I Told the Senate Gen-Z is Less Cognately Capable – Here’...

Something unusual is happening to student cognition. IQ scores are declining, and the skills most affected are the very ones schools were designed to build. Why?

I see this playing out in real time with serious political implications. It's clear this younger generation is very easily steered into solutions where they don't understand the outcome.

it's a legit concern. Instead of creatively adventuring, constructing, and entertaining themselves like we all did,

too many don't venture into the outdoors, just entertained by social media, computer games, and tv. With none of the

previously mentioned electronic media outputs, they are lost and bored.

No problem solving, no building, no creativity, no adventuring.

Add to that, some school systems have gone woke/liberal/politically manipulative and stopped teaching American history,

    economics, etc.

  • A few quick thoughts:

    • It's interesting the history of IQ testing, it's flaws, etc. Not that I'd throw it all out, but it definitely isn't the end all be all

    • That said, based on the trends described in that video, even if Gen Z's IQ dropped from the Millennial average it would still be higher than Boomers, etc. Based on the described trend of increase each decade prior. At least, based on that article

    • An interesting point unread somewhere is that it's possible that everyone is getting dumber, Gen Z was just the first generation to be in school / taking standardized tests as it was happening. I doubt we have the same level of testing data for Boomers let alone Gen X or Millennials. Would be interesting to know.

    • That said, I'm concerned about a over reliance on AI. My last job was very intense, high expectations, "prestigious", etc. All of that. Kids out of college killed to be there. We needed to know a lot about a lot of things. I saw some just vommitting back what ChatGPT told them into a report without actually understanding what it meant. Not all of them by any means, and these kids were the cream of the crop out of college, but definitely something to be aware of.
