More Blockbuster Trades?
-
I am sure not many of us browns fans woke up yesterday morning thinking Edwards was going to be a Jet by noon, and since forums are the place for speculation, what other trades can you guys see happening before the Oct 20th deadline?
1. Quinn? This one is obvious because honestly he is one of the only players on our team with some trade value. I can see Mangini having the motivation to deal him for some picks if DA has a monster week against the Bills. Honestly, I can envision both QBs gone after the end of the season but I think there is a possibility of BQ going quicker.
2. LB's? My guess is mangini didn't get Trusnik just to play ST. Now, I am not saying that he is going to throw him in as a starter this week, but with the way our linebackers have been playing, I could see a mix-up at this position before the 20th. Barton, Wimbley, and Jackson are probably safe. The problem is, who the hell would want the rest of the guys?

I don't think Quinn's trade value is very high right now. I think mangini will try to salvage that though by playing him again and hoping for good performances.
I don't think Barton is safe either, I've seen him out of position a lot, and he's really slow to my eyes.

Quinn and Braylon's underwear (which I am sure he was wearing as well) can take a hike.

Dude... we don't care if you want to be in the woods alone with Brady.. in his undies.

Quinn is under contract and he's cheap (he won't hit any incentives). Anderson is owed a big massive balloon payment or he's a free agent. If Anderson stays, it'll be because he was pretty damn magnificent, which he hasn't been so far (32nd rated... again). He'll need to win some games. He'll need to CAUSE some wins.
If that happens, I think Quinn is traded for not all that much, maybe a third round pick. That's fine, though, because that's an asset we can use. If we have a #5 or #6 overall, a 2nd, and three 3rds, we can do some moving to end up with a batch of picks between 15 and 50. Probably as many as five.
But if Anderson is gone, Quinn stays as a cheap, young, veteran guy who could hold the job for Bradford, Pike, or whoever.
Or he could compete with Leinart (!).

Sounds about right. Keep Quinn unless some team with real QB issues offers a first rounder. Not that I think Quinn is worth a first, but there is no reason to send him out at even value.
Remember that Clemens becomes a FA next season.

Actually the Edwards rumors have been ongoing for more then a month. So, to see him gone isn't that surprising.
As far as Quinn, it will depend on how the year plays out. Anything now is pure speculation. One thing for sure is that his trade value has surely slipped.
I do believe that Barton is just a stopgap. He is a smart veteran leader, a guy Mangini needed in the clubhouse. I believe they will seriously look to upgrade the LB position next year. Trusnik is a special teamer and I don't really see him being anything other then being a special teamer this year. He could work his way into some speciality packages and become to the Browns what Bowens was to the Jets.
My concern is that we are loaded with slot receivers. Furrey should prosper as a third down target for Anderson. Stuckey is more of a possession receiver and that may be Cribbs's best position as a receiver. What we need are stretch the field guys. We have MOMass and Robo is still very much a question mark still.
So, I don't see any more block buster trades until after the season when Cleveland will be looking for guys to replace Steinbach, who most likely won't be back and also a RT. They also will be looking for a RB to replace Lewis who is as good as gone. They definately need to upgrade the TE position as well as Safety and CB.
So, as much as you may want blockbuster, it might not be in the cards. Mangini spent this year obtaining much needed backup and special teams guys, now he must infuse some impact players and start adding to our core players. You might see a QB go, but that isn't a blockbuster because neither will command much on the trade market.
The blockbuster will be him trying to trade down because we still have so many needs that one high pick isn't going to get it done.
We need to be looking at 2 firsts, 2 seconds and 2 thirds, that's a blockbuster.

Quinn is the only obvious candidate left to move but the only way I'd move him is if someone is willing to overpay. (Oakland, anyone?)
Beyond that, keep him and let him go back to being the young-QB-in-waiting. At least, that's how we sell the whole debacle to the League at large.

If Quinn is moved (after the season), watch SF, Oakland, and Carolina.I'd throw STL in there.

I think Quinn is about the only thing we've got left that might bat an eye on the trade block.
Cribbs could be dangled, remember, Dallas gave up a 2nd for return specialist "Pacman" Jones. Problem there is we saw Cribbs isn't ready to be a wr.
And as far as this upcoming draft goes, it's starting to look like a goldmine to have as many picks as possible in. If the salary cap gets dropped, there WILL be a rookie slotting cap to balance it. That very well may make this upcoming draft the last draft without the slotting cap so every junior, senior and redshirted sophomore may want to make an exodus before they get locked into a minimum contract for their first 6 seasons. If so, we're going to see a LOT of talent and it'll be the perfect opportunity to roll over another huge chunk of the roster.

At some point (likely in the next 4-6 weeks if DA is still starting) I think he'll start asking for a trade. He will still be under contract but if his agent publicly leaks the trade request then that could effectively force a trade as he will have little value to Cleveland because it will be a huge distraction.

If somebody would give up good value for Jackson, he is gone. Definitely would throw a undersized ill-fitted ILB for value anytime.

Trade deadline is some where around Oct 14th. If he's asking for a trade, it's going on already and probably already is.

I don't think they will trade Cribbs, the fans would revolt. He is the one player with heart and dynamic talent on this team plus he is a local boy. He seems to have character and a great work ethic too. You think he wouldn't want to be returning kicks for a good team? Sure he would, but he shuts the hell up and tries to make us better every damn week.
-
Cribbs is also a great value at his current salary, even if they did give him some more money. I seriously doubt that Cribbs would be traded. Cribbs represents what Mangini says he values in a player and he is still young

Interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if we made more moves. I'm all for it. As long as we change WTF we have going on right now.
