With all the talk about Brady Quinn being traded now, and some thinking we wouldn't even get much, I have to ask. Do you REALLY think he got a fair shot to prove what he can do? He had 2 1/2 games with TERRIBLE play calling, no running back, and one wide receiver who drops everything thrown his way. I don't feel he was given a chance, and I while I hope DA goes on to become the next Dan Marino, I also hope somebody gives BQ a shot to see what he can become. It just amazes me how he got jerked around the last few years, and then wasn't even given the opportunity he sat on the bench waiting for, for all that time. BQ's failure in the first couple games was more the OC's fault than his. I wish him well. But if I were him, I'd be pissed. Your thoughts?

Quinn will get his shot again in the next few weeks. Anderson will not do anything substantially better and your coaching staff will have to come to the conclusion that the younger QB how has more upside than DA will need time behind the line in real games if he is going to improve. The problem Mangini has is he wants to compete for the division this year and that is completely unrealistic. He should just give Quinn the reins and let him learn and make mistakes without the fear of being benched.

I think you are wrong there. Mangini does see some upside in DA and hence is starting him over Quinn. WE DO NOT SEE that much upside but he sees something for sure. The difference in age between DA and BQ is not that huge but the difference in the way Daboll has planned his offense around a QB who can throw long is huge.

If anything I can only guess that our future QB whom Mangini will draft will be DA esque (the good without the bad)... a good arm with control, composure and quick release with less tendencies to make bad reads or collapse in the pocket.

Also, i would not discount Ratliff starting for us in case DA fails, cos Ratliff did start for the Jets, He was a Mangini guy who was bought here and he does have a decent arm.

Mangini doesn't give a crap about Anderson. He hasn't seen anything else anybody else has "seen". The point is, he doesn't like either of the clowns and it shows.

I think saying Mangini sees more updside in DA is a bit of a leap. Seeing Quinn's upside no higher or less than DA today is the more likely. I think he sees exactly what he said, a better chance to win with DA.

  • Back to Quinn/DA, I'm not sold on the fact that DA is better than Quinn, but, in all fairness, the three games Quinn played in this season were three of the WORST I have seen us play on O since I have been a fan ('85). We looked BAD.

    That means something.

You must be blacking out some of the Ken Dorsey starts.

Yeah, but we never really thought we were competing in those. Those weren't REAL games...

That's ok. I could care less how my grammer is on here...

That's what they all say when they say the wrong thing.... 🙂

Anyway, Quinn didn't get his "fair" shot to prove what he could or couldn't do. Too bad...I was pulling for him. This league isn't fair. It's business. Life is all about what you can do for me NOW. Best of luck to him!

I disagree with half that statement, I believe he had enough time to show us what he couldn't do, he mastered that.

I am sure the Ravens and their fans are glad they didn't think that about Joe Flacco after 5 1/2 games.

  • flacco was a rookie....queen's been doing commercials longer than he's been in the league.

guess all that hard work studying paid off....

  • College history big game flop at Notre Dame.

Quinn went 19-6 in his two seasons under Weis, but his critics underscore those six losses, all in so-called "big games" — twice against Southern California, the Sugar Bowl to Russell-led LSU, the Fiesta Bowl to Ohio State and to Michigan and Michigan State in the regular season.

What would Quinn tell a GM who asked why he should be taken ahead of Russell?

"I'd tell them I'm the most prepared collegiate player for the NFL in the draft," Quinn said at the scouting combine in Indianapolis. "There's not one other player that's had the kind of coaching that I've had the past couple of years.

"I feel that I am the best leader for a team that needs someone to step in."

Real playing time is real playing time. There is no substitute for live games in the regular season. All the playbook and film study doesn't give you a feel for real game speed.

Not implying BQ would turn into Flacco. But the notion that 5 1/2 real games is enough time to judge a QB in the NFL is just silly at best.

  • DA is more likely to be traded. Actually it fits Mangini's mold, start DA for a few games, if he plays well, it builds his value, then trade him. We're rebuilding.

A lot of people have said that Quinn fits Mangini's mold and I'm not sure why. It can only be based on how NY's offense ran with Pennington and you make do with what you have. When he had Favre healthy it was a different offensive "mold". I think winning fits Mangini's mold more than anything. If DA wins games this year, he isn't going anywhere. If he flounders, hello Kevin Kolb!

If the QB in question continues to miss reads and throws over those 5-1/2 games, it's plenty of time. If he holds the ball too long out of of absolute fear, it's enough time. If said QB gets sacked an average of 4-1/2 times a game and the other guy gets sacked 1-1/2 times behind the same line, that's enough time. And if your QB has 16 completions for just over 100 yards on a regular basis, that's plenty of time. In a nutshell, Brady has had enough time. But, if your QB is the future of a franchise with no hope and he doesn't have a youg gunslinger with poise behind him, you ride it out.

    Holy commas!

Hey mods - how about we clean this shit up. Not only is it 3 years old, it's largely inaccurate (for starters- the Bush Push), and it's from a fcuking Ratbirds fan.

I mean for-fcuks-sake Stan, if this Raven fan came in here spouting off this dumb shit about DA, you'd be crying in your beer so hard you'd get a nosebleed.

What does this even have to do with the current topic: which is, why are half of us Gay for Brady's shoes?

Once again, see Joe Flacco's first 6 NFL starts last year. You did nothing here to disprove the basis of my statement.
