.J. Watt RETIRED
Michael Bennett 4 sacks, 27 total tackles
Jared Allen 0 sacks, 5 total tackles
Dwight Freeney 6.5 sacks, 10 total tackles
John Abraham 10 sacks, 35 total tackles
Julius Peppers 7 sacks, 43 total tackles
Jason Taylor 7 sacks, 42 total tackles
Michael Strahan 11.5 sacks, 82 total tackles
Reggie White 11 sacks, 46 total tacklesSome of the great defensive ends were highly productive and played for a few more seasons, others were on their last legs, Watt had retired the year before. Myles is a physical freak, it wouldn't shock me if he's still playing until he's 37 or so, but it also wouldn't shock me if he pulled a Jim Brown and retired on top, possibly with a few more productive seasons left in the tank. Should be interesting to see how his career plays out. I think the list makes it clear that it is not a given he'll be washed up when the Browns move to Brookpark, but he also suffered through leg injuries in 2023 and 2024.

Yes you have. And now media pundits are saying it. And it's true. But I also think that they're just playing the hands that their dealt. The Rams just kept calling back and sweetening the deal until the scale tipped. Also on that side of the scale was Myles' behavior of wanting out last year and again now. And, of course, his value isn't going to go up at his age. So, they got a good young player to replace him, sort of, and a 1st round pick for the annual QB Draft Derby.
Myles was vocal about his displeasure of Monken's hire over Schwartz...and kind of snubbing Monken by not stopping in to say Hi while he was in town for a Cavs game...I'm assuming that Monken didn't think to highly of him, aside from his ability to rush the passer.
I do not like that he doesn't become a Jim Brown or a Joe Thomas, Otto Graham, etc. and walk from the Browns turf to the HOF door. But when the scales tip...

Someday he will be like others have done with various teams and come back to the Browns just to retire shortly thereafter.

2029 is a long time to wait in N.ot F.or L.ong.
When is Ward out the door?

A 1st and maybe change, but a first is on Andrew Berries bingo card.

A little more Verse spam.

The sooner we can draft another guy like Verse to pair with him the better.
One thing that I always wanted the Browns to do was to take another DE high to pair with him. He never really had a really good complement on the other side.

Can't tell if you're talking about Myles by 'always'... because we had Clowney at one point.
If you meant Verse - then you're not giving Byron Young the credit he deserves. Honorable mention to Braden Fiske.
If you're looking for a pass rush duo, the most likely, immediate, and preferred (by myself) would be Mason Graham taking that next step to becoming a great-to-elite 3tech.

Clowney pretty much was a one year hired gun.
I wanted the Browns to take a DE in the first round to pair with Garrett for years. Hell, I wanted them to take Bradley Chubb in 2018 not long after taking Myles. (Glad they didn't and went with Ward though).

He was. Though that was sort of my point. Having oustanding edge talent is great.
But the pass rushing duo doesn't exclusively have to be edge-edge. The most effective defenses have a notable interior presence, if not great-to-elite.

Clowney was good. Freakishly quick. He didn't like it here. After leaving he said, You were there to help Myles get sacks.

Even coming out of college, his ability was never in question. The questioning came from his inner chest showing up as inconsistency in his performance leading his critics to feel/think he lacked the desire to ever go down as one of the all-time greats. He contributed 9 sacks here in 2021, which isn't anything to complain about. In 2022 he had 2 sacks. All that said, it just felt/seemed like if there was any small/last minute excuse not to play here - he made sure he found it...

Anybody who wants out finds their excuse, including Myles.
