Final: Jets (2-3) 17, Browns (3-2) 12 · Week 5
-
I expect the Browns to win but will be probably closer than people expect. Mason Graham's absence may lead to more blitz calls and Geno Smith is very good against the blitz. Our offense is still inconsistent esp the running game and will need to score over 20 points to secure victory.

This one is likely to be ugly for both offenses.
Brownies can't generate explosives & we struggle in the running game. Jets LOVE playing Cover 2
Jets are injured on offense and struggling to do the same. Browns love playing some 2hi shells.
This is the type of game that somebody has to dig deep and either you throw volume at the running game, or generate a few magic shots downfield. Because the screen game from last week isn't going to be as effective this week.
Either you get the vertical game going, or it's going to be a day to play the under. This is where the offenses stall out in the red-zone, so whoever comes away with a TD or 2 end up winning the day.
The Browns are historically famous for playing down to the level of their opponent... I still like the Browns in this game because I like Monkens energy and influence over the Browns more than I like Aaron Glenns impact or lack thereof on his team.. However.. I still expect a tough defensive effort from the Jets... Thats Glenns expertise and what he preaches... The Browns were aggressive on both sides of the ball last week and I hope that continues.. They will have to have more patience this week.. Especially on offense as you pointed out.. Boston and Bond are going to have to show up big I think while Concepcion can do the dirty work with the great blocking he's done... I love this group of kids we have...@nickers said:

Spoken like someone that began following the Browns way back when I did Nicks. Any time the Browns are favored (or there's a very beatable opponent), they've been prone to looking like they didn't prepare for their exam/game on Sunday. As recently as last year, The Browns lost to the Jets in Jersey 27-20 giving up TWO STs returns for TDs before the NYJs finished 3-14. In the same season, the visiting Titans on their way to a 3-14 record ran the ball right down the Browns esophagus to a 31-29 victory. Classic examples of "If you fail to prepare; then prepare to fail."
As we delve into the season, the volume of avoidable flags need to subside. There's nothing worse than watching the Browns beat themselves for the opponent. Repeatedly not knowing the snap count or where to line up on offense in PRO football are examples of guys not focused enough to WIN. Sometimes you gotta bench their ass with tough love before it gets contagious.
Random thought: When the Browns drafted Ohio State Center Luke Wypler in the 6th round in 2023 - I thought this was going to be a steal. However, in the early going he stuggled with injuries and the Browns signed a solid veteran - Ethan Pocic to man down the spot. When healthy, we had no reason to complain about Pocic. When he wasn't, Wypler got some intermittent opportunities that received mixed reviews from our fans due to some inconsistencies mentioned. I thought he was decent with room to improve like any inexperienced starter. Right now? I think he's just as good as the more experienced starter - Elgton Jenkins (who can also play OG) but the upside favors The young "Wypler Snapper" fwiw... -

I wish I knew of the pick contest before the season. I just made my first one.

This is the first game it's open, part of the new board.
Didn't open it for last Thursday night because of the short notice -

#Browns not practicing on Wednesday of #Jets week: OG Teven Jenkins, DT Mason Graham, DT Mike Hall Jr., WR Tylan Wallace and DE Derek Barnett.
Mike Hall Jr is constantly injured. I just saw he's out tomorrow. DOM GUMMIT! Along the same line, a big reason the Bears didn't re-signTeven Jenkins was because of his frequency of injuries. -

DLine - Interior and Edge - has to be a big priority next off-season in the draft, free agency and trades. -
I don't know what to expect - but: The Browns secondary, is playing excellent - the Jets secondary is also good. The difference is the defense - the Browns defense is tough everywhere, the Jets run defense has struggled. I suppose that means the Browns will be able to run the ball far more effectively, so that is an advantage for the Browns. Boston is the key advantage, with the other wr's healthy. Garret Wilson is also a star wr, their #1, but they have wr injuries - easier to double cover Wilson. The key - twatson has thrown 6 interceptions, Geno Smith has not thrown one. If I had to guess, I would guess Micah Fitzpatrick gets two ints, the Jets win by two field goals.

We're all still waiting to hear how many fantasy points Baker got compared to Watson when the Browns played the Bucs... It's been a few weeks now, cal.

The Jets have given up 40more total yards on the ground on the year, but have a better DEF EPA because they play A LOT of Cover 2.

We've faced a questionable Carolina defense and ran the ball like hell.twatson has thrown 6 interceptions

Bold guess considering that Watson has one of the lowest ADOTS in the entire NFL. -

@Orion Looking up stats is difficult for our boy cal. He still is struggling to come up with Baker’s fantasy stats vs Watson’s in their head to head matchup three weeks ago, despite his overwhelming confidence prior to the game.

@Orion said:
Incorrect. He's thrown 6 TD's. Watson's only thrown 2 INT's.
Correct. Now, where the hell did I see 6? lol
but he has thrown a lot of them in his career. and he is still stupid.
but....athletic. I just don't care.

guilty. dammit. I was tired, worked most of the day outside. and I ran out of decaf peach tea. and one of my green tomatoes disappeared - probably a squirrel?
but the Indians WON. So it was still a great day.
twatson is still a scumbag with an excellent cast around him. He's thrown 60 INTs his career so far.
and he has fumbled
Deshaun Watson has fumbled 44 times (with 16 lost) in his NFL career.
Go Browns, but I guess the Jets will win, but our defense is outstanding. -

Someone had quite the school girl crush on Cheesecakes only AFTER the Browns let him go. TB started 0-4 since Mike Evans left; and Baker had a losing record in games Evans missed for TB prior to this. Johnny Manziel missed Mike Evans just as much as Baker continues to... Having said all that, TB is 1-0 since their undrafted/rookie QB took over.
