I honestly cannot believe how well the defense is playing this season AFTER letting Schwartz walk and trading Myles. I thought they would drift back towards the middle of the pack, or even possibly worse. They haven't missed a beat. Incredible.
Here's a stat that blows my mind... the Browns, sans Myles, is second in the NFL with team sacks with 19.

I get the impression Rutenberg is a force to be reckoned with and has his guys digging deep to create havoc. My only gripe is they start off a little slow, but they seem to make adjustments on the fly and play with tenacity. I bet Myles would have loved playing for him.

@Ibleedbrown At this point Myles would just love to be playing period

Well, actually you're correct. They are Middle of the Pack on D. We'll get the semi-accurate numbers tomorrow (semi-accurate because Bye's have started). But the special teams are doing a good job. Our punter is launching punts and coverage has been pretty good so we're giving teams long fields a lot of times and we're getting them stopped before they can get points on the board. So, we're like the 60's Browns with the Bend but don't Break D. Of course we should factor in the fact that we played waay to much zone in our 1st game against the Jags and got our asses handed to us on D. But after ditching a lot of that zone on D we started being difficult to score against again.

I was quite vocal about how our D would not be as good this year because of lack of pressure to the QB. But the 'Not Myles Garrett' guys on the DLine have been doing a great job. Without Alex Wright. And lately without Mason Graham. (I was glad to see that we got Chris Williams back on our team this past couple of weeks) Sam Kamara has helped us, Adin Huntington has been playing. Good job by the players and good job by coach Rutenberg (especially after a complete fuckup in game 1).

The defense is, I'll call it 'opportunistic' They're about generating havoc plays - sacks, TFL's, turnovers. That is, obviously, in a similar spirit to Schwartz. They just have a different way of going about it now.

And the worse the Rams are this year [currently 2-4] the higher that extra first-round pick ends up next April.

We need to get some younger IDLs this upcoming draft, Collins can't play forever and Mike Hall is made of glass.

    Start scouting, sir.

Well said, and as others have noted - it's going to be tough sledding without Davante Adams for the next couple of months.

QB's, IDL, DPR & maybe some CB will be my focus this year. Already building the list.

i like your thinking. Hopefully, we're not done on OL yet either. That doesn't need to be a round 1 or 2 priority per say. There's always goodies in round 3 or 4 awaiting the right consumer.

What shocked me and maybe it shouldn't have was - how consistently DTs Huntington & Collins were winning with superior base & leverage. It was a freakin clinic. A couple times I noticed 1 of them jolting Baltimore's Rookie Center Vega Ioane back. Our DT got up under Ioane and it removed any and all help Ioane could get from his legs. That's WHY coaches harp on pad height.

With a 2nd thought - RT (should) be elevated above DPR on the list. Tytus can be a liability, but he's also a top 10 paid OT. So if there is to be one taken, and money is a factor, it wont likely be until mid-round.

The pass rush is IDL centric now. So QB, IDL, RT, DPR & maybe CB depth would round out the class for me.

The Browns finally have at least three guys that can play tight man coverage allowing our d line and a blitzer or two to get to the QB. That is the key to playing good D.

Which means I'll be playing Nacua on my FFL team every week now except the Bye week.
