Tale of the Tape - Browns vs Panthers
-
This should be an interesting game for sure. The Panthers might be an up & coming team, coming off a playoff season in the weak NFC South.
I think we all knew the Browns offensive line revamp could take some time to develop. I'm surprised they've been decent in pass protection but crappy at run blocking- usually the opposite is true league-wise.
I expect a low scoring game. Yeah, I know Carolina has scored 37 & 34 points in their first 2, I doubt that happens in our home opener.
Browns 23 Panthers 14

, we're the 2nd worst team at running the ball,
hopefully we are working on run blocking this week , I mean pass blocking seems to be fine, so hopefully we can pull it all together

Yeah, but they make plenty of the 'which one do I take' mistakes which gets the play off on the wrong foot. The QB evades, the RB is slicing over from the other side because pressure wasn't expected from 'that' side...etc., etc. We've got a rookie LT. We've been playing a rookie RG. And yet the weakest link has been Titus Howard at RT. Whenever there's a flag I'm expecting #71 to be called (or 77, Zion).

Yup. We knew. But it WAS better in the 2nd half. I don't think we were penalized...when for the three halves before that we were getting 5 or 6 accepted penalties per half. Hopefully it's not a fluke half.
If the OL doesn't work right, then the Offense can't work right. But...Just because the OL works right doesn't mean the Offense will. You've got to have some talent at the 'skill' positions. And I think we do have talent at the WR position now. Fannin and Judkins are good players. The QB just had a pretty good game. I think that our Offense is ready to have good OL play.

I also believe other D prepped for the run which did help our passing game, maybe now they have to show #4 some kind of respect which will open running lanes

Bryce Young can move around well and sling it too. Carolina also has a solid big body(6’5”)WR in McMillan. Aka TMAC.
It will be a solid test for this defense, still adapting to new DC and no Myles. The D-Line is very capable of creating pressure with Mason Graham taking a massive step from year 1 to year 2. McGuire also making some noise opposite of Jared Verse, who was quite against strong LT Tristan Wirfs in Tampa.
Myles Harden is way better than most of us anticipated in the nickel roll. Almost with 2 INTs off Mayfield. Our secondary is no joke. We need Tyson Campbell to get healthy. As Blackmon almost was beat for the loss against Tampa.
I believe the atmosphere will be electric in Cleveland this Sunday. And I expect a W.. Watson had something to prove. And I expect him to play like it.

He WAS beat. Twice. The first one along the sideline in the end zone was laid in there perfectly by Mayfield. The rookie receiver just plain mishandled it. And the 4th down pass wasn't placed perfectly by Mayfield and the receiver started to stumble while trying to get over to the pass....but he was open enough for a better pass to send us home as losers. We got lucky there at the end. And I'm happy that we got lucky and Blackman didn't have walk off that field with his head down, knowing that it was him that cost the team a win. - I've heard it said several times so far this year, That we have a pretty good D but that we're very THIN. I expect that if we don't spend a ton of draft capitol on QB, that we'll be looking at edge rusher and CBs. And if there's capitol available, DT and more OLine help.

It would greatly help our run game if we had a legitimate long/ deep passing threat. Throwing all passes< 10yds allows more players in the box

Concepcion and Boston are both deep threats. Bond makes 3 actually. They are clearing things out for those underneath players and if they start to load the box up against them, the deep players will score more often.

Yup. They've got the worst Run D in the league. And we're the 2nd worst at rushing. Each team is just what the other needed. Apparently we'll find out just how bad our running game is, or is not. Hopefully, Watson, Boston, Concepcion & Fannin have shown enough to keep the Panthers from selling out to stop our run. That's been our achilleas heal since, forever. Nobody ever fears our passing attack.

Most of Ohio gets to watch this one. Not us here in the greater Cincy area. And the area that was in dispute during the great Toledo War between Ohio and Michigan around 1835, they don’t get the game either. Anyone else vaguely remember that from your Ohio history class? It was a literal war between Ohio and Michigan over Toledo. Imagine that? Here’s the Wiki page about it.

Most of both Carolinas get the game. There’s some parts of WV and KY that get the game too. Somehow there’s a little square of western Indiana that gets the game and that’s a weird dynamic, it looks like the Richmond area. I’ll gladly trade them Richmond for Van Wert.

I did not pencil this as a win in my preseason picks. The Panthers ended last season with a shootout with the Rams, one of the best teams in the playoffs and they've started this season right where they left off last season. Having said that, our keys to victory are putting pressure on Bryce Young and taking advantage of their run defense if we can.

I find it real odd that the Ratbirds-Cowboys game is being played in Brazil but at 425,pm.
What's the point of sending those teams down there if it's not a "stand alone" game?
